How about a group for women in their 40's
Well I see groups for 20, 30 and 50 somethings. I would like to join up with other active women in their 40's who have around 30 lbs to lose.
I am 5'8"
171 lbs
42 yrs
I am quite active- hiking, biking and running, but have been neglectful in counting my calories and need to watch portion control. I am vegetarian and eat quite healthfully, but need to cut back on not so healthy foods if I am to lose the 25-30 lbs I would like to. Is there any interest in starting a small support group for exercise and weight loss? My goal weight is 140 lbs and I think that Christmas time is a realistic date.
Hello all!
Just a quick check in. Graduation went well, short and sweet, about an hour and a family party afterwards. My sister an I did get a walk in yest morning and some body weight exercises. So far that is my only exercise this trip, just haven't had time. Going shopping today so plenty of walking then heading home early in the morning. Definitely eating a few treats but I'll just deal with it when I get home!
Hope everyone had a good weekend. NOT looking forward to getting back to the grindstone, I must say :(
Ann- looks like you are getting in some great walks :)
Rachel- how did the housework/gardening go?
Hello all :) Busy weekend, followed by a busy week. Yikes! But school ends today so hopefully things will calm down soon :)
Ate out last night. The rest of my week better be perfect because I definitely splurged. oh well!
Tina, such is life with treats, right? Just get back on track. It's all we can do :)
Rachel
Rachel- hard to believe my kids have been out for a week already! Did you get a good meal eating out?
Back at work this morning. I feel like I have a hangover and I didn't even get to enjoy acquiring it! LOL Not sure if it's just from the long drive or all the junk I ate yest. My body is not used to all that sugar anymore :( I kept snacking to keep awake, too many twizzlers then an ice cream cookie treat on top of it in the afternoon then some PB M&M's later. Lunch and snacks packed today to get back on track. I am on call tonight so staying in town and hope I feel up to a workout. I told my sister I need a new goal to work toward. I was totally focused on wearing that dress for my nephew's graduation and now that it is over, I need something else. Will have to think about it. I did get some new clothes on Mon so my sister says my goal is to be able to keep wearing them :)
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Tina, So great about the grad dress. Here's something, you have inspired me to stick with it. Watching your success helps me picture mine! So keep up the great work!!!
Between driving and such it can really be tiring. It takes a lot of concentration and it's surprising how whipped a person can get after 10 hours.
Rachel, Lunch sounds good! I think a treat is deserved. I read somewhere that mixing up the calories by throwing in a high day every once in a while actually helps a diet. Something about not going into starvation mode. You are also doing great!
Sonya, Kara and Karen hope you had a good weekend.
My weekend was more extreme gardening. I planted 2 zucchini and 2 cucumber, 8 tomatoes, spinach, 4 raspberry bushes, 4 strawberries and 2 blackberry bushes. Spreading mulch and hauling around dirt.
Had an exciting evening. Was just starting up Limbaugh trail by the cabin and Venus disappeared. (She eventually come home-it took her about an hour because I had neighbors checking.) I, on the other hand, went up the trial road, down to the gate (X3), up the trail half way to the real trail, back down near the gate and finally all the way out to the second creek crossing before the trail splits and goes up to Balanced Rock Road. Had two other friends who live near here driving around looking in the neighborhoods. I turned around just after the creek, up by the meadow, and finally got back into cell range. (The entire time I am yelling and whistling for her) Jim, my neighbor left a message and said she made it home safe and sound. She is so-not-ever-going to pull that one again. That said, I'm so glad we have walked as much as we have around here so she knew how to get home. Of course I'm wearing the lightest thinnest soled cross trainers I have because I'm thinking a walk/hike to inspiration point and home. I found out those are really good shoes and I can, in fact, run trails. Unfortunately, my heel was starting to feel better, had to ice it the rest of the night. It's sore today. I'm sore today! Here I thought I was getting into pretty good shape.
Here's what that little jaunt added up to:
Activity record from 03:40pm to 06:15pm
- Duration 2hrs 35min
- Cals burned 2001
- Steps 14138
- Floors 98
- Distance 6.25 mi
- Pace 24:47/mi
Tina- some candy and snacks to stay awake and between the lines, vs no snacks and not staying between the lines. I think you made a good choice.
Ann- ugh! Glad she returned home safe and sound :) Is she tyically on a leash or just going along with you? Just wondering? Sounds like you got in a great workout though ;) We will be starting a new weight loss challenge in my Lose it for a Lifetime group the 4th of June. Even if I don't lose a lot during these challenges, they keep me aware of my weight and focused on my efforts so that will help too. Thanks for the encouragement as an inspiration to you, another reason to keep going!

Yea, me too!! I also had jerky, almonds, and dried apple slices, should probably have stuck to those, LOL
Oh yea, I had to work a couple of hours both Friday night and Sunday night. Monday was fairly calm, went out to Dog Park and more gardening, but on a much smaller scale. So I didn't get to posting until today.

Maybe, but sugar does have it's advantages in those situations! :D The next day really does hurt though.
Sorry I haven't been on here been very busy doing a whole bunch of different stuff, like trying to get a permit to keep chickens in the city ![]()
We are also going on vacation the end of June ( to Europe, uggh, LONG flight, dreading the whole process) , and I still have to do a bunch of stuff for that, plus last few weeks of school here. I really do need a vacation.
Diet: no idea, lol! I haven't weight myself in at least 2 weeks. I also haven't counted any sort of calories. The only thing I HAVE still been doing is what I always do, excercise. Just went to yoga ![]()
Plus I got sucked into joining another internet group, and can't seem to stay away from their forums...don't ask, lol!
Hope everyone is well
Sonya
I tried every kind of leash and 'no-pull' system out there. All the training. Sit-we-go- nowhere-till-you-stop-pulling-routine. Treats-which meant sit, wait, thanks and off she'd go. Most dogs think linearly-treats are in pocket-stick close to the pocket. Not so with Venus, she figured out that treats are intermittent, so how to get more of those? "Hmmmm, go to the end of leash, or just out front and get a treat. Heck, I can do this all day." I can only carry so many treats. I tried the dog whisper stuff. Finally had to give up, my arm and her throat (head, chest, nose yada yada) just couldn't take any more. Plus the fact, if I have her on a regular lead when we're hiking and she pulls, it can get dangerous, so I can't do that. I could just leave her at home, but that's no fun. I stopped on this tack, before really breaking her spirit. That would turn her mean. I just don't want that to happen. I finally had to give in and get an e-collar and a nifty collar that has a retractable leash all-in-one (which I use to keep her close for very short periods of time). In this case it was my fault for not keeping her in sight. She and I both went through training on the e-collar.
It's just the kind of dog she is...Doberman/Shepard mix. Both breeds bond early and are loyal, smart and very stubborn. It's like training a cat. (or a teenager?) She has to want to please me. She usually does. In her case, I don't think it helped she was returned to the rescue 2 times before I came along and instead of a full foster home, was taken to a day care dog kennel. She's not risking that again, she figured out what happens and hasn't forgotten it. Even now we are still bonding and it's been over a year. My guess is she will always have a streak of mistrust in her. Can't say I blame her. I might be biased, but I think all her good traits make her a wonderful dog. Aside from the leash, she is sweet, good with other dogs, will diffuse a fight--not grovel or go down on her back, but actually stands her ground and diffuses it (amazing thing to see). She is fun, playful, learns things quickly (she knows and will go to the front or back door on command from anywhere in the house or yard, plus all the standard tricks) and she's great in the house-I've never had to kennel her.
So that's my girl dog...wouldn't trade her in for anything in the world.
Sonya, Europe sounds fun. Is it a whorl wind tour or somewhere specific? That's sounds like a great vacation. The plane trips are rough, but it's so worth it.
Enjoy you vacation!
Hey all, Weight of the nation is an interesting HBO series. I started watching it free online. Wow, some powerful stuff in here. You guys might have already seen it or heard about it if you have tv.
Ann- I do want to watch it, just haven't had time to even look at it yet! I looked up e-collars because I wasn't sure what you were talking about. Does she usually come back when you call her?
Sonya- I have never been to Europe and it's probably not on my list although it sounds fun. My brother and SIL went to England last fall because her sister was stationed there in the Air Force. My 21 yr old nephew is in England right now in the service too.
I did make it to the fitness center for a workout last night. I really wanted to wimp but decided the stress relief would be good before dealing with my 4 kids. They are getting on my last nerve right now :( It doesn't help that we haven't been home for almost a week now. I do get to go home tonight. Then I can unpack and repack for my weekend of call. ![]()
Ann, I've watched the 3rd part of that series and that's what got me thinking about the summer project again. Today is Day #2 for us and we're doing pretty good. For my 4 rules (eating right, water, movement, and limited TV/computer time), the kids are hitting about 3 of them perfectly. It'll be the limited TV time that will get them, I'm sure. It definitely is a powerful message -- what are we doing to our kids? What will this nation become if we keep going like we are? Don't want to even think about that. Makes me think of the "Wall-E" movie.
Doing well this week. I've gotten to the basement all 4 mornings so far, and we've done evening activities 2 of the 3 nights too. Will head out again tonight for a run. Hoping this momentum continues!
I have a pug that is leash trained, but it's mainly because we live in town where that's the law -- pets not in a fence must be on a leash. And anytime she's slipped out of the house without the leash, we've spent hours trying to catch her. She's quick! And slippery :( I wish we lived where we could just let her run but then I'd worry she'd not come back! I think with each dog, though, you have to do what works for them. We adopted a beagle once and thought we'd have her inside, but she was just too content outside. She'd go off roaming in the morning and when we got home she'd be there to greet us. That was at our old house where we had fields and lots of places for her to play. It would have broken her to have been kept inside.
Sonya, sounds like a fun trip -- enjoy!
Tina, I totally hear you on the stress relief! That's what I was hoping for when I was running last night - -it worked!
Later, Rachel
Tina, I haven't had time to watch it all either, but hope to watch a bit at a time. Venus usually comes when I call. I have trained her to come when I whistle too. ( She has decided if I don't have treats then it's optional. How does she know? No treats after coming back a couple of times when called. It's an electronic collar. I can usually just use the buzz/vibrate and she gets it. Hope things settle down for you. I'm a home body too, not too fond of being gone. Way to go on getting a workout!
Rachel-Congrats on the run. We have leash law here too, town police have driven by when I'm walking her and not said anything, small town and they aren't too fussy I guess. Pugs are such cute dogs.
I'm going to go get some stress relief. Got to get out.
Good morning :)
Weighed in today -- 2 pounds down from last week, 1/2 pound down from the week before. Sitting at 182. Took my body fat percentage, though, and was not pleased to see 38%. Are those things accurate? I definitely carry a lot of excess weight around my middle, but my legs are solid muscle. I can't see that over 1/3rd of my weight is fat. Oh well, something to work to reduce, right?
Our project is going well. The boys are online more than they should be, but less than they usually are so that's making progress. We all are getting out more too and that's the whole point.
I took today off from work -- 4 day weekend! Lots planned, lots to do :) I'll be around though so keep chatting. Lets get through the long holiday weekend without gaining, OK?
Rachel
Rachel-Congrats on the loss! It's all the right direction :)
I have a scale that measures body fat and it says I'm at 33.5% and it hasn't changed even after I lost the last 12 lbs. If that had all been muscle I wouldn't be able to walk. But that said, it claimed my visceral fat went from down a point. In short, no, I don't think these are all that accurate. I read they can be off by up to 10%.
Weigh in:
LW: 151 lbs
CW: 150.8 lbs
GW: 135-140 lbs
My body is just not ready to buckle on this yet. I have been alternating low calorie days with normal calorie days and trying to get out and exercise more. I did another 4.4 mile hike yesterday.
Here's something new for me. I've had 1/2 of a cheesecake in my fridge since last night and haven't touched it. It doesn't even look good to me right now. (Really? What used to be my favorite dessert and binge food????) This is so out of character for me I wonder if I'm coming down with something. I'm not resisting-I just don't want it. I'd have never in a million-billion years thought this would happen.
Ann- I would never turn down cheesecake!! Something must be wrong with you ;) Let us know if the urge to eat it comes back. You are sooooo close to breaking into the 140's!!
Rachel- great job on the weight loss this week :) It's nice that you have a 4 day weekend so enjoy it!
I am not weighing in this week. After my vacation I don't need a high number throwing me off when I am back on track now with eating and exercise. We are starting a new weight loss challenge soon and/or I'll weigh in next week and hope the food/water weight is gone by then, LOL
Working today and I am on call until 7 AM Monday morning. Hubby kept all 4 kids at home today. Grandma is supposed to be showing up later so hopefully nothing happens in the meantime. Hubby is trying to farm/spray weeds at the same time so will be out of the house quite a bit. The kids are basically 11, 10, almost 5 and 3 so they should be ok, right?
If it doesn't rain today, grass takes priority over the fitness center before it's too tall to mow!! I also need to do some major weeding of flower beds. We'll see how ambitious I get over the weekend. I do have to work tomorrow 9-12 as well. We may be having a family b-day party for the two oldest kids on Monday when hubby's sister and fiance are visiting from ND.
Hope everyone has a great Memorial weekend!
Ended up mowing on Fri night. I did make it for my workout Sat afternoon then did the treadmill on Sun morning. Also got some flower beds weeded and flower pots out front planted. MIL has had the kids most of the weekend so that has been a nice break. Hubby's sister is visiting from ND so she is helping take care of them as well. We may have a b-day dinner for the two older kids tonight. They are supposed to let me know.
Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Weekend :)
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
