Okay. So, I've been maintaining for a month now; sometimes I eat too much soup and bloat up for a day (the one you just pour into boiling water from the bag - I don't know the word - anyway, it contains a lot of sodium I suppose :/ ), but I think I got the hang of the whole maintaining thing.
Anyway, today I got this ludicrous craving for chocolate. I ate the entire 100g of milk chocolate and seven of those mini pack Toblerone thingies. Hm hm. I went over for 400 cal.
I'm not freaking out, but I am wondering, is this really bad? I mean, how bad is chocolate? And why. I'm curious. I wouldn't really care if I went over the limit with my usual meals - I eat a lot of vegetables and sometimes overexagerate with fruit - but, but...
I guess I am freaking out a little. :)
Going over 400 cals. is nothing at all to be concerned about. It takes 3500 calories to add an extra pound. I wouldn't worry one bit about your chocolate binge either. Your body is telling you that it was really hungry for that. Milk chocolate is a "waste" food in that you basically are taking in calories that don't help you health-wise. Just the same, if you can keep your chocolate consumption in moderation, eating chocolate occasionally is not going to do you any harm. Binging on it too often could derail your maintenance goals, though.
Just wanted to say that those were not chocolate, but chocolate flavored sugar. Yes I am a chocolate snob!

Thanks for the replys. :) I kind of feel a bit better now. :)
Btw, I KNOW! I was deeply dissapointed it was the only chocolaty thing in the house, but you know what, it served its purpose. :D
oh well yesterday i ate 100g bar of 50% chocolate with hazelnuts, then the day before yesterday i ate a twix bar (58g) and bounty trio (85g).. and i think it happens every day, each day about 100 grams of chocolate, or if i dont get one day, then next day its over 100, i dont know if it is really bad, because for me its moderate, for other people 10grams is what they considere to call "eating moderately", but as a past of being anorexic/bulimic i dont think im going to restrict my eating habits of eating good amount of chocolate every day as long as it sticks to my calorie requirement, since i kinda realize where far it can lead...
If you like dark chocolate (and a lot of milk chocolate lovers don't--although on the Food Thread the chocolate survey showed that people can come to love eating dark chocolate), you might try eating the DC, since some studies suggest DC in moderation can be healthy for us, as opposed to milk chocolate that has no healthy benefits.

Yep, for me 100g is A LOT. Then again as I said I am a chocolate snob, so I eat either bitter sweet or 72% dark chocolate from Trader Joes. It is much more satisfying then twix bars, or other commercial chocolates which have sugar as the first ingredient.

I have even gotten to the point that I like Lindt's 85% cocoa dark chocolate bars. I think, however, that this dark chocolate being healthy for us has a couple of aspects that need close examination. 1) Were the studies actually funded by chocolate companies and 2) DC still should be eaten in moderation. On most times I do eat chocolate in moderation, I eat 1.4 oz (4 squares of a 10 square 3.5 oz dark chocolate bar). (There are those times that I just eat a big wad of milk chocolate and think, hey, it tastes good!)
I love, love, love anything over 72% -- but the Lindt and Ghiradelli 85% is awesome -- and it doesn't take much to satisfy the craving.
I only eat milk chocolate if it enrobes a candy bar that, apparent i MUST have (usually close to TTOM) -- other than that, I can not stand it -- it is just too sweet for me.
I LOVE Côte d'Or. My mum brought the entire palette :D when she came back from Belgium and I am in love ever since.

And don't you just hate those cheap ones you don't even know who made them, it's not even Mars, Inc. or Milka or sth, it's just...blah. :/
Ah, chocolate. What a wondrous subject to contemplate! This summer when we were driving home from a family reunion, we stopped in a Super Wally World. I found a 14.5 oz. Belgium hazel-nut candy bar--and I ate the whole thing by the time we got home. My goodness! I ate more chocolate that trip home than I had for a couple of months previous to that. When I was drinking Imperial Stouts, I found that the strongest-flavored ones often had a taste of espresso coffee mixed with strong, dark chocolate. In any case, there is something excruciatingly pleasant to me when I nibble on some dark chocolate. Speaking of Lindt chocolate, one Christmas one of my daughters gave me a large shoe box full of many varieties of Lindt's chocolate balls. I ate out of that box for weeks! Well, those were the bad, old days--but so much fun.

I agree - Lindt dark chocolate is wonderful. I occasionally eat the Lindt superfine milk chocolate, but I mostly stick to dark. Paying a premium for good chocolate is worth it for fewer ingredients and being satisfied with a smaller portion.
