I haven't lost any weight for about a month, and I've been really discouraged. I even thought about giving up (really, who hasn't, though?).

Finally today, I got around to measuring myself, and I found I'd lost 4 inches on my thighs!! Whoo hoo!!! :D XD XD XD

I just wanted to share that. ^^ Cause I think its awesome!

And I really shouldnt be obsessed with the number on the scale.

Anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

I keep forgetting to measure myself.  Today the scale said I gained like 2 pounds and I started to feel cruddy...until I put my pants on and they were big.  Which reminded me of why I hate the scale.

Keep up the good work!

:o)

That's amazing!! How often do you measure yourself? You should be so proud, I think you raise a very important point :)

Congrats! That's very exciting!

I'm a big believer in measuring too.  Weight fluctuates soooo much that it's rarely a true indication of your progress (especially for us ladies!).  Congratulations, and keep up the good work :)

I can TOTALLY relate! I've been stuck on the same number on the scale for awhile now and it gets so frustrating sometimes! But as long as the inches keep coming off I know I'm doing good cause it just means I'm replacing the fat with lean muscle mass :) 4 inches off your thighs is AMAZING! Congrats! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks, guys! :D One of the best things about CC is everyone's so supportive on here! ^^

Thats a fab achievement!  I haven't lost inches on my thighs, but when I started my left was slightly smaller than the right, obviously cos its my weaker side. Now after 4 weeks, they are the same size, so I know i've gained muscle!

Another good one is when you can fasten your bra one clip tighter :)

Measurements>>>>weight scales. As I told someone else, goal weights are something of a misnomer. It's never really about a weight as it is a reduction in fat.

Also, everyone has a different body type: throw out the solo-flex commercials and the guy or girl who says "you can look just like me..." Fact is, not everyone can.

Everyone wants to be slimmer because of societal and media pressure, but in reality the ultimate goal should be to live a healthier, more productive lifestyle.

That said, keep in mind that (especially for women) even measurements will fluctuate. Once every week or two weeks is really ideal, and the best indicators of how you are doing are how your clothes fit and how your energy level is compared when you were at your very worst weight.

Unless you get up every morning and write your weight on your forehead, people have no idea how much you weigh.  They do see how your clothes fit, your posture, muscle tone, etc.

Four inches off your thighs is awesome!!!!

I am so glad I read this because I am having the same problem. To find out it's so common is reassuring. I dropped a size 2 months ago but have not lost weight since, yet I notice I have dropped another size. How is that possible?

Yeah! Absolutely, I haven't lost pounds lately but I lost my above waist roll and my belly is flatter! And my pants fit better, I fit into a size 10 last week.

Me 2!  I have been hittin the GYM hard and kept scaling myself and I gained eight pounds.  The scale is the worse way to measure results.  Great job on gettin fit!

I really needed to read this today.  It is so easy to get discouraged when you are working hard and the scale isn't moving. I tried reducing my calories a bit and that hasn't worked.  I need to just keep on keeping on. Thanks for sharing everyone.

I also really needed to read this also!! I had amazing deficits and went to the gym everyday last week and yet I lost nothing when I was supposed to lose 2 pounds. Hopefully I will see it soon like you did!
Good job on the inches lost!

Don't give up! The scale will move again. I didn't lose any weight for over 4 MONTHS but continued to have body changes going to the gym 3-4 times per week. You can do this!!!!

Absolutely- working as a personal trainer and doing assesments , in addition to my own personal experience really proved this. Here is how-

Say there are 2 women. Both are 5'6, and weight is 130 for each. They are same age- even nationality. They appear very different, one wears a size 3/5, one 8/9. Why? The one who is a 5/6- body fat percentage, distribution, muscularity is leaner. WEIGHT has not much to do with body composition, the real determanent in this equasion!

I was a figure/ bb competitor. I am 5'5-'5'6. When I was 15 I was actually taller, and at 150 heavy, gut, size 10. At 33, 150, on stage, a size 5 and 7-8 percent body fat!!!

Take your measurements- and health status- FIRST. THAT will be the real factor in positive advances :)

Hi, so i have been working out for a month too and the scalw is playing mind games with me so i just feel so discouraged and i feel like im getting nowheres.. But reading this, maybe i should measure myself instead of obsessing over the stupid scale :) which i hate lol.

I weighed myself multiple times today, I have fluctuated between lowest 163.6 to highest 169.8.  All on the same day!!!  Over a 6lb fluctuation, crazy.

The lowest was just after getting home from my workout, 1 hour on a weight routine, 30 laps swimming, and a 5km run, and highest just now after big lunch earlier, and dinner, plus lots of water, and no bathroom for a while.

I have not really figured out how to do measurements, the only one I think I am doing right is waist, and unfortunately I did not do it when I started at 193lbs, so who knows what it was then.  But in the last month I seem to have lost half and inch around my waist.

Don't know where I could go to have the whole calipers thing done.

You could get your body fat done at a health club/ gym or probably a local college- just make sure if it is at a gym it is with a real experienced trainer or metabolic specialist. Where do you live and what gyms are near?

there is a trainer at the community centre weight room where I go, I feel a bit funny asking about this, but might as well find out if it is possible.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
