I like the thread about measurements and I want to see what your idea of the ideal measurements would be for a tall girl...

Thanks

I would love to see this too. I'm also 5'9

Screw what anyone else thinks. I say Whatever looks good on YOU!

There is no such thing as the 'ideal' measurement.  We're all built differently and we have natural limitations on the shapes of our bodies.  You can waste a lot of your life aiming for an 'ideal' shape that is completely unrealistic.

i am 5'9" and 130, measurements waist: 29. and hips: 36. i wish my waist was smaller! for some reason its wide and no matter what i do the measurements stay the same!

but ill have to agree with gi jane, everyones body is different...

According to Lara Croft,who's a 5'9'',they say she's:Bust-36C or D(it used to be D,but now she's a C);Waist:24;Hips:35.Now,i think that's kind of unrealistic,especially for someone that height.So,i say:34-36 B's nice,or a small C;a 25,26 inch waist's nice,hips:36,35.Just what i think.If ya want curvier then :Waist-24,25;Hips-36,37.That's what i think would be ideal....to my mind.lol

I agree with Jane......

And to me a 5'9" person with less than a 28-29 inch waist sounds ridiculous.  You;d have to be pretty thin to be smaller than that in my opinion.

If you actually go and get properly fitted for a bra, a 36 C is actually quite small.  Most women buy smaller cup sizes than they really should be....I'm a 34 D (which is the same cup size as a 36 C) and trust me, my knockers, not big.

Like GI Jane said, it depends on your body proportions.  I'm 5'9" and even at 15, when I was at my skinniest (somewhere between 130 and 140) I can see in the pictures that I still had the same basic pear shape that I do at 175 which is thick thighs and a little bit of stomach under my belly button.  At least my arms are a bit thicker (muscular, not toothpicks) now!  My waist is 33, which is good, and my hips are 42, which needs a little improvement.  The only flab I have left right now is on my belly and thighs.  *sigh* I miss my D cup...I'm down to a 38C now and I think I'm still losing.

Bonnie, your proportions are good.  You're certainly a lot lighter than I ever want to be.  I came out of basic training at 145, and I never want to be that skinny ever again.  155 is the lowest I'd ever aim for and I'm small framed.

Here we go again. I am 5'9" and my measurements are 36-26-36. I am 139lbs. I just wanted to say that i don't strive for these measurements and obviously they are not unrealistic because i have them. I don't go to the gym and go yep, today i will hopefully lose another inch off my waist, hell i don't even go to the gym. I walk about 30min a day and eat 1800 cal on my sedentary days. My body fat % is about 16% so i don't look thin. I am naturally an hourglass shape.

I don'tlook like a barbie doll because my hips balance out my bust. So to everyone that is saying they are ridiculous measurements please remember thats its all about body shape.

Okay I'm 5'9 and I have a 30inch waist and 33-34 inch hips! Basically straight up and down ruler! I find that I have a large frame and that even if I put on a few pounds it means clothes fit really weird and i have to go up a size.

I'm happy with my arms and legs but my waist is killing me! I was watching a tv show that says its bad to have a big waist size, and you should do a waist/hip ratio - and mine comes out and tells me I need to lose weight but when I do the BMI it says I'm fine?

Also does anyone find that you can work out and feel like clothes are fitting better and people are telling you that you've lost weight but the number on the scale doesn't fluctuate that much? And vice versa, when you've indulged too much and the scale doesn't seem that bad but clothes are too tight?

My lowest weight would be about 61kg (134lbs) and highest 64 (140lbs) but depending on the amount of exercise I do, I can look thinner (and people telling me I've lost heaps of weight) and look heavier?

I am 5'8' 1/2'' and my measurements are 36C, 27 waist and 36 hips.  I weigh 140lbs and have a muscular build. People tell me that I am at my perfect weight and shouldn't lose any more or I will look too thin.  I think it really does depend on body type.  Women that have naturally thin builds (not me) or models prob have those meaurements more often than people like me, who are bigger boned.  My body fat is low and I feel pretty proportionate.  I am usually a size 4-6 in jeans and a medium shirt.  I used to be 160lbs and I was a 38D, 30 waist and 40 hips.  I wore a size 8-10 in jeans then.  I feel much better at this weight : )

I am 35 years old and 5' 10".  My measurements are 34C, 25 waist, 34 hips.  I have a small frame and I feel I look in proportion.  I eat about 1800-2000/cal a day and do pilates about 3 times a week.

Well, I'm 5'9" and in the process of losing weight.

The last time I took my measurements they were...

Bust: 38.8

Waist: 29.8

Hips: 38.8

But I want to be around two or three inches smaller than that. And around six inches smaller around my bust (Right now I'm fitting into a DD bra, which frightens me, because I usually wear Cs).

I agree with you on this one. I am 5'9" and I know that a 24-25 inch waist is very unrealistic. When I was at my smallest a few months ago (weighing 128) my waist was 27" and my hips were 37". Now I am between 28-29" and 38-39" in the hips. I now weight 144, though.

Ooh I love this thread!  I'm 5'9 too.  I'm 125 lbs and my measurements are 34-26-36.  I am pretty thin now but eat around 2500 calories per day, but I used to eat very very little and weighed 115, but my waist was 25 inches!  So I agree that the tiny waist sizes are unrealistic...even at dangerously low weights they can just be impossible to achieve.  It's much better to eat more and be a bit bigger :]

I don't know what the "ideal" measurements would be though, usually models have around the same measurements as I do except with 23 or 24 inch waists!!! WTF!!  That is too thin.  I think models can look good in pictures, but in person they'd look kinda scary.

So I guess the ideal measurements, in my opinion, are what your own body naturally settles at while eating a sensible number of calories and being active.

i find this kind of fun.  just goes to show that we're all different.  i'm 5'9" and a 34-25-35.  I'm pretty thin but I maintain around 1800 cals a day.  I used to weight 165 and was a 36-32-40.  I'm definetly so much happier at this size.  Like smelly taco (lovely name..haha) I don't think there are ideal measurements unless you think back to the 'i like big butts' song.  from what i have gathered many professional models are between 5'9" and 6' and their measurements are (so they say) 33-23-34...now this is todays models not the 90s curvier models.

I'm 5'9", weigh approximately 150lbs... and I think my measurements are 37-31-37.  I'm more comfortable being closer to 140 lbs, but I'm okay where I'm at!  I'd like to get in shape more than anything, but I don't feel like I know what I'm doing!  Lol :)

Supposedly, the average height and weight for a supermodel is 5' 10" and 115 pounds, or close to that.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....Now, is that really the way women are suppose to look?  No, of course not.  So why do so many men and even more women buy into that ridiculous thought?  Easy answer:  The media (movies, TV, magazines, advertisements, etc.) have done one heck of a sales job!  And we consumers and body-gawkers have gone along with the myth.

samantha81:  You are right on!  There is nothing wrong with being between 140-150.  If you want to "get in shape," just get on the "Fitness" board and post away with questions.  Or just use Google to find hundreds of great workout regimens and also add "Youtube" to your Google search; and, again, you will find many great videos to help you get started.

Thank you!  I'm trying to get past a mentality that was pushed into me by an ex - and that was everytime a supermodel, celebrity, or fitness guru came on TV he'd ask why I didn't look like them, or why I didn't aspire to look like them.  Oy!

Thankfully my current hubby loves me the way I am, and would prefer that I didn't turn into a stick figure.  He loves my curves ;)...  The getting-in-shape thing is for me!  I'd like to drop a couple of lbs, but mostly I'd just like to have a little more muscle!

I've bought a couple of books, and I'm always reading other peoples ideas, responses and comments.  I definitely appreciate the advice!

I am 5'9'' and 140 pounds. If I weighed 115, I would look like a skeleton!!! It's pathetic what the media describes as the "perfect" body.
