Coffee/Caffeine-->Bowel Movement-->Super Hungry...Why/Help?!
Hi everyone, I'm wondering if others find that coffee (or maybe it's caffeine in general, such as green tea, energy drinks, etc.) makes them super hungry?
I think it goes like this: coffee/caffeine = stimulates bowels = poop = super hungry!!
Is there a way for me to drink coffee (because I love the taste and the energy boost) without the hunger side-effect?
It happens even when I eat a meal of complex carbs+protein beforehand. Sometimes the big poop won't come until the evening, but when it does, *BAM!*, super hunger follows within an hour or so.
Advice or shared experiences are greatly appreciated. Thanks for indulging me in this (TMI?) topic ;).
HAHAHA THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME!!!! Thought I was the only one! I eat breakfast, leave my house, and like 30 mins to an hour later I have a coffee . . . I didn't feel stuffed after eating bfst, but the coffee makes me feel very full and then BLAMM, I take a large BM 10 or so minutes after THAT and I get hungry again!
I really don' t have any suggestions (because I haven't figured out why it happens to me or how to avoid it. . .) except that it helps if I push my coffee off until right before a snack or lunch, wait for a poop, and then when I'm hungry again it's time to eat :-) I too LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee, but keep it to 1 small a day, otherwise I go from feeling GREAT and very focused to having so much energy that it's too hard to focus, lol!
*side note: did you know that starbucks iced coffee (black w/ nothing in it) has 100 calories of ;sugar!!???!! It's made with a SYRUP (even the unsweetened). I was very angry and saddened to find this out. Will be getting my caffeine fix from Dunkin Donuts from now on :-/*

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....On most days, I drink on average 36-48 ounces of coffee daily. I have never found it affected my pooping or bothered my bowel movements. For some reason I have been blessed with regular BM's even in those years when I drank no coffee.
There are occasional days when I drink no coffee, but will have assorted hot teas such as green, black, chai, etc. I have never noticed tea-drinking affecting my BM's, either.
Best of luck that all comes out well in the end.
Coffee does make me head to the bathroom, but it is not as dramatic as what you're experiencing. Also, I've found since drinking it regularly, it doesn't effect me as much as it did before.
My only advice to you would be to perhaps drink your coffee before you plan on eating to give yourself a chance to have a BM and get hungry, and THEN eat your breakfast. Or maybe you could try other caffeine sources like tea. There are so many different kinds of tea out there, it can be fun to try a different one each morning.
Regular BM is a good thing. Especially if you know how it works for you. And it is MUCH MUCH better then being constipated! I forund that instant cofeee is less BM-stimulating. Try Nestle, Chibo or Jacobs for best taste!
I agree to green tea which can help in my bowel movement, whenever I have constipation, I will drink green tea. Haven't experienced yet drinking coffee then after a few minutes, I will poop, I guess it has different effects to each one of us. Maybe that is one reason why green tea is good for weight loss.
