Standing? How many calories does it really burn?
I work as a cashier...so I stand for several hours at a time and lift heavy items at work. I usually don't use the Activity Log but I was curious to see how many calories standing would burn...I was thinking it would be between 150-300 calories for a days work. I worked for about 6 hours today and CC says I burned 810 calories (135/hr)...That seems crazy high just for standing. Is this accurate at all?
Here is an interesting article discussing the possible calories one burns while standing.

I personally think that CC could be correct on your 6-hour standing calorie burn, depending on your weight and activities in which you engage while standing.
Thanks for the links, Shane. Compared to the other sources, I think CC may be overestimating the calories. But I guess it will take experimenting with calories. What sucks is that I stand for so long that I'm exhausted by the time my shift ends and I don't have the energy to go to the gym. I've been working for 3 weeks and havne't really been to the gym. I haven't gained weight, but I've lost some muscle mass :(

I think that makes sense. I do feel you are burning quite a few calories standing and moving about. But it would be nice if you could find a way to get in 30-40 minutes of strength-training 3-4 times a week.
Good luck!
Thanks! I will work it out...just will take some advanced scheduling.
