Hello, I have been on CC for about 2 and a half years. I've gone up and down on weight, even finally reaching my goal in May! But I have lost track of myself since then, and I want to get back on track TODAY. I've been part of lots of groups and they start out great but then people eventually stop showing up. I know I need more consistent and frequent motivation than that, so for THIS group, I want to check in EVERY DAY. That means a daily weigh in and update on how we're doing, highs and lows, etc. I'm sure there are at least one or two others out there who could use this kind of structure. Can't wait to meet you!

Monday July 12th-- 142.6 lbs

Where I'm at: After finally FINALLY reaching my goal of 135 in late May, I have really been slacking in every sense so it's no wonder I put 7.6 lbs back on. I know some of it will be water weight cause I've been eating a lot of processed food and not drinking enough water, so hopefully I can drop a few of those pounds fast.

The plan: Today I am going to drink TONS of water and eat only whole foods. Also going to take both dogs on nice long walks and hit the 4 pm weight lifting class which I love. I want to continue this plan through the week... going camping Sunday-Wednesday so I need to lock these new habits in before I'm in the woods with nothing to do but eat and nap.

I am stepping out of this group for now, I'm going to try to not do the scale for a month. Right now I'm getting frustrated, as I am exercising and eating good, and everyday gaining .5-1 pound.....Good luck everyone and I'll see you around!

What I've been doing for years...keep at it - don't ever give up.  The weight doesn't always drop as quickly as we'd like but it will eventually.  The one thing this "journey" has taught me is patience.

You know what needs to be done - just keep doing it.  Eat healthily and exercise - it's good for you - and the weight loss will follow.  Hang in there ; )

You're right - weighing everyday can be discouraging.  It's not bad if you ignore the peaks and valleys - but that can be hard sometimes.

Do what works for you.  Good luck!  See you in a month.

 I know nothing about you (ie stats, goals, deficit), but i can tell you that when i have a plateau issue i find that eating at maintenance for a while helps. it seems to let my body know that there is not a famine going on and that it's ok to let go of some more weight. and honestly as my goal weight gets closer i seem to need to do this more often. i'm hoping that with all this practice at maintaining that it will be easier to transition into full time maintenance once the weight is down again.  :o)

There is no way I am telling my weight today! I hate this!...more so because I wanted to be at a low weight for runyourlifes 12 in 12 challenge! Cry No fair!

@target - sorry it's a rough day today. why do you need to be at a particular weight for a challenge?

today's weight - 171.0

i feel like i'm finally done with the holiday weight now i can start working on the rest of it. 

I wanted to be lower than my starting weight so that I could show a weight loss for this week instead now I'll have to show a gain! It's not fair, especially since I know it's just a fluctuation and will go away in a few days...Cry

target, don't be upset - we've all been there and, yes, it is frustrating.  Focus on the overall trend rather than the spike - it could be due to anything.  Just pretend it never happened and keep doing the right things - it'll level out ; )

 i can understand that. i use to shy away from challenges that had weigh in days on the weekend or mondays, since that's the hardest time for me to stay focused on good eating habits, but lately i've decided to bit the bullet and hope that the prospect of the challenge with help keep me focused. fluctuation can be a real pain, just remember you know what it is and that's what really matters.

@target - that's not true. you do know how that happened. you've been working on it. you just expected to see it as a gradual loss. take what you can get i always say.  :o) congratz

today's weight: 171

just like yesterday,but i'm pleased because we actually ate out last night and while i made (mostly) good choices, i really expected to be up a bit. now to conquer the weekend!

I'm new and need something to motivate me.

I started exercising seriously about 6 months ago when I stepped on the scale and saw my weight as 223. I was appalled. I have never been that heavy in my life. I knew I had gained a few pounds but a few was actually about 50. Back in 2008, I weighed 187. After crying for an hour, I decided to start eating right and working out. No more crash diets, starving myself, and being obsessed with the scale. As of today, I am

5'6 196.5 pounds.

22 pound lost in 6 months

And now I have been stuck since November. I work out like crazy but my scale barely moves. I exercise 5-6 days per week, sometimes twice in 1 day and consume between 12-calories. I do cardio 3-4 days per week and strength train with a licenced trainer at a gym 2 days per week. My cardio consists of walking/running on the treadmill, elliptical, and an occasional dance or step class. I watch what I eat but do consume a little too much carbohydrates, usually between 100 to 150. I have an occasional day where I eat what I want for 1 meal but I only do this about once every 2 weeks. I drink plenty of water. at this point, I am very frustrated. I weigh myself every day and I'm starting to hate the scale.

I work out very hard and I don't understand why my scale is not moving. What am I doing wrong?

by this ^ do you mean your calorie intake is always in the 1200s? even without knowing all your stats (age and sex) i'm pretty comfortable saying that you are not eating enough. i know it sounds counter intuitive, but your body needs a minimum amount of fuel just to survive.

i used the calorie target tool (using 140# as goal) and guessed that you might be a 30 year old female and it says you should eat 1770. that may seem like a lot to you now, but keep in mind that as you lose weight your stats change and this number comes down.

also i'm a BIG proponent of listening to your body. i just do not do well below 1500 cals, so although it means a slower weight loss i do my best to keep it at least around that number. and even when you find a number that works for you i find that every now and again my body seems to get acclimated to the low calories and i plateau. what i do then is to eat at maintenance level for a while (time varies depending on how i feel).

I am 32. I try to stay between 1200 and 1400 calories per day which I know is less than the recommended amount. What scares me is that when I increase my calories to 1400-1500 per day, I start gaining weight so I freak out and decrease it. It's a vicious cycle. I will work on eating more of the right foods. Thanks for the advice.

147 again today. I am pretty much in maintainece mode. After a 10.5 lb gain over the holidays, I am now hovering between 4-5 lbs up from my pre-Christmas low of 142. I want to hit the 130's!

Last night I ate potato chips. Bad. But the rest of the day was ok. Today we are having turkey dinner w lots of veggies, but also with dessert, of which I intend to have a peice. Apple crisp! With a small scoop of vanilla ice cream! Maybe I can convince hubby to come for a walk to the gym w me tonight after everyone leaves, you think? I'll be off to the gym for 5:45 am combat class tomorrow. :o)

Im at 183 today. Don't know why my weight spiked up but I'm eating within my limit, drinking lots of water and doing my regular workout so hopefully things should level out soon.

@beau: Hey, welcome to the group! 22lbs in 6 months is an amazing feat... congratulations! You stats sounds almost identical to mine....I'm 30, 5' 6" and currently at 183. From what I have read in some of the forums, the best way to break a plateau is to eat at maintence for a couple of weeks or so. Why don't you try it?

Hi all, weight today is 147.6, I'm happy with it, I think it's going to start balancing out now though.  The first few weeks of dieting are ending so I'm ready to start the plateauing..I've read tonnes on it so hopefully it all helps.

 

@target and beau:  I've been reading up on plateauing, and I've read that the best ways of breaking a plateau is to change your exercise and your calorie allowance.  So if you're cross training everday, switch to spin or running or dancing.  And if your allowance is 1500kcals switch it to 1600 and then 1400, so you're body cannot get used to a specific amount.  I'm going to start trying it, but I thought it may work for you as well :)
