Lose 5 Pounds With Us By St. Patrick's Day!! (No longer accepting new members for the challenge)

Quote  |  Reply

Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a hardcore calorie counter. I am a devoted gymaholic and a single mother and leader of the group "Holiday Losers" here on calorie count.

Our mission started with this Valentine's Day thread and as a group we decided to carry on and continue using holidays for our goals. Those who continue throughout the entire challenge to the last weigh in will be permitted to join the group "Holiday Losers". We do this to prevent post floods, inactive members, and the like.

If you'd like to join in on this challenge with us, please post here that you are participating before Sunday, February 21st. We are closing the group at that time so that we don't promote any unhealthy weight loss.

Our weigh ins will be as follows:

Start Weight Monday, February 22:

Weigh In Monday, March 1:

Weigh In Monday, March 8:

Weigh In Monday, March 15:

Total Pounds lost:

Please use the above format for all weigh-ins. Feel free to share recipes, add each other as friends, or message me if you have any questions. The purpose behind this is to create a wave of success stories, people working as a team toward a common goal.

Please follow the same courtesy rules as calorie count asks of you, anything not within the posting guidelines will be reported.

I was going to do my usual Monday weigh in then another on Wednesday.  Not that I think I could loss a pound in two days.  I don't have a digital scale so I'd assume Monday and Wednesday would be the same.  But I thought I'd stick to protocol and weigh Monday.  But since the challegne actually ends on Wednesday I'd try again then.

Plus I want corned beef and cabbage on Wed.  so I want to see I'm sticking to my weight and not gaining then I'll treat myself with a nice dinner and maybe even a beer.

I'm going along with DMP.....except I won't eat corned beef afterwards....

Sahily!  LOL!!!  Love the visual of you running away from the "crack pushers in pinafores" to quote a CC friend.

I have to admit, I was low on my calories yesterday...only about 700 which is UNHEARD of for me so I did indulge in 2 thin mints and 1 samoa for a snack.  They were good, but I am proud I was able to stop after 3 cookies!

Ok, so Monday and Wednesday...sounds good to me!

Dmp...oh, when you have 15 dollars to spare a digital scale will change your life!  Well, maybe not but it will help fuel you on because you do get to see when you've lost less than a pound.  And sometimes that .5 loss really keeps you going!

I also advise people to invest in a digital food scale.  Weighing and measuring my food was instrumental in my weight loss.  I never realized how skewed my portion sizes were!  Any other of you weigh your food before eating?

Laughing at the Girl Scout cookies.  Years ago I was a Girl Guide Leader (Canadian version of Scouts).  I ending up storing an entire garage worth of cookies until the Saturday start.  I don't know how many boxes of cookies I bought during those ten days.  I couldn't tell the kids we had no cookies.

I was just at a celiac restaurant on Tuesday " The Silly Yak"  It is so good and the bread is amazing.  While it sucks to not be able to digest gluten there are so many more options now then there used to be.  Still must be hard when you are in the field.

Good news for me.  As of this morning it looks like I can make my goal.  I just have to stay on track today.  I did well on Saturday. Weekends are always the worst.  The two extra days won't hurt either.

I also bought a scale but I wish I had purchased a digital scale instead of the scale I bought. I liked this scale because I could adjust the reading so that if I was weighing something in a bowl or the like, I could zero it with the bowl still on it and measure only the food. What I find though is I wished I had something that would measure down to the gram and I'd need a digital scale for that. My scale is really only accurate to about 10 grams and I would like to be able to measure to the gram because I tend to shave pieces of cheese to flavor various things and I have to guess how many grams of it I've used.

I was very surprised how little pasta is in one serving although I was able to determine this before I bought the scale. It does make it easier to determine my intake however so I'm glad I bought one.

I also bought a digital bathroom scale although I take my weight from my doctor's scale. I bought the digital scale because it has a body fat reading. My kids prefer this one although they only have 8 & 9% bodyfat respectively. Notice how I don't tell you my body fat reading.........

Bev, do you have celiac disease as well?  Canada always seems to be "up" on restaurants that cater to a certain dietary concern.  In the US our restaurants are too concerned with make money to serve a niche audience!

Lawrence...ha ha..I'm sure my body fat is triple yours and your kids combined!  As for the the digital food scale...mine zero's out and it does grams or ounces.  You put the bowl on it and hit "tear" then it goes back to zero.  Then I put my greek yogurt in, hit "tear"  again and then put in my granola.  It also totals up all the grams in between tears.  I think it was $29 on ebay.  It also is a postage scale...bonus!  It makes mailing holiday packages a breeze because I can do it all online...no PO Lines for me!

Today I had a little mini breakdown and ate 1/4 of my daughter's coffee cake muffin from dunkin donuts only to find out that ONE muffin has 500 calories!!!!  R U Kidding?  No wonder AMERICA is so FAT!  America Runs on Dunkins and they are sneaking 500 calories into a MUFFIN!

It has been way to long since I have been on the computer.

Sarah, I hope you get better real soon.

Hope everyone has been doing great. I have been real busy and will explain later...lol.

Weigh in is Wed! See you then.

Look forward to our new challenge starting with the org crew! Talk to you all then!

"Crack pushers in pinafores" LOL! Wow that really made me laugh!

I LOVE my digital food scale I had an analog one until about the time when this challenge started but the digital one is sooo much better and it has the tare thing too so that works out lovely and yeah I weigh everything! Even though I've gotten pretty good at portions the scale is so cool I just have to weigh everything lol and I love the digital bathroom scale I bought too (Except it weighs me 4 pounds heavier than my analog one... I don't love that part) I'm just finishing this challenge with the analog one and starting the next on the digital...

I don't know my body fat reading... It's never been measured... Not sure I WANT to know though lol

Lawrence, please send Sarah all the best from me for a speedy recovery, apologies for a slack in responding over the past week, it's all been a bit hectic and as a result I've seen myself turning to food (and not the gym) to help :( Unfortunately this means that at the moment I'm not on target - although there's still 2 days before St Pats, but due to my bad week my results have suffered;

Start Weight Monday, February 22: 149.6lbs

Weigh In Monday, March 1: 147.4

Weigh In Monday, March 8: 145.6

Weigh In Monday, March 15: 146.2

Total Pounds lost 3.4

Is it possible to lose 1.6lbs in a couple of days - I'm going back to the gym every day this week and have made H2B throw out all of the chocolate and bad things I bought for the house!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, i was so happy with my progress and now I'm so disappointed in myself for letting my concentration and motivation slip :(

Hope you've all done well. Congrats to anyone who has hit the 5lbs target. This group has been great!

There's no way I'll make 5 but I'm very happy with my 3. Wasn't sure I'd make it because yesterday I had a mini cannoli and a piece of crumb cake.

Thank you!

Neversettle! It is so good to hear from you! I have missed you. Keep up the good work. I'll bet you can't wait to get back.

I too have had to dodge the girl scout cookies. Soo hard! At least they haven't been to my house. (Not yet, anyway)

Wow! I'm almost afraid to weigh again on St. Patricks Day incase the #'s go back up!

As of Jan 3 (Start date of our first challenge) I have lost 13lbs! I needed to remind myself of that because it has felt slow going lately. But when I look at the big picture, I can see success. I am wearing the same size of clothing, but I no longer look like a stuffed sausage in them!

Great, usually, I have to follow Sahilly who always posts those big numbers but this week, I have to follow the Phoenix who also posted those big numbers. Now I know how those people on the Biggest Loser feel when they've lost nothing and are sandwiched between two people who have lost big numbers that week.

I actually was down two pounds on Friday but then my family had the saltiest Indian food ever and I drank lots and lots of water and wine and have been heavier ever since.

x-lawrence what does that mean 1.22 on the trend line?  Your only up by a little and it'll probably go away by the time you log on Wed. Keep drinking that water.  Forget the wine.

Dmp,  the trend line is a moving average and thus probably gives a more accurate representation of your weight...hopefully, in my case anyway as it's actually lower than my scale weight......

Forget the wine? You used to be so much fun.......

I can't believe it!!!!  I Did It!!!

Weigh In Monday, March 15: 188.8

YEehaw!!!!  I've been working my butt off...eating well and exercising 6 days a week!  I'm so happy to be in the 180's again!

Since Jan 1 I've lost 18lbs!!!!

Good for you jodiferjuniper, 18 lbs is amazing.

I've been averaging 1 lb a week so I'm two weeks off from the 5 lb challenge which of course means I won't meet this challenge but I'm happy I'm still losing and staying on track.

Lawrence, I love a good glass of wine it's one of the things that got me into the weight predicament to begin with.

Start weight Monday, Feb. 22nd: 172

Weigh in Monday, March 1st: 170.5

Weigh in Monday, March 8th: 169.5

Weigh in Monday, March 15th: 167

Total pounds lost: 5

Bernardo,  Great job on getting the scale moving in the right direction again.

Sam , I bet you can get a lot closer to the 5 pounds in two days since you gained this past week.  It may just be water that will be gone by Wednesday.

Jean and Jodi, great news on the loses.  I am with you that I almost want to  skip weighing on Wednesday but this will sure keep me accountable whick is what I need.  I love this group.  I read the posts first thing in the morning and when I get home from work.  I started our January challenge at 186.5 so that is 19.5 pounds with this group.  I lost a few pounds before the challenge so that is over 20 pounds this year.  I couldn't have done it without this group so thanks everyone.

Bev
