Anyone else 5'9" or 5'10" female?

I am having a really hard time with maintaining. I always seem to think that eating above 1500 will make me gain weight. :/

Is anyone else a 5'9" or 5'10" female? How many calories do you maintain on and with what activity level?

I'm in-between 5'9" and 5'10" and I eat anywhere between 1300-1600 calories a day, I do jazzercise 4 or 5 days a week on average (40 min. cardio, 20 min. strength training) and I've been maintaining for a while on that. Outside of exercising I move around at work more than someone with a pure "desk job" I go up and down stairs several times a day and walk around the office/building quite a bit.

I hope that helps, although, I get the impression that it's one of those things you kind of have to find out for yourself what works for you. Even I still struggle with what I need to do for losing versus maintaining.

A hair over 5'8" but if I may chime in... my experience is that with a net under 1600-1700 I lose, over 2200 I gain (slowly both ways) so I try to stay between 1800 and 2100 to maintain. Desk job, 30-45 minutes in the gym 4-5 times a week, maybe a couple of miles walking to and from work if the weather is alright. This is roughly what the calculators predict as well.

Most important I find is to I keep tracking calories so if weight starts to go up I can adjust appropriately.

I maintain on about 1800-2000, eat back calories for exercise.  I'm 5'10".  It isn't an exact science - I might drift upward a few pounds, eat closer to 1800 for a couple weeks, and drift back down.  Being tall gives me a little more room for error.

I'm 5ft9 and around 129lbs. I maintain my weight on 1300-1600 per day. I don't actively go to the gym but I walk a lot and am a fairly mobile person.

I am 5'9.5" 25 year old female and I maintain on 2000 calories. I usually walk for 30 min 4-5 days a week and I use the treadmill for 45 min 2-3 times a week. I started out eating less calories to maintain, but I had to up them and cut out exercise as I kept losing weight. I don't know your age, weight, or activity level, but eating 1500 calories seems way too low to maintain.

wrong post x

Do you think that 1650 is a reasonable amount for me to maintain on? (I am 23 years old, a grad student, and spend most of my time reading/writing papers)

Try this calculator:

It seems to be pretty accurate for most people, and is the most recommended one I come across.

I am 5'9" and maintain on 2300 calories a day! I do go running about 6 days a week and to strength training 3 times a week.. musicismylife: do you exercise? I think 1650 is pretty low really..

Yes. I try to exercise 3-4 times a week. I usually run or go on the eliptical. I burn 400-500 calories each time (I wear a heart rate monitor).

Sarahgall07: How far do you run?

Ok well then 1650 is definitely too low for you! You should really be eating more with that amount of exercise...I'd say start upping calories straight away :) Honestly, when I went up to 2300 I could run so much further and now have so much more energy.

I run about 37 miles per week! I really enjoy it...But I actually think that I may even need to start eating more soon, maybe even 2400/2500!

So do you weigh yourself? Because I really think 1650 would be a losing amount..for me it would be anyway! It is just not enough for such tall girls like us :)

I agree. I know it can be scary to up your calories after you've gone through all that work to lose some weight. But don't worry! If you start gaining you know you can just lower your calories and you'll be fine again. So don't feel guilty - up your calories!
