How about a group for women in their 40's

Quote  |  Reply

Well I see groups for 20, 30 and 50 somethings. I would like to join up with other active women in their 40's who have around 30 lbs to lose.

I am 5'8"

171 lbs

42 yrs

I am quite active- hiking, biking and running, but have been neglectful in counting my calories and need to watch portion control. I am vegetarian and eat quite healthfully, but need to cut back on not so healthy foods if I am to lose the 25-30 lbs I would like to. Is there any interest in starting a small support group for exercise and weight loss? My goal weight is 140 lbs and I think that Christmas time is a realistic date.

Thanks for the support my friends.  I'm wondering if netflix has exercise DVDs.  If they do I could try them out without spending money on something I may not like.  When I'm at the gym I see those infomercials for Zumba and Insanity I think is the name.  They look great and their infomercials are so pumped up that I think, hey thats for me...until I see the price.  So I'm going to check out netflix and see what they've got.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Happy Friday the 13th to you all too.

Good idea with netflix Floridabonz. I've tried a couple actual Zumba classes and they are a lot of fun.

Hi There, are you still open for new members to this group?

I am getting more active and I have improved my eating a lot but I need to now get more serious about counting my calories everyday and adding weights to my exercising.

Hi Mom2, glad you're here with us.

Kona, zumba intimidates me because I'm left handed (and left footed) so everything is backwards.  When I do things like that, I end up stumbing a lot and looking like a fool.

Welcome Mom2 :)  Jump right in.  I think working out with weights has helped a lot with my wt loss and body shape.  Zumba sounds really fun.  Not quite sure I am ready for Insanity yet, LOL  I know a lot of people have mentioned finding exercise programs on the internet.

Great job everyone!!!

Hi Nina, welcome.

I think I need to do something with weights as well.

I hear you floridabonz. I'm right handed and footed but still stumble and look like a fool. It's so much fun though I'm not too bothered.

Kona, Its nice to hear that theres more than one of me cause I definitely stand out.  I love music though and I love dance so maybe I should just go for it.

I definitely think you should go for it, the more you practice, the better you will get :)  I wish they had classes like that around here.  One of the disadvantages of living in a rural community and my computer is not really set up for stuff like that.

I have done a few Zumba classes through our parks & rec program and it my favorite workout.  I have to be in the front row because I am short and cannot see the instructor otherwise.  At first I was really self conscious but to be honest it moves so fast everybody is just trained on the instructor or you will miss the next move, nobody is looking at their neighbor.  Currently it doesn't fit into my schedule with 2 teen/pre-teen boys and all of their activities.  As soon as I can, I will sign up again.

Mom2- sounds like fun.

I am really frustrated right now.  I came down with a case of benign positional vertigo last weekend ( makes you dizzy, etc)  and it has never totally gone away although it got better over the week.  It is worse again today.  I have an apt on Monday to see my practitioner so I hope we can get this figured out!  It has really put a kink in my ability to do my workouts.  I have been doing the best I can but I want to be able to put 100% into it, especially once I start Chalean Extreme, which should be showing up any day.  I have not felt sick AT ALL, so no clue what is going on :(  I am concerned that it will be turn into a chronic thing or I will need a bunch of expensive medical tests that I really can't afford.  So that is my BOO HOO for the day.  Hope everyone else is having a better one :)

Sorry to hear Tina,

Hopefully it is some little virus that will disappear as fast as it came. Gorgeous and sunny here, so I am off for a paddle.

Kara- that sounds like a lot of fun!  How well do you think that would work in a stock pond?  LOL

Hey, how is everyone's week going?  It would be nice to check in more than once a week for weigh in's, LOL

My dizziness is feeling better today.  My practitioner thinks it might be related to fluid in my ears from allergies, new one for me but I'll take it instead of something weird going on that requires expensive tests and specialists!  She is putting me on medication and we will see how the new few days go.  KMFX that this fixes it.

My Chalean Extreme program came this weekend so looking forward to getting started, maybe tomorrow.  I'll let you know how it goes :)

Hi All,

I have hit 199.5.  The last time I got as low as 198 it lasted about a week and then went back up it has taken a month (vacations, etc, blah blah) to get it back off.  I never want to see the 200 on my scale again.  I amost always go over my 1500 cal per day but if my elliptical count is even close to real it should be okay because I am still a negative 800 cal or so.  Hard to say what is accurate in what I eat vs. what I burn.  The horse I am leasing came up lame, goes to the vet today so I will know more later.  I hope I can ride soon.  I still need to work on cutting out/down on diet pop.  I hope everyone had a nice weekend and will have a great week. Nina

I had a frustrating weekend and ate too much.  Then I continued that attitude on Monday night.  I am very frustrated that i can't constently control my eating.  I'm trying again today.  I brought my own food and snacks to work instead of ordering from the restaurant.  Hopefully that will make a difference.

Tina~good luck with the dizziness. Hopefully it has continued to improve. Have fun with the Chalean Extreme.

Nina~Congratulations and goodbye for good 200's!

Bonnie~I hear you. I had a few bevvies this weekend and also went over my calorie limit somewhat. Let's just not make a habit of it. I am back on track this week as well. I had a great canoe paddle on Saturday and an awesome hike Sunday though. Here's to  good (and controlled) rest of the week.

Thanks for the encouragement Kona.  It sounds like you had a good exercise weekend.  The only day I've taken off was Sunday so I'm doing ok with exercise too.  Its just the food issues I've got to tackle.

Bonnie- packing your lunch will hopefully help a lot.  I would totally be off healthy eating if I didn't pack mine on the days I work.  Sometimes I feel like I am packing half the ref but it is totally worth it, LOL

Kara- your exercise sounds like a lot of fun.  I got back into it today with Tubo Jam Cardio  Punch, Kick and Jam and did the fitness portion of Chalean Extreme.  You are supposed to record your fitness when you start.  I will start the first official workout tomorrow and let you know how it goes.  I have not had any trouble with dizziness today so KMFX!

Nina- sorry to hear your horse is lame.  I hope it is nothing serious.  Let us know what the vet says.  I used to ride a lot when I was a kid but not so much anymore.  Great job on getting under 200!  That is a great feeling. Keep it up :)  I think you are doing fine on your cals.  I average 1500-1600 per day working our 4-5 times a week and have been losing consistently.

Well, I finally got started on Chalean Extreme today.  It was really great.  I am going to be so sore tomorrow I bet.  Feeling it in my muscles already.  The weight workouts are only 35 min long so I may add on some cardio on my off days from work after I get going.

How is everyone else doing?

Nina- how did your horse turn out?
