Switching to maintaining after anorexia

Quote  |  Reply

Hi. I'm 16 years old (girl) and I am at my goal weight after anorexia- 51kgs. I was wondering how do you switch to maintaining? Do I cut back to low fat dairy straight away (from full-fat)? Do I cut out supper since I've been having 3 meals and 3 snacks? I don't want to gain anymore, but I cannot lose either. Please give me some advice.

Eat 3 meals a day but don't let them go over 500 each. You can snack but just don't over do it!!

You are pre-ed weight restored -- you are NOT recovered from your anorexia.  and you should DEFINITELY not follow the advice above.

The minimum for a teen female who needs to lose weight and is sedentary is 1500 -- you do not need to lose weight.

the minimum for a teen female who needs to lose weight and is active is 1800 -- you do not need to lose weight.

according to these medical charts: A 173-cm, 51kg, 16-year-old girl has a body mass index of 17.0, which is at the 7th percentile for age. although being thin could be perfectly normal for this girl, she could potentially be at risk of being underweight, particularly if she has recently lost weight or has stopped gaining weight. A healthy weight range for this girl would be from 54kg to 74kg

Given that you haven been diagnosed with anorexia, we can safely assume that you continue to be underweight, and should be eating at gaining levels -- not a mythical maintenance level.
