So my weight loss has been fairly steady and successful thus far, though I don't see it as much (myself) in the mirror as I do in the numbers on the scale.

On Thursday I made an impromptu stop at the mall, and ended up discovering that a size 14 pants fit me *beautifully* (actually some room to spare!).  When my husband came home from work Thursday night, I happily showed him my new outfit.  He complimented me, and told me how proud he was of what I've accomplished.  Awww Kiss

He then totally confused me by walking over to the 44lb bag of dog food we'd just opened (we have a mastiff), picking it up, and putting it in my arms.  I'm standing there in the kitchen wondering what form of insanity has come over him....and he says, "That's how much weight you've lost."

Well son of a gun it sure is - to the pound!  I can't believe how heavy that bag was, and that I was carrying THAT much extra weight around on my body!  Yikes!!  I keep picturing myself walking around with that WHOLE bag of dog food strapped to my back.  Surprised

Anyone else have a moment when your weight loss suddenly surprised you or was illustrated in an eye-opening way?

Edit: I posted a pic in my gallery of me holding the bag of dog food.  Laughing

Well this was a couple months ago but I had lost 30 pounds so I picked up that weight in sugar at the store and said, "Look mom, i lost 6 bags of sugar!" Even though I couldn't feel the weight off, I could feel different, more outgoing, more confident. As long as I feel good, I'm okay with that. And by the way, THAT'S A HUGE BAG OF DOG FOOD!!

We have single dumbbells in the Emergency Room where I work mainly used when we have a patient with a dislocated shoulder - helps us pop it back into place by having them lay on their belly and hang their arm off the bed with weight in hand.

Anyway, we have a 15, 20 and 25 pound dumbbells. Today at work I was curling the 25 pound weight with one arm. It hit me then that that was the amount I've actually lost so far.

Tongue out Thank God it's gone!

That is so awesome, what a wonderful supporter! And congrats on your success -  my boxer himself actually weighs about that, ha!  I can imagine looking at him and thinking "I lost a whole dog!" (:

Our tap-water tastes terrible so we have a water-cooler for drinking water that takes those blue plastic 5-gallon containers.  Once when I was lugging two of those out to the car (one by one, they weigh 40 pounds each) it occurred to me that I'd lost just about exactly that much weight at the time, 80 lbs.

I can manhandle one of those things around okay, but I spent YEARS lugging around the fat-weight of two of them (almost 2 and a half now)?  I don't know how I ever got out of bed in the morning back then, and I can only imagine the strain it was putting on my heart and my joints.

That is a neat illustration of how to tell that one has lost weight.  That is also a great photo.  Best of luck to you and all the others who have made significant, healthy weight losses.

Congratulations on the loss~!  Just think, all that money you save on your food, you can get another Mastiff Laughing

We have an English Mastiff and we just adore her!  They are the BEST for kids!

LOL sjenn, if I was saving any money on food I think I'd put it toward a facelift.....for the dog!  He's got a great personality, but oh the slobber!!  He's about 145lbs and has huge droopy jowls.  When I get to my goal weight, I'll only be about 15lbs more than him!!

Everyone: it's so neat to read other people's weight-loss-accomplishment "eureka" moments!!  Also thanks for the congrats/kind words - this site is great for support/camaraderie!!

I love the picture too - good job!  You look fantastic.

I was carrying my son a few weeks ago and complained how heavy he is getting - 42lbs - which was the weight I had managed to lose.

I now get a kick over comparing loss to the number of pounds of butter, lard, etc. when I shop.

Keep it up!

In a WW class once we were asked to bring in something to represent the amount of weight we had lost.  I went to a GFS store and purchased a 35 pound jug of frying oil, which was a few pounds more than I had lost at the time.  I figured fat for fat would give the best comparison of bulk and weight.  It was so heavy carrying it in--I can't imagine the eye opener for those who've lost the 50 to 100 pound amounts!  I know we all need those moments to keep up the fight.

This is such a wonderful post! You look amazing in your new pictures! Congratulations! And what a great husband! LaughingLaughing

What a fantastic picture!!!! Way to go lildutchgirl79! There are some very inspirational posts in this thread! Some very cool posts!!

I started taking my weight more seriously after a visit with my doctor. She asked me if I wanted to have children. I said, "yes very much so". She said, "Then you need to loose weight to have a healthy pregnancy". Now I'm not married yet, and would ideally like to be married b/f I have children. I have been with my boyfriend for 5-1/2 years and we would like to get married and start trying in 2-3 years. I starting thinking about how much weight I needed to loose and that's when I realized that I needed to start yesterday. I logged back into CC and am down 45lbs!!!!

My aha moment of when I realized how much weight I lost was actually last Saturday. I went into Gap and bought a good fitting size 16 pair of jeans. There wasn't one thing that I looked at and couldn't find to fit me. I was crying happy tears instead of sad tears in the dressing room. AMAZING STUFF!!! I have more to loose, I don't have a set number, I just want to wear a bikini!

Good luck to all, we are all Skinny in Training!

Way to go!

that is just awesome.  I'm going to wally world tonight and pick up a 44 lb bag because, like you, I have lost 44 lbs.  weighed in this morning.  I wasn't that excited about it until I read your story.  Thanks for sharing and congrats!!!!

that is a great comparison.  I have a friend who compared her weight loss to her grandkids, first the youngest, then the middle one, then the oldest.  The thought of carrying around those kids was really motivating.

Great job!

Wow!  Congratulations!  Thank you so much for sharing this.  It is really great to read about wonderful moments of success.  Very inspirational.

I like to think of my successes in terms of bags of sugar.  In England sugar can be (and often is) bought by the kilogram and I also weigh myself by kilograms so it makes a lot of sense.  Also, I remember from carrying the shopping home when I was a kid how heavy those kilo bags of sugar were and that they made my arms ache!

Hey, great work! That's quite the picture (the one where you're holding the bag): That's a LOT of weight you've dropped! Congratz!
