Dressing your success, after losing 10-30+. Do you still hide your shape? Or are you a show off.

Hello,

After losing a lot of weight- I find myself talking about clothes, and shopping for clothes a lot more. I use to love shopping before the weight loss, but I never would go in the dressing room and try anything on. Now! I go in, and I try it on, and I pop out to show my real friends who are very supportive. I haven't done that in years, and it feels great.. To not hide my shape with fashion, but to show it off using fashion. I love it... Before I would have not shown off my clothes, and how they fit to anyone. I would take them home, and give them a try.. If they fit they fit, and if they didn't.. I would toss the item in the bag in the far back of the closet. Now! I'm trying it on, and showing it off. :)

Congratulations on losing the weight! I'm glad you're showing it off. It took me a *long* time to stop buying clothes that were too big for me (because I felt a little safer in them, I think). But I think, yeah, I'm showing it off a little... :)

I think everyone should do the same, regardless of whether they've lost weight or not.  Clothes make a big difference to how you look.  Anyone can look fantastic in the right clothing.

Big mistake I made when I was very overweight was to think that clothes & fashion weren't for me.  I wasted a lot of my life wearing baggy black things, hoping they hid the lumps and bumps.  And they didn't, of course.  I just ended up looking even more shapeless!

So I'd say to people... 'don't wait until you've lost weight to dress great'.... get out there and look the best you can now.

I'm a big fan of confidence.  It sounds like you've got a new kind.  Have fun with it!

Thanks to you all.

gi-jane, I've always had my fun with the fashion, I just would not show it off in a dressing room after one bad time. But I shopped my butt off before I lost the weight, and before I started paying 2.79 for gas, and now topping out at 3.56 for gas at the pump. Fashion was the tool I used to keep those eyes off my weight here and there.. Like those questions.. Where did you get that from? That would enlarge my head, and put the conv in my zone of fashion, and not in the zone of how much weight have you gain. Never hearing.. That's all wrong for you from my girl friends. Just hearing my daddy telling me one day when I said to my parents.. How do I look, and he said like a beach whale. Hurtful words from the old man, and you need one of those long mirrors.. I didn't go out that night. I just stayed home and I cried. Now! I can't be stopped.. I hear, and I had heard it before you look nice, but when my father said what he had to say.. It made me question all the other times I would dress up and go out what people really thought of me, and about me.. Not about my clothes, but the question was.. Did I really look bad in this? Now after losing the weight. I never looked bad in anything I had worn. I just felt bad because of what people was thinking, and you are right. We need to have good fashion with the body types we have now.

I still have issues with my body image..I have lost weight, and I still wear big clothes..I will by clothes that fit, and I don't wear them..I still put on my huge shirts, and baggy pants..My husband threatens me all the time that he is going to throw my bigger clothes away, because he is tired of me hiding my body..I hope one day to be able to show off what I have accomplished! I wish you the best, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! I love seeing confident people!

I still hide my shape a little (I still have a tummy) but I dress a lot better than I did when I was bigger.  I just bought some clothes from Land's End because they have tall sizes, and my old confidence is starting to return.  I was really into fashion in university.  I still am, but I'm a little afraid to dress that way, but now that I'm back down into regular sizes it's a lot easier.

I actually went through my closet and drawers and am FINALLY going to get rid of all the shorts and skirts that are too big. I hate to do that - I really like some of those things. I'm nervous to get rid of the stuff, though, 'cause I keep thinking I'll gain the weight back - I've always kind of yo-yo'd. But a good friend of mine gave me good advice - GET RID OF THE TOO BIG CLOTHES! That way I won't even give myself an option of gaining weight - if the smaller clothes start feeling tight, it's time to watch what I eat again. The main problem right now is money... I really don't have the money to buy any clothes right now!

I still have a bunch to lose, but I am showing off what I can  Laughing

Well, I took in one of my long skirts that I really liked.. You can take them to a shop that does alterations. The skirts that is. A friend told me that too. I was talking about how I didn't have room for the first set of new clothes I had gotten, and she said.. Go through them, and what you don't want give them to me, and what you want the most take and have them altered. Just don't go out and by bigger sizes when you clothes are getting to tight again. When you feel you are a little to tight, or have to suck in to zip up those great pair of skinny jeans then you know it's time to go on a diet.. Kick up the turbo on your Metabolism, and go for what you know.. Losing weight, and keeping it off.

I wish you the best of luck, and you can always reward yourself with mini buys here and there.. Sale's.... I like to go to Ross, Marshall's,T.J.Max's, Rue21, and It's Fashion, and many more stores. The first place I head to is the sales racks.

Good Luck..

Over the last two years I've gone from a 16/XL to a 6 (s/m).  To me there is nothing I hate more than wearing clothes that don't fit, so I did buy new clothes at each size..but not very many things, and not high quality expensive things.  Shirts were easy, since they fit over a broader range, and I usually just had one pair of jeans in each size, and I'd always be wearing a range of sizes, gradually phasing out what was too big, breaking in what was a little snug.

On another note, I recently went bridesmaids dress shopping with my very slim and petite friends...and it was fun!  I am definitely the largest (although not the tallest) out of the bunch of us, especially in the bust.  I was nervous that the sample dresses would be too small, and I'd have to leave them open in the back or whatever, but they even had to pin them for me!  At my former size 16, the dresses would all have been too small.
