Advice anybody?

Yesterday I ate about 865 calories (it's low I know, but I missed breakfast).  I've been losing weight about every day now since Dec. 28th, but today I woke up and I gained a pound!  What do you ladies think and if you have any advice, I'll welcome it!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

865 is way too low and I'm sorry but there is no excuse for it. Weight fluctuates, don't step on the scale everyday. It's better to look at weight loss once a week. You said you've been losing every day, so that's why I'm assuming your weighing every day. Also, your body could be rebelling. As weird as it sounds, if you don't eat enough your body will lose at first but then hold onto every pound it can. I'm not sure what you weigh or how tall you are but I'm guessing you need more than 1500 calories....Take care of yourself. Your health is more important that what that damn scale says. Trust me on this one...Been there done that.

Can't say it much better, boots! I hope we don't seem naggy, aly, but while we're ALL trying to lose a bit, we're also all pretty fanatic about people doing it in a HEALTHY way. No woman should ever ever be eating less then 1200 calories a day and that's just to keep your hair from falling out and your system from failing. Like boots said (especially if you're exercising) you prob. need something close to 1500+ calories a day. Rapid weight loss is not healthy, and while you'll see results starving yourself, you run many health risks including ruining your metabolism which will make weight loss even harder in the long run. If you find yourself short on calories at the end of the day, it's super easy to make it up by eating a calorie-dense (but healthy!) snack before bed. Nuts, peanut butter, low-fat cheese, wheat pasta, anything sauted in a bit of olive oil, etc. etc. etc. Lots of options. Be good to your body, lady! It's the only one you've got. *Hugs* and good luck!

skillet: You're super sweet, but -30 lbs in two years (starting year 3!) is just not very impressive. I mean, it's something, I'm pleased it's gone, but I'm still very, very overweight. It's time to be in new-numbers territory, and I'M ready to see some physical changes. When you're still on the big side, 20-30 lbs of weight can be kind of a drop in the bucket. Your body doesn't change much. It's still AWESOME, and it's still a step in the right direction, but I still have many, many lbs to go before I can even consider that I'm getting healthier. One day at a time! I will get there. Eventually. ;) I will totally mail you my pizza crust recipe. It's been consistently delicious, a lovely texture, etc.

dani: WELCOME BACK! OMG, girl, you look so effing amazing I can hardly stand it. I know you know, but you are so cute!! What a change! Great job, hon. Keep up the good work.

forgot to mention earlier: After eight days of whining, I'm finally down a couple of pounds! Was 247 this morning. I'd be MORE excited if this wasn't territory I shouldn't even be in in the first place, but at least I'm (slowly) getting back to pre-holiday weight and I know (for sure) that I'm doing everything "right". I will be doing a happy dance when I get to 235 because that'll be -40 lbs down and finally a new set of numbers to be "stuck" in for awhile. ;)

At work again today, so excited for my trip next week!

Skillet the longer I live in the “geek house” chaos the more I sound like my mother, yesterday I caught myself telling my niece “if you are to damn last to clean your room at least close the door before you go out so I don’t have to see it” kid you not word for word my mother. Don’t get too impatient, slow and steady wins the race.

Embalmer Hi, welcome back. I am glad your life is looking up and kudos on the loss.

Meyer I would literally be lost without my crock pot, it makes it so easy to make food for 6, with out it it would all be order in.

Daraj the more changes you make the easier it becomes to change, true story.

Dutchess I am glad you and your sister have such a loving relationship.  I like your name choices, I prefer Noah for a boy, Ethan makes me think of bad 90’s style hair and saved by the bell (no idea why lol)

Timid OMG you have to let me know how roller derby goes, my city has nothing like that but I imagine (based entirely off of the movie whip it) that it would be awesome good times.

Ane Hi! Welcome back! It sounds like you have made many changes in your life, kudos to you for that.

Countryqueen I am a firm believer in taking into account the foods you cant escape and enjoying them in moderation, for me it is pasta, for you chicken wings lol. And Congrats on 40 minutes of cardio.

Tina woot for crock pot ness

Akela woot for cleaner eating, I know what you mean about junk losing its appeal, yey for our bodies helping us with our goals rather than sabotaging them as they usually do. The only time I cough up a lung when I exercise (other than when I was sick) is in forest fire season, when I probably shouldn’t be out side exercising anyway, but Chris often coughs when he is even just playing the Kinect, yes he is horribly out of shape lol. 30 pounds is great IMO, last year i lost 15, the year before I lost nothing and the year before that i lost 20ish, so am not doing much better than you, this year though I want to loose 30, so lets get ‘er done!

Dani hi! Good job not gaining much back, and awesome loss, I looked at your profile after seeing your picture, way to go, over 100 pounds down, that is a ton!

Meyer it is your body being mad at you, never eat less than 1200 calories. This is my theory, it is your body saying wtf stop ruining my metabolism.

Hey ladies!

Just popping in to say hi! Hope everyone is having a great weekend :) did some "cardio pilates" and it kicked my butt! I'll tune in later...

Thanks everyone.  Advice taken and I will do my best to follow it!

Thanks ladies, for all the well wished about my sore back.  I feel a lot better now!

Kathryn - I do see a chiro. He's a sports med specialist, but of course he's away on vacation until Feb. lol must be nice!
mmm.... Jelly Bellies!  I find if I don't prepare my meals a head of time by either making them earlier, or making sure I have fresh stuff all ready to cook in the fridge, I end up just eating junk too.  I'm glad you're feeling better though.  That's a good sign for being able to get back on track come feb.

Daraj - It's all about baby steps.  If you've made that one change this week that you can stick to, then that's one new healthy habit you have.  I lost almost 40lbs with the simple step of drinking more water.  Slower is better, and it will stick with you instead of making a bunch of changes at once and being so overwhelmed or miserable you can't keep them.

Timid - Oooh roller derby!  Sounds tough.  Like, you're going to be kicking some butt!  Exciting!

Anewdana - Welcome back, and congrats on graduating!  It's great you're not beating yourself up over the bit of weight you put back on, and are willing to hop right back on the wagon now that school is behind you, and work on getting back on track!  Good luck!

Country - Congrats on the 1.5lb loss, and working out 5 days in a row!  Way to stick with it!  And hey, there is nothing wrong with chicken wings.  You can always plan your day if you know you're going to have them.  You can also make your own at home to save on a few calories, or when you're eating them out order some veggies if they don't come with the wings, and for every wing you eat, have a handful of veggies, then another wing, then more veggies.  You'll have fewer wings and get some vitamins to boot!

Dani - WOW!  You look great!  That is an amazing before and after!  :D

I had a 4lb loss this week.  I'm not going to weigh for a few days because last night I went out and drank way too much, and ate more then a person should be allowed (damn drunk munchies!).  Surprisingly, I didn't go way over my calories with the food, but add the liquor and I'm just going to ignore that part of yesterday.  Though, I've not eaten much today (only safe carbs that are easy on my tummy) due to a little hang over, a tummy ache (probably for gorging on that stupid pizza and salad!) and terrible indigestion from yesterday. LOL  Serves me right!

How do I still have a deficit after eating a huge Mexican meal? holy crap! veggie fajitas, OMG, I love you sooooo much! Every bite was like heaven, a little stuffed, but I'm ok with that. Surprise things at one of my old favorite restaurants, making me want to eat there every day.

anewdana: lol, it blurred out your graduation status. hahahahaha! congrats on graduating!

tina: I know what you mean, My pizzas fall apart because I put so many veggies on it.

akela: I think it's because you were sick. I've also heard that if you start coughing a few minutes in it could be allergies or asthma. You're coming back down, don't be damper where you're going. I'm retreading some territory, and I was all grumpy about it, for a while. Feels good this last week though. can't wait till my 40 pounds down again too.

dani: hey! yay! nice to see you! you look way great!

aly: i think everyone got to you before I did. Their advice is fantastic.

kathryn: roller derby was kick ass today, although I just watched. I super excited to start, and all the girls are tough as nails on the floor, but so completely awesome and welcoming.

Hey everybody =) I'm 19, so I'm not sure if I really belong here since I'm not 20+ but I have similar goals. I currently weigh 263 pounds. I started eating healthier as a New Year's resolution, but I have been wanting to for a while. A couple of years ago I had started dieting from 240 and I lost 40 pounds in 5 months. Then I quit exercising and eating healthy and here I am today.

At the beginning of the week I started at 265 and I have to say this is the heaviest I have been. I really want to love my body and appreciate myself as much as I can, but right now to do so I need to become healthy again. I am looking to lose about 100 pounds. I know it will take time and will be hard work!

Since last Monday I have been going to the gym and jogging a mile, biking 4 miles and doing a good amount of cardio. I am so determined to become a healthy weight and to feel good. I have anemia which makes me really tired, but since Monday I feel like I am gaining my energy back! I want to do so many things and I can't seem to find time to just sit down for a long period of time. I am buying healthy foods and preparing home cooked meals for my boyfriend and I.

And most of all, I really want to find a forum group that I fit in with and can be inspired by everyone elses success. I want to share with people my success and help others if they need motivation. So thanks for letting me post!

aly - Usually when you first start losing weight you lose a lot of water at first and it's normal to see overnight gains like this (when you *know* you haven't overeaten) because of water fluctuations. Drinking a lot of water helps even out these fluctuations. And just to reiterate what everyone else is saying about eating more, I eat 1500 calories a day and am super lazy and lose 1-2 lbs a week, there really isn't reason to eat less unless you are really close to goal weight and not exercising.

akela - This is going to be your year! It's so funny but a friend of mine that I haven't seen in years just posted a recent pic on FB... it turns out she did a round of p90x and got super skinny! She was probably 180 before and looks about 140 right now! I bet you could lose like 10 lbs a month on the program! And you don't have to tell me about your body not changing much... you are PREACHING to the choir girl! Oh and congrats on the loss!!! Heck yeah!

kathryn - Hahaha, that is so funny! Yeah I noticed my embodiment of my parents comes out the most when I'm around children, especially my nieces! Apparently 24 isn't too young to start disciplining your sibling's kids ;)

veggie - Of course you're welcome here! There are a lot of veterans to this forum who've lost amazing amounts of weight, they are so inspirational! I think you've come to the right place. We all know "how" to lose weight, we just need the strength and motivation to do it! Good luck, and stick with it!

I was gong for no over maintenance days this month, but alas... Too much beer and too many eats tonight. Still... If this is the "only" bad day this month, that'd be a hell of deal.

My mom has always been very supportive of my weight-loss goals... And there's been many times I've wanted to try to explain my "food issues" and binging to her, but it's hard to talk about to ANYBODY in real life. Even the hubby. I've tried. You ladies are the only people I can just SAY I have these issues to who I know really "get it." Sometimes when I'm TRYING to explain to people in my life they just get this blank look on their face and I know they don't really understand anything I'm saying.

ANYWAY: My mom just randomly... After 30 years of my life... Just out of NOWHERE was like, "I've put on so much holiday weight. I really wish I could stop binging." And I was like... "WHAT?? What did you say?" "Oh, binging. I do weird stuff with my eating, sometimes. Lately it's been chocolate. Like I'll eat an entire bag of truffles in an evening." WTF?? WHAT? Really?? Now, please understand, I've never thought my mom was overweight. So, now, she's middle age and IS maybe 20 some lbs overweight, but she's in her late 50's. I figure you're allowed to not keep in killer shape once you hit a certain point, ya know? I mean, you don't HAVE to let yourself go, but jeez. Within a certain range 20 or 30 lbs extra is probably a little "normal". If you can avoid it, of course, that'd be better, but hopefully you know what I mean.

So... Like... This is an interesting epiphany. I wish we could have talked about this so many years ago. But... Maybe sometime in the near future we can have a real convo about it... It'd be interesting...

Off to bed, ladies... Need some water. *Hugs* to all, and thanks for letting me ramble.

You girls are so motivational! It's nice to remember that other people are going through the same thing and having the same problems! Congrats to everyone doing p90x, that thing is brutal!! My ex had downloaded it all so we could do it together. I looked at the "things you need to be able to do before you start" and gave up!

Cid - the vegetable idea is amazing! Never thought of that, and I'm sure the restaurant I go to must have vegetables. I could upgrade my wings from honey garlic to something spicy too so then I would HAVE to take a break from them to eat vegetables lol

So I tried to go to the gym last night and it was closed. It closes early on Saturday when people can stay up late, but stays open late on weekdays when people have to go to bed early. It was disappointing, I'll have to do a little bit more today to make up for it.

I still lost another pound though! I'm at 221, down 2.5 :) Gotta love the feeling of losing the easy weight at the beginning! I have to go to the grocery store and pick up some healthy food though, we're running low. Someone ate my last pear :(

hey everyone. im new here.

Currently weight 277lbs, goal of 145lbs. Im 5"3 and 23 years old.

No access to a gym right now, so im going to do jillian michaels 30 day shred and some other dvds :)

30 Pound Loss: Yay Akela... I do hear you though. I mean you see little changes, but it's not like when someone who only weighs 170 loses 30 pounds, and they look like a different person. I lost 40 before I put it all back on, and while everything was smaller, I looked pretty much the same.

Beer: MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! BEEER!!!!!!!!!!! Homer Simpson has donuts, I have beer.

Homeskillet: Here's some early weight loss water magic for you! I started on monday at 270 and the scale says 261.6 I know I did not lose 9.4 pounds of fat this week, but I still feel awesome. Cool

Veggie: welcome

Timid: Roller Derby-awesome!

Crock Pot=MAGIC

Afternoon Ladies!

akela: I know I will have to put on some weight. I'm trying not to stress so much but it's hard when Jason still hasn't found a job and we don't have our own place. I just worry a lot.

skillet: I am also loving Noah Alexander. I think it's unique and I like it.

dani: Good to see you back. Looking good. Don't be a stranger.

meyer: Def. be taking in more calories. The first month that I started losing weight I also was losing weight daily, but I was getting enough calories and water in. Some days I would put back on a pound or two but don't get down about it. Def. take boots advice.

Welcome veggie! Just my two cents (and past experience) don't over do it when getting back into it. You will burn yourself out and might give up. Ease into it and you will go far.

welcome faye!

Hello Ladies,

I'll try to catch up! Loads of chatter since yesterday :)

Welcome newbies! I believe a great support system is one of the keys to success, and that is what we are here for!

Aly- the best way to make sure your eating enough is to plan. Sometimes I get so caught up at work I can't leave my desk, but I make sure I either have a nutrition bar or almonds or something that will give me some cals until I can get some food in me.

Asia- hey, being down 30 is better than being up right?! I'm glad the scale finally moved for you!

Cid- I had to have a couple drinks last night since my Colts got kicked out of the playoffs... Le sigh

To everyone else, keep it up!

So I need to go to the gym today, haven't been in 2 days. Not going to beat myself up too much since I did exercise yesterday. For me, my eating habits are easy to change, I just need to be motivated to move! I had some crazy dreams last night, very meaningful!

I'll check in later, hope everyone has a great day!

akela - Ok so you know you have these problems with food, you don't think they were learned? I tend to think that my eating problems were b/c my parents were both overweight when I was a kid and I learned from them. But it seems like what you're saying is that your mom has always been slim and you've gone through life thinking this was a problem unique to you in your family? That really sucks, I'm sorry for that :( *hugs*

welcome faye!

tina - Holy crap! Even if it is mostly water, that is pretty sweet to see on the scale!

I'm just procrastinating and stuff, need to clean and cook and do laundry and run errands, but none of that is happening right now!

I lost my first 3 lbs this week! I have a super active side job at a Certain Italian Place, so eating healthy choices pretty much guarantees to help me lose weight with all the calories I burn running around that place. :)

I focused on actually eating breakfast this week [I rarely want food until I'm starving at 4-5pm, so that was HUGE] with my weight loss twin [from one of the other threads] and next week I want to start working out on my off days to keep the momentum going.

I have a UBS pad for DDR that I use with my hubs' laptop, so I might start with that, since it's cheaper than the gym and has a calorie burn tracker.

I can't wait to see next week's number! :)

hi!

I think I threw out my back, or just overused it. Same feeling as when I over exercise other areas of my body, but in a spot that's really hard to avoid using. sucks. I wonder How long it will take to go away. I hope not long, becasue I have stuff to do!

veggie: welcome! Awesome job going to the gym. I hope you stick around!

akela: I totally understand what you mean. MY mom doesn't understand things I tell her, and she completely miss uses words when talking to others. Like, she said to a girl, "It's ok to have a binge sometimes," she was referring to a few extra cookies. I told her what a binge is, and how it's not Ok to binge at all. I think that what we do is a learned behavior, we see someone we love doing it when we're young, so young, we don't remember why we do it in the first place. It kinda makes sense to me. I hope you and your mom can have the conversation soon. that would be great.

countryqueen: when things are closed, try not to put it off for too long. The "make up" pile will seem excruciating, and you might just give it up all together. I recommend small things like taking a walk for half an hour if the gym is closed, or doing a work out video. That way you don't feel like you have to make it up the next day, and you're on a clean slate.

hi faye! That's a good start, I'm a fan of working out at home, or anywhere that it's free.

tina: I love beer too. makes me want some now.

daraj: breakfast is super important, I find it's way easier to keep my calories low if I eat in the morning.

supersize vs superkinny: my obsession is back! How I love this show.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
