12 Pounds by Halloween

Quote  |  Reply

Let's try to lose 12 lbs by Halloween which is about 12 weeks from today.  I figure that we're all going to be tempted with Halloween candy by that day so we'll need it. Remember that counting calories and talking to knowledgeable and enthusiastic friends gives you the greatest chances of succeeding.

Weigh ins are on Fridays and will be in this format.

Goal Weight  148 lbs

Starting Weight: Aug 5  158 lbs

Here's something to help. It's fun, interesting and informative:  http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/10-things-you- need-to-know-about-losing-weight/

Healthmd - thanks for the reminder the strength training does the trick you burn more and it doesn't take much to build a little muscle and keep it.  I think that's doable I can start a quick strength training in the morning and not have to worry about leaving the house if I don't want to.

Nice work on the marathon, just that word scares me, glad  you enjoyed the experience and it kicked your scale in the correct direction.

Everyone keep up the good work.

This week's been all up and now finally back down - and a tiny loss, that's great Cool  Incredible how much I can "destroy" my results by eating 500-1000 above maintenance for three consecutive days! I know it's not fat weight, but still, it baffles me. Just have to keep that focus! And this group sure helps Smile

@rischelle - maybe even a better time to measure now, to really see that progress. And then you can share the good news next time around Wink  With your running I'm sure that percentage is going down along with your weight!

@dmp63 - Well done yourself!!! Laughing  Exercise is all about finding something you can do often and without having to drag yourself to do it. I've bought kettlebells, found some workout videos on YouTube (thanks again to Melkor who helped me find some useful ones!) and I work out in my living room when I get home from work (e.g. before my couch sucks me in and I don't get up before it's time to make dinner...). Just have to find YOUR thing!

@ryan52fishtacos - Let's dance on a weekly basis!!! Cool 30 minutes a day sounds like a good plan, mine is around there too - 15-45 minutes depending on my other plans. I'm sure you'll look good in those yoga shorts!

@healthmd - Join our Friday happy dance Cool

@lyntracy -  You've taken the first step and started, which is quite a big part. You'll get there - just give it a little time. When I got stuck, I had to adjust my lazy brain. If I had something to do, it was always such an effort to just do it, until I started thinking that if I do that right now I'd burn more kcals. Sounds stupid maybe, but it sure works. Motivating myself is my no. 1 goal in this process. Being stuck at the same weight for a period of time tells you at least one thing; this level is your maintenance level right now. Good luck getting past this Smile

Not bad, wasn't expecting a loss at all this week so I'll take it.

@Maurinah, I may try getting measured sooner - I just put in an application for a boxing gym and they have a personal trainer that tests your fitness before you start. - That should be interesting!

@healthmd, I will report back about the race for sure, I can't wait - should be a blast!

@dmp63, thanks! I would be OK with beating my goal

Happy Friday everybody!!!

Okay, I haven't really lost any but I haven't gained any either but this week, I've made a concerted effort to eat more moderately and to exercise...

Richelle, nice go.  You really should set a new goal as you're soon going to reach your final goal for this challenge.

Like you lawrence I'm even, which is not bad. Not perfect, but much better eating this week. Running was good too Not logging the calories though, pure lazyness...

dmp, thank you! Great that you're doing strength again and maurinha gave great tips on how to find new videos to keep it fun and interesting. Still not signed for a gym...might have to do it at home too for the time beeing.

Great job maurinah and rischelle! Going strong girls! :))

Keeping it which is good because I haven't done anything but add a small amount of exercise.  Whenever you start exercising again you realize how much you've lost.  But hopefully I'll get back into it more.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Ugh, no change. But I did just buy the smallest jeans I've ever owned in my adult life. Smallest ever. Maybe I should add measurements to my weigh ins.

And I know that muscle weighs more than fat but there is still fat that needs to go! I try to alternate my workouts between strength training and cardio. Any suggestions as to which is better for weight loss?

It seems I've hit a plateau?

SW: Gosh, I don't even remember anymore!

CW: 126(ish)?

GW: changed it to 117 lbs.

I feel I've been at this weight for...three weeks now? Oh well, no worries!

Kate, you'll be saying to us one day: "Hey, remember when I was 164 lbs?".

Ryan, we all have those periods. Remember that if you're starving yourself your body fights to hold onto as much as possible. I recall being quite diligent once last year and then not losing any weight for months....like I am now although I'm not nearly as diligent this year.

Thank you lawrence! That was the perfect thing to say. How did you know?!?! I should be saying to myself "Hey, remember when you were 210 lbs?" Hovering at 164 lbs for a month seems kinda petty in comparison.

@Lawrence
oh my, I think that could explain it.

Now that schooling has picked up and there's more work to do, there seems to be less time for me to actually keep track of what I'm eating.
Nowadays, instead of meals I'm just grabbing whatever's quick, as in granola bars and rice krispie treats. But I think I'll try to keep better track of what I'm eating now, I estimated up everything I ate today and it was only 800 cals!

I definitely don't want my body to starve itself, so I'm going to start paying more attention to it now.

Okay, it is decidedly more difficult to lose weight when my two sons are around as they're competitive swimmers and eat a lot of carbs. I keep working on eating smaller portions during that time.

Ryan, can't understand why Granola bars and rice krispie treats don't work effectively as diet food.......

I'm beginning to wonder if this is just a good enough weight for me I'm going to continue to monitor and if I continue the exercise I should see other results without the scale moving.

Good luck everyone enjoy the weekend.

Down one pound! Wow, I believe I may have found my groove.

New (big happy dance if reached) goal weight: 140 lbs.

I think that might be attainable if I continue on as I have. I also hope I didn't just jinx myself!!

Lawrence, that would be hard, carbs are my favorite and can add up fast. My kids are getting older and are not at home too much any more so luckily I have been able to be a bit selfish with looking after myself with food and exercise  lately. (now if I could get my hubby interested in eating with me and going for nice long runs...)

dmp63 - keep at it, loss isn't always what counts. How is the exercise coming?

Very surprised, went off track last weekend, but managed to recover during the week. I'll take it, it's been weeks without any progress. September turned out to be a good month, hope to continue the strick in October.

Have a great week all! :)

Ok, now we're headed in the right direction. However, the Halloween goal seems a little out of reach. Maybe shoot for 155 instead?

Rishcelle25 wish today was weigh-in day because I'm 104.5 let's see if I can keep it till Friday.  I haven't been exercising much except to walk the puppy which although I'm moving it doesn't exert too much energy maybe when she's a little older and can walk better. Only about 1 mile a day which I suppose is better then the no miles.

Everyone else seems to be moving in the right direction so keep it up.

I've been at 140 earlier in the week but there IS some loss Cool  Dancing a happy dance together with rischelle!

@dmp63 - If you're at a weight level that you can easily maintain, it might be just the level for you to stop Smile  If you work out, you'll tone and change your figure - the weight isn't the best way to measure. Try it out - see how it fits then? I've had this thought myself. But I lose a tiny little bit each week and I'm happy with that. I don't work out much so I don't exactly build muscle..

I'm going to keep on with what I'm doing now - cycling my kcals to whichever level that suits me for the day, swing a little with the kettlebells and walk (it's actually SUNNY here now!) and get motivated for the next challenge: finding my maintenance level when I reach my goal weight.
