Lifetime TV's "DietTribe"

Quote  |  Reply

Did anyone here watch Lifetime TV's 5-part series called "DietTribe"? It's about five girlfriends trying to lose 30 pounds each in 90 days. The basis is a 1500-calorie diet and workout program. The friends all support one another and of course there's a hunky trainer and trumped up drama. I'm so not into reality shows but I came across the first episode when channel surfing and then watched the rest online. If you saw it, what did you think? Was it over the top or inspiring?

I liked it becuase of the friendship factor. Other shows lump strangers together (who eventually become acquaintance but it's not the same thing as a best friend, ya know?) and it's ok, but not ultra special.

I liked it, more realistic than the biggest loser

They made a really big deal about the 30 pounds in 3 months. Yes, it's a good amount of weight, but all the women were well over 200, with one near 300. It didn't seem to me that an average of 2.5 pounds per week was extreme given those starting levels and their previous habits. I give them credit for their efforts, don't get me wrong. But with that kind of support system and personal trainer, it doesn't seem that challenging.

I thought it was strange that "eating clean" on the "diet" was often mentioned but there was never any detail, nor was there much focus on activities other than the big challenges (found the eating and workout plans online).  Guess it was intended to be all about the relationships, and that's probably why I don't much watch Lifetime. I would be curious to see where the ladies are at a year from now.
