Anybody wanna have a "Women over 40" forum or group????
Anyway, I think there are issues like slower metabolism due to age, and then there are the good ole issues like hormone replacement therapy, maybe post-hysterectomy, and hey.....what about the belly problems due to having that bikini cut for c-sections or female surgery so many times your muscles are now like hamburger meat? Then things like medications we may take that make losing weight a little more difficult.......blood pressure meds, anti-depressants, things like that?
There are quite a few other things that I can think of that, luckily for them, just probably don't apply yet to the younger women.
Anybody wanna form a little 'ole over 40 forum or club????
Mary I know we must be in for it now this weekend the weather channel is stationed here for the snow storm that will start today. Cute four legged kids! Looks like the cats are saying lady this is our spot no we will not move.
Puppykisses hope you make it to & from your destinations safely.
Meena glad your back is better! You will be out of the 180's soon.
Blueyed congrats on the 4 lbs.
Get well soon Djmommy
Nancy are you sure you are not Heloise? LOL
Ann I have gone to the store and got stocked up for the weekend so I can hide in the house till I have to dig out. We should see a foot of snow with blowing & drifting.
Pattikins that cake sounds yummy!![]()
Chris try to relax. My prayers are out there for you.
Everyone have a great day!
Bonna

I think i left you a note i your inbox...i'm not sure exactly where i shoud post so theres probably doubles...sorry..hey i have to fast today i finally got into the chocolates last night and the nuts...almonds, walnuts etc....man oh man i ate about 900 calories worth....so now if i want to get or stay on track i have to fast today and put off weighing for a couple days.
Hope the rest of your family is good...bye 4 now..Nancy
p.s. buzz me IM later, i'll be home!!
Ann: Grey Eyelashes?? I didn't know that would happen. I have some grey eyebrow hairs and lots of grey head hairs but my dad says your not really old until you have grey hairs "down under..and I don't mean Australia
" I think the chocolate thing is sooo weird. Why would that happen so suddenly? There must be some sort of body chemistry explanation...I don't know what it could be. The more broccoli you eat the less you like Chocolate. I could drink a shandy but I never do. I'm not too good with the self control. I was thinking about quitting smoking and went 3 days and then yesterday I had a few beers and smoked like a chimney. This would good be good place for an emoticon with an oxygen mask and a kidney transplant scar.
Jasmine. I don't envy you all that snow. I hate snow. I'm not looking forward to living in West Virginia. I'm thinking there is gonna be a lot of snow there.
FastMary: Maybe we both gained a pound to keep the earth balanced. What will happen when I come back to the northern hemisphere? Will the earth fall off its axis? Geepers, that would really ruin my day...![]()
Pattykins: Don't let falling off the wagon get you down, I'm always falling off one wagon or another. Pick yourself up and start again..."after all tomorrows another day.."
Chris: I hope your daughters situation resolves itself in a positive way. I'm sending good thoughts your way.
Hi eveyone else. I'm gonna have a look at everyones picture galleries this weekend. Maybe I throw on a few of my own.
It started off with my brother-in-law and his family up and moving, but conveniently leaving their dog behind. Very nonchalant about the whole thing, figuring if they left the gates open she'd find a new home. So I ended up going out and "adopting" her and then putting her down because she can easily turn on people and with all the other dog attacks we've had around here... I was NOT going to put people or other animals in danger at any point in time. It was very sad for me, because my hubby and I have always been the ones to take care of her when they would go off for a week. They are Ministers... so it was very disappointing the way they (1) left their pet and (2) left the condition of their house. I've come to expect more of them, since God's Word says "To whom more is given, more is expected". They've been given a lot position-wise at their church... and to do some of the things they've done is really sad. But... have to forgive, so I'm working on it!!
In the meantime... here's to you, Lady... You were a good FRIEND.
Secondly was the passing of a local Realtor. We met him at the Trinity Fellowship Healing Room in March of 2005. I would take my son there every Monday night for prayer during the months prior to his brain surgery on March 30, 2005. One of those nights, we met Mike. He had just found out he had cancer. His wife and daughter were having a very hard time and I knew how they felt. Mike was doing really well, he said... he was kinda in shock. I saw him at an open house for the real estate company he worked for, several months after that Monday night introduction and he looked really good. We were all praying and pulling for him, but it just wasn't meant to be I guess. We received our miracle during this lifetime here on earth when our son underwent his "Miracle Brain Surgery" in Phoenix, AZ. Mike received his in Heaven. His smile and his bravery will be missed. I am honored to have met him.
Here's to you, Mike... I'm honored to have called you FRIEND.
Ro, so sorry for your losses. Will keep you in my thoughts.
Pat
Check this out!!
Jogged at 3.4mph for 25 minutes of my 45 minute Zebra Walker Workout (or ZWW as I will now call it LOL).
TOASTED a fat-laden 378 calories while doing it.
Revins: Wow congrats on the run.....
Jasmine; we are getting hit big time with the snow. I must say I LOVE IT... We never get it and if we do not like this. I have been outside hanging with the boys. I even built a fort last night with my little one. Of course I would hate it if we got this all the time but once in a while is wonderful:) I think we have 12 inches and more to come......
I did not have to go in...WHA HOO> I am so happy. I am so sick og that DRIVE to MIchigan. I am going to miss the shower....I forgot who posted a "real shower" for my nephew wife. I laughed so hard. I forgot there are people on this from out of the country and we all do things differently. I guess I should have explained it better. Yes that would be silly to drive to shower someone...I am still laughing....
I feel better but when my meds where off I feel tird again. But I have not worked out in 4 days. I am feeling fine about it.
Explain this please. I have lost weight. I have noticed when I do not workout I drop my weight. I understand that muscle weighs more but I also believe that maybe I am not eating as much. Usually I am so hungry all day long. (When I workout.) I know I have not been feeling great but I have been eating. Does anyone do protein shakes??? I am thinking about going that route. My trainer had suggested that, but I really do not have the extra cash for that. Anyway, my dh told me today to go ahead and buy some. After working out I am so hungry all day. I do try to eat high fiber and protein but nothing cuts it. I feel that I crave carbs more???? I just want to continue losing this weight. I have 1 more pd to be under 200. I have been exercising religiously since Sept. I could not ,have not ,seen that # in a long time. So any help would be great.
Well that is all. I am going to go outside to play again......;) I may stop in again... Have a wonderful day....Hello to everyone...Barb
Got to play my weekly tennis game today, it's definitely a highlight for me.
Down about .4 from last week, but that's ok, at least it's going down. I had a couple of bad eating days this week, plus cake, etc. (the cake turned out quite tasty, if I do say so).
When I think about it,though, my current "bad" eating days would probably have been "good" eating days a few months ago. Everything is relative, right?
Yesterday was "Women's Day" in Italy. The convention is that women of all ages receive mimosa flowers (I got an entire tree branch from our neighbor!) and well-wishes, and then gals get together and go out to eat dinner, all dressed up, naturally. Then a percentage of these women top it off with an night out for a male strip-tease. Which must certainly be as unsavory in this country as it is in the US. I celebrated, instead, with a double portion of mimosa cake, which is moist yellow cake with pineapple, light custard and a heavy layer of real whipped cream, topped with crumbled cake which resembles mimosa flowers. Happy Women's Day to us 40+'s!
Good morning all
meena I like your thoughts on why I've lost the taste for chocolate
and yes it would appear that eyelashes do go grey I've done an eyelash tint on them so it now looks like I have mascara on all the time, I've also been checking down under
.
Pat 4lbs is great and just proves that can eat "bad foods?" in moderation and still lose.
nancy67 & djmom... this is what I was told so take from it what you will. I have the same problem on the days I am at work I lose nothing if I'm going to lose it's on my days off that it happens (my work is quite physical) this isn't down to retention but down to not eating enough on those days of work. You definitely need carbs, as they are what your body should be getting most of it's energy from "your expendable energy" if you are not supplying it with enough of this kind of energy then it won't let go of it. So if you are on a low carb diet then on your days of exercise your body is having to draw too much energy from muscle (protein) which isn't as expendable, because it doesn't have enough expendable to let go of so it hangs on to it, it's not until your non active days that your body will risk allowing some of it's store to burn off (carb). The fact that you say you are hungry all day and crave carbs when you exercise is proof of this, a marathon runner will increase their carb intake the day of the race. Sorry to say that here in UK it has been proved that low carb weight loss is not sustainable long term, you are more likely to regain because your body will really start to crave it. For me I need on a non active day 242.2g carbs 63.9g fat, 96.9g protein per day as you will see from that the carb (expendable energy) intake is huge compared to protein. Hope this helps a little.
Ann
My PIA MIL is coming to my house today. She got herself in a car accident (plywood flew off a truck in front of her and hit her car). Instead of having the work done at the dealer near her, she decided to bring it up to the dealer near us (wha????) and spend 4 days here until it’s ready. Bleah! Wish me luck! I truly should get the inheritance outright in my name, I spend more time taking care of her than DH and his sister combined. By like a factor of 10. What did I do to deserve this??
Jasmine and Barb: How’d you do with the snow? We did get a lot of heavy rain, not too much flooding, though. I prefer snow, even in March.
Bonna: ^^^^^^More prayers^^^^^^
Ann: No grey eyelashes yet, just hair, covered in hair color though.
Meena: Haha, throwing the earth off it’s axis! ROFLMAO! Thanks!
Ro: So sorry you had to put the dog down, I think it was the right decision, though. I had to put a couple of cats down over the last 2 years (my lovey, Fred, back in August at age 15). It’s really hard.
Barb: Glad you got out of the shower! I have touchy in-laws, too, they’re always coming up with SOME drama.
Pat: Great perspective on “bad” eating days!
Nancy67: My theory on why we occasionally lose weight when we don’t exercise and eat “badly” for a day or two is that your body needs extra calories to burn extra calories sometimes. Of course, if we overdo it, it backfires. Happy Women’s Day!
Ann: Better explanation than mine. Heehee! I’ve tried the low carb thing and it didn’t last for me. I sometimes will do it for a day if I’m feeling really hungry and want my food to “hold me” longer.
Later!
Mary
Hi everyone...well i finished that container of chocolates so back to my diet now. Got it out of my system.....today i'm going eat some haddock and garlic bread with cheese...and be a good girl.
It's nice and sunny today the snow loks real pretty all 200feet of it..lol
Actually this storm dumped quite a few inches but i certainly have seen worse....maybe in others areas they had more of a blizzard...i don't know
Haven't much to say...i've just finished riding my bike..and the endorphines are kicking in....yea
Could someone please answer my question in my jounal about age restrictions...is there a point when no matter what we do we can't get any better..please read my last entry it will explain i could sure use an answer????
bye to all have a nice Sunday..church or outside activities....skiing, tobogganing etc......Nancy
Nancy67, happy Women's Day! that cake sounds great!
NancyC, my BIL lives in Maine & said the snow is piled up over his head. It's like driving through trenches around there, apparently. Wild!
We're having a beautiful sunny day today, but had crazy wind yesterday. trees blew down all over the place. Thankfully, not in our yard. We have lots of trees!
Ann, unfortunately, it was not 4lbs, but 4 tenths of a pound. I agree about the low carb not working for long. Been there, done that, gained it all back!
oopsy...sorry Pat missed the . but hay you still lost something
so that's good. I may have gone off chocolate but your talk of that lovely cake put me in the mood so not a good day for me today but a very tasty one
. Why does the things we really shouldn't eat always taste so much better than the healthy option?
Mary.. good luck with your visitor, if you were suspicious you would think that it was somehow deliberate?
Yeah have grey on head also but it's just a Marlyn streak, believe it or not I was actually creamy blond when I was young and had a white streak running from my temple back and that's where the grey has come in.
Nancy56..I'm going to read your last journal entry again, I couldn't find anything about age restriction, will get back to you.
Have a good one Ann
Hi All,
~My heart goes out to those of you that are experiencing trauma in your lives right now. You are in my thoughts and prayers. ~
Ann ~ had a good chuckle about the dreaded gray eye lash...hee,hee
. I got my first down under, the day I turned 30! I swear to you, it was on that day!! I was horrified. I also got my first pimple on that day too ~ yes, I was one of "those" girls who had perfect skin thru the teens, much to the dismay of my siblings, who both carry scars of their teen years to this day. Mind you there is a 10 yr & a 12 yr age gap between us, and they constantly told me I was adopted, so I don't feel too bad for them!:-) I have 50% silver hair and 50% black, and so wish I had the courage to let it go natural instead of dying it every 6 weeks...but as of yet the courage is absent. sigh.![]()
Started work on Wed. People are great..job is so, so but a foot in the door..so all is good. Walk from the train station UPHILL & back down, plus lotsa walking in the day. Have been brown baggin a healthy lunch, and have been too tired at night to snack. All in all, I should have LOST...but no, I gained 3lbs! Seriously, I just don't want to play no more!!
It had better be muscle, thats all I can say!!:-)
Have a good week everyone, and good thoughts to those going thru stressful times!
xoxo Al.
Al, Hang in there....Small changes will work give it time...You sound like you are doing well. Do not crash.. Keep it up. Packing is great. You wait it will pay off.
Pattikins..Hope your trees are all standing. You got ythe wind we got the snow.
Nancy...How fun to celebrate women. Oh how I would love to do that yearly. I would not go to the strip joint. Did that once when I was in my early 20s. Whoo an experience that was....Just not my thing. Those girls are really crazy for those dancing men...
Ann...Grey eyelashe...Not yet but everywhere else. I am lucky I only need to highlight my hair. Although, it seems to be happening more frequently.. I will be the one who dyes her hair for sure. Just as long as I do not have BLUE hair like I remember seeing older ladies with when I was young...WHY BLUE???? Good luck with the inlaws.....Hey I really do not know what to jtell yah,,,I seem to have my own problems on this side.HAHAHA..Just kidding. Hang in there it will go by fast....
Nancy I will try to read your journal when I am free. As long as my boys leave me alone.
Well ,Today I feel like crap. Last night it hit me hard. I just felt awful. All day long I felt fine. I rearranged my frontroom. rehung some pictures, dusted played outside. Than at night bam in bed major draining, cough....Stayed in bed today until @1:00 dh gave me breakfast and lunch in bed. I feel better now but weak. I am sure I will not work out tom.
We had 20 inches of snow. No school tom. Boys are so happy. I have no idea why they do not have snow unless it is the back roads. The main ones are fine.
Better go , hello to everyone.
I went to WalMart today and bought "Walking Away The Pounds" DVD. It came with these round blue things that are weights that you fill with water (actually, they looked like what the Plastic Surgeon I used to work for would install to make bustlines bigger LOL!!!!). Anyway......... will try it out tomorrow!!!
Bonna hope things are going better for you.
Ann no grey eyelashes here. Never even thought about that happening.
Pattikins glad you enjoyed your tennis. The most we can do is build snow forts here.
Mary we had 20" of snow here. Plowed & shoveled all day yesterday. I have elderly neighbors that I did out. What a work out. Have fun with your MIL.
Nancy hope the chocolate was good. I eat jello sugar free chocolate pudding that hits the spot for me.
I am down to 182! Still losing slowly but hey it is the right direction.
Count me in! I'm both new to the site and 40 and three quarters. I too am experiencing a change in my body. Just five years ago I was able to go to the gym and eat healthy and presto, bango, the weight would melt off.....then, hello 40!
There are strange things going on with my body and I think I am peri-menopausal...hell sometimes I think I'm in the midst of a total menopausal episode! The night sweats, the mood swings, crying for nothing at the drop of a hat...I feel I have lost total control of my emotions...which then leads me to the fridge...I'm an emotional eater!
So yes please, please, please count me in!!!
