How about a group for women in their 40's

Quote  |  Reply

Well I see groups for 20, 30 and 50 somethings. I would like to join up with other active women in their 40's who have around 30 lbs to lose.

I am 5'8"

171 lbs

42 yrs

I am quite active- hiking, biking and running, but have been neglectful in counting my calories and need to watch portion control. I am vegetarian and eat quite healthfully, but need to cut back on not so healthy foods if I am to lose the 25-30 lbs I would like to. Is there any interest in starting a small support group for exercise and weight loss? My goal weight is 140 lbs and I think that Christmas time is a realistic date.

Forgot to post my weight this morning!

BW;  227

LW:  148 I think

CW:  147

Ann- If I was a walker I would definitely join your challenge :)  This time of year most of my exercise is inside and I don't do the treadmill a lot as it's boring :(  I'm going to try and get the kids out more this summer!

I also advise avoiding the drug route because you need to maintain long term good habits.  Some are down right dangerous and most don't really work and just waste your money :(  I really like my gowearfit.  It calculates my steps, activity level, sleep effeciency, etc and I can track my cals there too if I want.  Since I was set up on CC and had a lot of my stuff already in, I didn't want to start over so don't use that part.  It does cost $6/mo to log on and download your stuff.

Rachel- sorry about TTOM and I don't blame you.  There are some days when it's just better to avoid the scale!

Jennifer- I'm sure it will feel better in a few months when you get your new duties all down pat :)

Ann- you are so rocking your weight loss!!  This from the gal who was about to give up a few months ago :)

Tina-LOL, yea I was about to throw in the towel.  I was so completely frustrated...It really is good to be on track :D

I couldn't or wouldn't have stuck it out without this crowd though!!!  Thanks to all for your support Cool

I'm 40 4'11 and 149, want to get to 130.. I've lost 7 ppunds in the last 2 weeks great to be here on calorie count.. every one needs supporters and positive thoughts..

Hello Jimmeld, welcome.

My weigh in is late, because I was out of town at a conference.

LW 168

CW 166

The conference was about the brain and how we need social interaction and physical activity (among other things) to really get the most from our brains. So not only are we getting in shape physically, but we are also increasing brain power when we exercise- so Yay!

I would be interested in that challenge Ann. I am finding the fitbit to be quite motivating as well. I use a wahoo in my iphone with a heart rate monitor and that is much more accurate for the activities I do-skate skiing, classic and biking on the wind trainer, but I still really like the fitbit. It sure doesn't credit me with accurate distances or steps, but the floors seem pretty close, as does the active time when I enter it based on the wahoo info.

Rachel-right, taxes. Good luck paying down that debt, that will be awesome!

Ann-Two good recipes- one for pumpkin veggie chili-interesting and then a tofu, kale, portabello mushroom scramble-very yummy. (Great job on the weight loss)

Jennifer-Congrats on the pound and hopefully your work settles down soon. Have fun at your girls' weekend!

Kris-I'm not vegan. I am ovo-lacto, but I really like the recipes on that site because they are very healthy and really good generally. I hope your IT band heals soon too. I'm not familiar with Amberen, but the idea of any kind of drug like that scares me (and I am very skeptical).

Happy Saturday everyone!

Does anyone else want to update their weight for the chart? I will take some names off next week for those not interested. Please let me know if I have missed some weigh-ins. It is entirely possible.

Hi everyone will be 41 in April and I have an 18 year old daughter who is leaving for college this summer. And I have single handedly eaten my way from 136 to 151 in about 6 months. I'm already missing my daughter so I ate and ate and ate. I need to get back to where I was six months ago. If I'm this bad while she is home, what damage will I do after she leaves? So frustrating.
  • Duration      3hrs 50min
  • Cals burned  1197 (I haven't entered what activity yet so this is low)
  • Steps           15155
  • Floors           146
  • Distance       6.72 mi
  • Pace             34:12/mi

Snowshoeing.  Yep I'm tired and my legs are jello.  All the time I lived here and I hadn't taken that road.  What a beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic day!  Views were spectacular!  So worth it.  I'll be doing that again.

Kara, Those sound like good recipes.  I'm a omnivore, totally.  Got home today and had two medium rare burgers (organic meat).  Ahhhhh, protein.....

If you're good with it I'll post the distances and those who want to join, can :D Should I post it here or would you rather I put it on another blog?

Ann- I would love to follow your progress :)

Kara- you are doing awesome on your weight too.  You can really see the progress when it's lined out like that :)

Rachel- lots of progress there as well :)

Kid's at MIL's today.  Housework, laundry, bookwork, etc.  Still trying to get stuff done for taxes.  I did get my workout done this AM, weights today.  Hopefully a good cardio workout tomorrow.  Got into the chocolate a bit this afternoon.  Could have been worse though so I'm not beating myself up.  Just woke up in one of those moods you know?

kkmmom- welcome!  It's good to recognize what is leading to the overeating and figure out a way to deal with it and cope in another way.  Good luck!

Jimmeld- welcome and congrats on the 7 lbs.  Sounds like you are off to a great start :)

Welcome kkmmom!

Yes, it seems like we are having some success doesn't it?

Ann- let's see how many in this group are interested, and if not too many, you could start another and perhaps others would join as well. What do you think? I'm excited about the idea, so let's start soon! And wow on your snowshoe!

Welcome kkmmom and Jimmeld!

Tina, sounds like a little chocolate was just what you needed.  I have some around for just such 'days' :)

Kara, sounds good.  I'll do some research and we can take it from there, starting another blog works too so we'll just see what happens.

Great job on the weight loss for everyone so far over all :)  Like the way that is laid out, it shows the progress....

Rachel, hope you are having a good weekend.

Hey Kona, Sorry I haven't updated. So busy as I'm sure everyone else is! My current weight is 164. I do pretty well during the week and really struggle over the weekend . Moving in the right direction though! "hi" to everyone! Katie

Hey, I'm in, Ann.  I'm feeling really good with running right now -- 3 miles in yesterday, planning another outing today.  Where are we going?  Can't wait to get started!

Hey all :)  Got my run in today -- I mapped it online and did 3 miles yesterday and 2.7 miles today.  Wow!  I haven't run like that in almost 2 years!  My heel isn't complaining, though, so I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing.

Katie, I hear you on struggling on the weekend.  If I'm not busy, I tend to munch and munch and munch!  And forget all about the water.  Today I kept the nibbling down, though, so I'm pleased with that.

Ann, those burgers sound YUMMY!

Tina, hope you got caught up on the paperwork.  I do really well on that for awhile, then it starts piling up.  Oh well!

Welcome, kkmmom!  You definitely need to fill that void before your daughter leaves.  Got any hobbies you want to take up?

Kara, what is a wahoo for the iphone?  I'd really love to know if my calorie burn matches the machines I use in the morning.

Welcome, jimmeld.  Congrats on your loss so far!

OK, gonna brew some coffee and get the kids going on baths...

Rachel

Okay all:  I have created the 1st challenge.  (Previously I had created a challenge to walk to the moon but there were absolutely no takers so have just edited it, this is the name on the link, the challenge is named Around the World and numbered in order.)

http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/fitness/ walking-moon

I started with the 1st 4 countries because they are very small.

If you have any ideas or suggestions let me know.

This is a link to the next challenge, the 5th largest country.

http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/fitness/ around-world-challenge-fifth-largest-country

(So, am I the only one that didn't know the Vatican was a country?)

Great challenge, Ann!  I joined and am into the 3rd country of challenge #1 so far.  And that's just from this morning's workout!

Off work today -- a rare day off for me because hubby is working and the kids are in school!  I'm off to have lunch with a couple of girlfriends.  Have a fabulous day, all!

Rachel

Good morning, ladies! Did NOT do a long run this weekend and am kicking myself for it. Had baskin Robbins AND cocktails, too. My hubby has lost almost 15 pounds since Xmas, while I am gaining and losing and gaining the same 2. I am raging jealous. But I'm not giving up, I just need a serious kick in the ass.

Good run this morning, 4.32 miles and 500 calories. I'm off to a good start and no more feeling sorry for myself!! Kris

Morning all!

Rachel- glad to hear you heel is holding up well with all this running :)  My back just can't take it :(

Ann- sounds like a great challenge and no, I did not know the Vatican was a country!  Are you getting any snow down there?

mortwin- just keep trying, really bad here yest on the carbs :(  Once I get started I don't quit, so trying to avoid them altogether, back at it today.  At least I got in a good 60 min cardio workout yest, I do Turbo Fire for that.

Kris- it is agravating when men seem to lose so much easier than us girls :(  Hang in there!

Snowing pretty good here this morning.  Supposed to get 2-4 inches I hear.  Hair apt this afternoon in town, 20 miles away, so hoping it's not too bad.  At least I have 4 WD if I need it, just don't like driving on slick roads but my hair is driving me crazy and don't want to reschedule :(  Hubby took the three youngest kids with him last night, hauling iron, so just me and the oldest boy at home.  Got to sleep in until 9:30!

Rachel: Fun!  Enjoy your day off :D

Kris: Congrats on your run.  Yea, the whole men and losing weight thing is so annoying!  That's all right, he'll go bald and no diet will fix that.

Tina: got a few inches of snow last night.  Not so bad as they were predicting.

Katie:  I'm with you on the weekend munchies.  What's up with that?

Kara: You will be skiing past all those countries :D

Have to get out to walk today, but having a tough time motivating myself.  The sun is out and it's getting warmer so no excuse.  Have 4 books on CD to return to the Library so that's a good route.  That will get me past the Vatican, Monaco and into Nauru.  Out the door I go.

30 minutes of circuit training this morning, and my hubby actually congratulated me on my workout! Had a banquet after work last night, I did have one small piece of chocolate cake, more like a taste, the pieces were so small. I feel motivated today!! Rock on, ladies! Kris :)

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
