Burn Meter: Can anyone explain to me how the burn meter says I burn 2230 calories/day at sedentary...and then when I ADD the 350 calories I just burned--it says I'm at 2500 for my daily burn? Even though if I add 350 to my sedentary burn of 2230, it should be 2580? I want those 80 calories!! This always happens. Like--I burned over 400 calories yesterday swimming--but my "daily burn" came out to be less than what 400 + my sedentary calories (2230) would be. Anyone know something I don't?
I think I actually have the answer to this because I was puzzled too - your burn meter is taking your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and subtracting the amount it would have given you just for breathing and functioning during that time, and then adding in the increased expenditure for your workout.
Don - I think you might need to start confusing your body. If you're still not losing but CC says you're netting a burn of calories, it could be that your body just isn't being challenged anymore by the same patterns. Unfortunately it's one of mother nature's many tricks she likes to play on us. Try going in a whole new direction - use totally different muscle groups. If you run now, swim instead. If you do kickboxing now, try rockclimbing. If you exercise in the morning now, try working out at night. And try altering the way you get your calories - switch to protein heavy for a little while then carb heavy for a little while - keep your body guessing. If you wind up trying protein heavy though, make sure that you're gradual when you reintroduce a balance of carbs and still maintain a lower intake than output or you'll lose everything you gained. lol. That's how I goofed the first time.
And yes, I totally have trouble getting water in (well, I did when I used to try - I'm still nursing diet pepsi bottles like a crack feind). I find I drink a ton anyway, I just had to make it appealing. So I put 4C tea to go's in and make it into iced tea (decaf and made with splenda - no calories and no caffeine). Or you can do crystal light or something.
Well thanks for the congratulations ladies! I feel motivated suddenly. Like if I can do 10 pounds, I can do 100. I feel the need to go workout with my new-found time (which I don't actually have yet, but I'm counting!). I'm hoping it lasts. lol.
Muppet - CONGRATULATIONS on the 2nd interview! Good luck! Hopefully you'll be celebrating a job change soon too!
Ally: Ha!! Karen from Will & Grace!! Not even a little bit. Ryan just pointed out that my MOTHER does sound a little like Karen from Will & Grace. // But no...not me. Low voice, for a girl, I mean. So Dalma--I guess "dudely" wasn't exactly right...just not really feminine.
Glad Mr. Bear is okay, Embalmer!
Burn Meter: Thanks girls. This makes sense. Look, Asia--we were both kind've right!! You DO have to take away the amount you would normally burn each hour--but YOU were right because CC does it for you!
Almost 40 posts behind, yikes! Just keeping my place <3
i see muppet and dutchess with the same type of voice like a mis of donna from that 70's show and some hoarse sexy raspiness like joss stone.
sonini is the same but not so raspy.
i think ally, akasha and i have very similar voices. dont ask me why though. very very valley girl and a lot of clueness and stoner vibes. dont ask me why though.
boots and don in between above and below.
dalma i think is professional but valley girlish.
watchme, professional and mellow, very meelow and melancholy.
akela a mix between the 2 previous.
shapie, msn, newdana, and elf very bubbly and chipper even when they are not. for some reason i want to throw in abby as well.
timid and embalmer very daria-esq, more so than watchme.
and the british chic, just, i just her "mum" with the accent. the rest is more like the shapie catagory.
hope i didnt offend anybody. just how i would think you would sound. i dont really know about regions. i fell like i am the most southern cuz i dont see much ya'lls in here. and i am texas born and breed so, i only know southern and california accents from tv. oh and canadians with the EH.
about drink a beer while i watch big brother. got my iud woopie!!!!
muppet did you see the msn article about your chick? whats her name, something Renn. she is a size 10 and they touched up the pic to make her look like a 2 in her opion.
fallon: I never would have guessed someone would peg me as sounding like donna from that 70's show. (LOVE THE SHOW).
Ate dinner on the back porch. So awesome! Made fried carbondo beans and mushrooms, and stuffed those into a tortilla with some sauce I made with some arugula. Yum! Trying to decide what kind of ice cream I'm going to make. Either corn or avacado. Brie is going to make beet ice cream. We're just trying out weird flavors to see if they'll work.
dutchess: I know what you mean. I did an insane amount of push ups for the high school health test, now My arms get so tired after like a few normal push ups. I also have trouble bending them correctly. Knees totally help with doing them correctly, with me at least.
don: you're going to have to adjust it depending on how your body responds. The BMR calculators aren't 100 percent accurate. If you start to feel to fatigued, then up those calories, if you maintain or gain, lower them. you can eat less on days you don't work out, more on days you do. In other news, I sweat like crazy when I do yard work, my glasses get all foggy and wet. lol. I'm glad the iron is working for you! As for pills, I take a multivitimin that has some extra iron in them, and although I bruise, I think I would bruise less if I added some staight iron pills.
water: I'm still really bad at it... I'm almost dehydrated all the time.
embalmer: I'm sorry about your hours cut, that's a real pain. I hope you start feeling better, depression is a harsh controlling bitch.
ally: like a few weeks ago, this meth fueled lady swore that I stole her purse. She threatened to get hell's angels there to kick our asses. I kept telling her I didn't take it, and she didn't believe me. I mean, have they seen inside nick's house, and the stuff I carry with me? I don't need to steal. lol. perhaps it's better that she didn't see in, they might have stolen stuff.
fallon: that's super cute!
muppet: I think there's an amount of calories that you have while sediary and the amount you burn. Like it says you burned like 350 calories, but 80 of those are actually part of your sediary. so it turns out that 270 calories were actually from the activity, and 80 were from doing nothing. you'll be able to find glutten free breads, and cereals and such. There's so many specialty stores sprouting up, and health stores have an abundance of them.
akela: hey!
voices: hahahaha, I want to dress up like Karen for halloween! I need to get her voice down! that cracks me up! I'll even try and find a boot and thigh holster for booze! fallon, that list is fantastic, I love it.
fallon i think you totally got me!
meanwhile, my period's due next week, and NONE of my clothes fit. this is the 2nd time this has happened this year. i don't get this! i guess i need to drink more water. i am soooo freakin' bloated.
Thanks Soccer and Timid for all the advice I think i am going to play around with my calories for the rest of the week and see what happens. I did up my weights so my muscles could be holding on to water. I'm not going to freak out too much until I see a pattern. It was just today that happened so, oh well. Honestly I think my body may have just gotten use to my routine and I need to change it up. You girls are awesome as usual!
Good night ladies no gym tomorrow have a lot to get done before the weekend!
I'm really busy at work lately, I read everything and will try to respond later.
Shapie: Absolutely nothing like Keira Knightley.. Or Emma Watson (Hermione) far less posh, loads more common!! Not as nice at all. Also, one of my friends from uni knows Emma Watson and says she's a proper bitch..
Ally: Lily Allen and Kate Nash are proper Cockney (London) accents. Really southern. As for the rest of British singers.. I don't really know! I think everyone in England Americanises things a little bit.. But to me these singers sound English. To be honest, I don't think I really notice people's accents when they're singing.. I probably will now! You're definitely not hopelessly unaware.. More aware than me anyway!!
Fallon: Awwwwriiight? (in my best London accent)
Don: That salad sounds good!! I'll have to try it.. Jazzing up my salads like a pro. Also, I am constantly dehydrated. I never really get thirsty, so I just forget to drink! I have to proper force myself..
Timid: Post officially copied before pressing send..
Everyone: Have a great day!! x
UGH! I gained back a pound and a half
. Oh well, I know I deserve it - I've been TERRIBLE on the calories lately. Still netting out to a burn according to CC though which gives me absolutely no faith in their counting. lol. I really only find I lose weight when my net burn is up around 1500 - 3000 per day. Oh well, that just gives me more incentive to check out the neighborhood gyms today after work.
I have to go sign some paperwork and get my drug test for my new job today so since I'll be up in the area already Adam and I are probably going to go out to this place that makes its own pasta for a celebration dinner... so yeah, that'll blow my calories for the day again. lol. This new job is going to kill me. (jk) Again, more incentive to go beat the crap out of my body on Saturday. ![]()
Tons of work to do today... better get back to it. Have a great day ladies!
embalmer Glad the pups is fine.
soccer I fluctuate like 3lbs every other day. Don't worry about it, just stay on track and eventually those fluctuations will decrease.
Heard back from one new photographer. Husband/wife team, which is awesome. Their stuff looks great, just waiting for them to send me their price list. Feeling good about them. Hope they're not too expensive!
mornin' chicks!
i'm sick of screwing around with this LAST 10 POUNDS, so i rejoined weight watchers today. i was gonna wait till sunday, but today was the last day for their really awesome deal.
anyway, so as not to kill myself, i'm gonna go easy on the physical activity--wait! i just realized i can adjust my points! so i made them a little higher so i won't starve to death. sorry, realized this mid-typing, so i had to go back and fix it.
but i've realized that i'm gonna have to change my august challenge. i can't do intense cardio w/ such a low calorie level. i'll change it from 5 days of intense cardio to 5 days of cardio, period.
i am PRAYING that i'll be done w/ weight loss by the end of september. early october at the latest.
btw, mupps, i know how frustrated you are w/ the weight stall, and i know you didn't mean any offense, but it's just as maddening to be stalled out w/ 80 or 90 or whatever lbs to lose as it is to be stalled w/ 10 lbs left.
it feels the exact same, b/c you're still fighting your body to do something it just doesn't wanna do, and you wish you could punch it into submission, but you'd just be punching yourself and that would hurt. ![]()
Last week: 182
This week: 180.1
Change: -1.9 pounds!!!
Holy crap I haven't lost 2 pounds in a week since the beginning of my weight loss! I'm so close to the 170s I can taste it. Planning on lifting weights today, then doing some serious shopping at Old Navy. If I bring my college ID I get 25% off everything in the store. SWEET!
YAY ELF!!!!!
morning. WOke up late! ahhhhh! it's not too bad though. There's always work to be done! I have an eye appointment today, should be interesting.
stats:
hw: 227
lw: 186
cw: 185
loss: 1 pound
thoughts: I can't wait till august, stuffs ganna fall off like it's nothing! I want to see under 185 next week, so bad!
migikal: thumbs up!
soccer: it happens, and sometimes there's no reason behind it, you'll get it off again. Just watch yourself!
dalma: I hope your weight watchers experience goes ok this time.
elf: yay!!!!!!
Great job Elf!
Ok, I must have missed this post/thread/whole discussion - what's the August challenge thingy?
Last Week: 229.7
This Week: 230.8
Difference: +1.1lbs
Thoughts: Meh. I didn't expect to lose anything, but I don't think this is a real gain either. I saw my very lowest last Friday--229.7....and every day since then, I've been between 231.5 and 233.5. Today is actually the lowest I've been SINCE last Friday. Now--I admit--I probably ate close to an legit extra pound in the first four days of the week. BUT--I had 900-ish calorie deficits the last three days. So mathematically---There's no way I gained an actual pound. SO--I'm just hoping that the sodium/bloat/whatever continues to fall off...and that in the next 9 days--I can get down to 228 for August 1st.
Fallon: OMG, you're right! Donna from That 70's Show is a pretty good example of my voice. Like, not spot on, obviously, but probably the best celebrity comparison I can think of. Though Ryan DID point out that sometimes when I get animated (which is often)--my voice is all over the place in pitch/speed/everything. So I would say Donna is a good--normal, chill voice for me. // I did NOT see the Crystal Renn article! I will find it!
Wii Fit: Guys, I know I say that Wii Fit is like--a wussy workout...but I am SO sore today. So honestly--it's not so much a BAD workout--as it just--takes longer to get the SAME workout that you would've at the gym.
Migi: I always imagined Emma Watson would be a total piece of ****. // I love Kate Nash. Not because she's English--but just...the lyrics. Love, love. Are you a fan?
Shapie: Good luck with the new photographer possibility!
Dalma: Yeah, I guess I get you. I mean--either way, we are both waiting on our bodies to let go of their comfort zones. For me, though, it's a different frustration. You are frustrated because you are SO close--and SO ready for the last 10lbs to just be gone. And I am so frustrated--because I have never really, truly, honestly been under 230 in my entire adult/teen life. So you're like--waiting for the end of a long journey. And I feel like I'm waiting for mine to begin. Don't get me wrong, I know I've done 60lbs of work total...but I won't get to see NEW body changes/clothes/etc--until I am past this place. I'm so ready. I certainly didn't mean my struggle/frustration was bigger, by any means...but I think it's still a different feeling. I'm sure I'll be pissy at the last 10lbs...but I will also look so, so good. ;-)
Elf: I'm so jealous!!
Good morning ladies
Not sure what is going on with my body this week
. I was 219 Monday, 222.4 yesterday, and this morning I'm up to 223.4! I count my calories never going over and work out everyday yet my weight is going up! I'm starting to think my body is in starvation mode or something holding on to everything I eat. I'm going to play with my calories this weekend and see what happens. Today no gym, had french toast for breakfast, probably have Zaxby's for lunch, and just relax. Maybe this is my body's way of telling me, "FEED ME!" I'm going to aim for a smaller defecit instead of my 900-1100 go for a smaller 500-600. and up my fluid intake to the 8 glasses of water definitely bc I know i'm dehydrated.
Soccergirl I can definitely relate to your frustration right now. Just hang in there if you are doing what you are suppose to just give your body time to catch up. Crazy how I can tell you that yet I am over here worrying about these weeks weight fluctuation. YAY for drug testing!!! (LOL)
Oh Shapie I so hope the photographer works out and their prices are within range of what you are working for!
I so applaud you Dalma for not giving up on those last 10 pounds! Good luck with WW
Congrats Elf on the 2 pounds! Does all Old Navy's do that 25% or just yours? Thats great news to know if they all do
Go Timid, Go Timid!!!
Hope everyone has a great day, to Walmart I go!!!
