MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)

Quote  |  Reply

RANTING BURNS CALORIES!

This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...

* * *

I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.

I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....

I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!

Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?

Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:

1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.

AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

What great responses!!!

So far, it appears I am the only person with a colored-sock fetish, lol! While I do own white socks, I try to wear colored ones whenever I can ... how's THAT for weird?

I don't think it's weird, but then I only wear the white socks when all the other ones are in the wash or traveling!  That way, if I can "loose" them and it won't matter!

I have 1.2 funky kinda stripey green socks!   They are the March Rocking Sock Club socks.  Ok, I swear I will finish the second sock!  I just need to finish something for a gift first!  No SSS (second sock syndrome) here!  They will be done and on my feet before the end of the month!  Besides, they have to be done so I'm ready for the May shipment! And yes, the January ones are done -- they're a redish orange with a burnt red and cream spiral stripe!

Molly, if you knit socks, it opens up all sorts of options for funky socks!  I have 7 pairs completed for myself, 2 pairs in progress and 1 pair in progress for my mom.  No pair is blah!  If you want to check out sock colors possibilities, check out www.bluemoonfiberarts.com.  That's were my sock club membership is from!

We took some photos this morning with the built-in camera in my wonderful DH's Mac .... so here you go! (brace yourselves!)

Me in my green dress

Me wearing my glasses

Me n' McIntosh

Me n' Minnie Dog

Me n' my cute fighter pilot

Another one of me n' my wonderful DH

Another one of me

Molly, I just had to de-lurk when I read your post about shorts for your Alaska Cruise.  I went on an Alaska cruise in August a few years ago and some of the time you needed heavy coats, stocking hats and gloves.  That was for watching the glaciers, ice you know gives off a fair amount of cold air.  You'll enjoy your trip, you can't take your bike, but you can walk around the deck of the ship, I forget how many circuits it was for a mile, but the company and the views are great!  Find some whales for me, I didn't get to see one, though others did.

Molly:  I loved your pics, you and you DH are so cute.  I hope you have so much fun on your cruise.

Now I must rant:  I am also getting ready for vacation, we are going to Disney world and Daytona Beach for a a little over a week.  I wanted some new capris to wear on my trip and almost lost my mind in the store when trying them on.  The pair I tried on fit in the hip area but were about 4 to 5 inches to big around the waist and if I got them to fit in the waist they definitely wouldn't fit in the hips.  Who is making this crazy clothing anyway and what kind of shape would you have to have to wear this stuff.  I thought for a second maybe the capris were hipsters and I had them pulled up to far but by pulling them down they looked really funny.  As my grandmother would say I looked like a coal miner and had slack in my pants.  No offense to coal miners my grandfather was one.  Anyway now I'll have to go to one of the big mall stores to look for something and pay twice the price for it and it still probably won't fit the way I want it too.  I guess I could make some for myself but they would definitely be indecent since I don't know how to sew very well.

Good luck to all as you shop.  I decided to buy some shoes instead.

Shoes ... I love new shoes!!!

Happy Sunday to you .... Happy Sunday to you..... Happy Sunday, fellow ranters .... Happy Sunday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!

I biked 4.5 miles this morning and I took Minnie Dog for a bark walk around the block.... what fun. Soon I will grab lunch, and find some other ways to burn some calories.

MOLLY  (I wonder if Mr. Scale misses me?)

Ophelia, I hear you.  I have boobs and hips.  Yes, I look like an ADULT female. Could the clothes please be made to fit women with curves.   I can find shirts that fit my boobs, shirts that fit my center, but never shirts that fit both.  If I get something that my chest fits in, it is a tent down to the bottom.  If I get it to fit the middle, then I am busting out. (pun intended)

Today's rant - my husband is ALWAYS telling me how he would like me to work out with him.  "You should weight train with me."  "You know, you would do better if you did weight training too."  Blah blah blah.  So, feeling like we should spend a little extra time together this weekend, I say "hey hon, how about we do that weight training today.  You can show me how to do all those 'cool' exercises".   I even say, "hey, why don't we do that in about an hour".  HE SKIPS OUT ON ME!!   All that bull about wanting to train with me, I give in (cause he is brutal to work out with), and then he backs out.  Well, phooey.

Sort of like the dh who says "lets go for a walk"   and then he walks a block ahead of you.   Sometimes I just want to take a wrong turn and see if he misses me at all.

Heh, I do that! (Hide when he gets too far ahead of me!)

Wake up everybody! It's MONDAY!!!

Sorry, I'm not that thrilled about it either. [Yawn.]  It was a long weekend (seemingly) with no time off for me. I think I may need to take off an afternoon during the week to do SOMETHING fun. Or at least productive for myself...the house is a fright!

I have so many projects to finish around the house! I can't wait until next Saturday is over (end of tax season). It will be the last day for the year that I work on my second job. The pay is so lousy that I hardly notice it --just gets absorbed by the kids! I do notice the time though.  I only did it so that I would learn more about taxes generally. Clergy taxes are rather tedious and expensive to have done by someone else. My theory is that if I learn to do them, I can not only do ours but perhaps do them for other clergy in the future. That could be especially useful when we move to another church. I'm afraid I may be getting a little long in the tooth for lab jobs. We'll see how my theory works out.

Wake up, Molly!!!! Laughing

Should I drag my Terrible Banjo playin' out of the Going for Gold Thread, and bring it over here...??? SurprisedWink

* shudders! *

Hate ta' do THAT ta' ANYBODY...!!! Lol!!! SurprisedWink

How is it that it has taken me so long to find this place.  I love it here!  Thank you Molly for creating a place on CC with real adult posters!! Whooo hoooo!

Thanks also to HK for poining me here.

I will begin my journy with y'all by responding to the "buying stuff for vacation" problems which I am going through now.  I have discovered resale shopping.  Yes, as I have taken a vow of "non-consumerism" this year I have vowed to significantly reduce the amount of new stuff I buy so I went to see if I could find some capris and/or jeans and maybe a top or two.

When you can get past the smell (and yes there is a weird smell at resale shops, not that stinky but distinct nontheless) and set your mind on digging through a lot of stuff you can find diamonds in the ruff.  And the best part is, it's all already broken in!! This pair of jeans I found, they fit like a glove.  Now they are probably form like 5 years ago but hey, I'm no slave to fashion.  Beware, ask if there is a changing room.  I spent 1/2 hour picking out some stuff to try on only to find that this was not an option UGH.

Happy Monday! T minus 4.5 days till Costa Rica!! Ay Ay Ay

Chris-- Can you actually die laughing...??? Surprised

Shouldn't you place 'Warning! Danger!' banners in your profile, if Laughing too hard is Highly Hazardous to your Health and even Sanity...??? Surprised

Now my poor brain is 'all twisted up in knots...'! Surprised

Monday's are difficult enough, ya' know...! YellWink

ALL because of your Frightening 'Bread Statistics!' SurprisedSurprisedSurprised

I'll NEVER be able to look at bread the same...! Cry

Thanks...??? Lol!!! Very well done! WinkLaughing

Catching on, slowly but surely.

Chris, just read the bread stats, hilarious because I was just looking at my favorite bread baking cookbook at all the lovely, silky, delicious bread recipes thinking, I may never have any of these again!  WHAAAAA  Thank you for reiterating that scarey, sad and depressing thought.

BTW, the book has ONE whole wheat recipe.  All others start with white, extra gluten, fully processed, already been chewed, flour. Again I say WHAAAA

It's official ... THIS is what I look lik!!! .... I must give up my lifelong dream of becoming a nudist. As people around the world give a HUGE sigh of relief (especially my neighbors), I am finding it increasingly dismaying to look a lot like an inflated pool toy that's s-l-o-w-l-y losing its air.... or a helium baloon the morning after a big party. Yep, I've got it ... saggy skin ... soon to be known in the Diet World as "Sharpei Syndrome." (OK, OK, I just made that up ... since I was trying to think of something cute, endearing and wrinkly!) I think part of the problem is that I'm over 40, and my skin is a lot like pantyhose that have lost their "sproing" .... it just doesn't seem to bounce back the way it would if I were in my 20s. Then again, in my 20s, it had a lot less of ME to bounce back FROM, lol! And yes, I am drinking LOTS of water and yes, I am using lots of lotion and moisturizer and yes I am taking vitamins and supplements.... I just weigh 92 pounds less than I used to and my outsides aren't shrinking as fast as my insides, ya know?  Fortunately, I try to go out in public fully clothed, so the wrinkliest parts don't really show .... but they still are bothering me a bit this otherwise sunny Monday morning.  Good thing Sharpei puppies are cute, huh?

I bought six pairs of socks yesterday ... pink, purple, aqua, and three pairs of white with a small colored band around the ankle (lime green and orange!). I now feel more properly accessorized. We Sharpeis like to be sharply dressed, ya know? Now if I go and get some matching permanent markers, I could be a sharply dressed Sharpei with a Sharpie.  Of course, I am not wearing my new socks today ... I went with light blue socks, light blue shorts, and a light blue and white tank top ... guess I was feeling blue this morning.  Oh well, at least I match, right?  I ended up only biking 4.5 miles yesterday, plus another 50 calories' worth on the recumbant bike, since we opted to go feed the ducks after dinner and watch the sunset rather than zip around on our bikes.

Speaking of biking, I need to get some biking in this week since the scale continues to move in the WRONG direction. (Yep, I found the hidden scale and made the world-class mistake of stepping on it.) I am trying not to be depressed, but how the heck did I gain 2.5 pounds this week? It's not TOM, it's not PMS, and I didn't run amuck in the salt flats. Yes, I know I increased my calories 400 per day, but 400 x 7 = 2800 and can't possibly result in a GAIN, especially with all the darn biking I'm doing. I know, I know, I know, it's just water and my body is just adjusting to all the increased exercise and the change in my meds ... but could it just get over this darn adjustment phase and go back to LOSING!? That would be so much better.  Of course, though the scale is NOT COOPERATING, I do feel really good right now and my wonderful DH assures me that I look thinner .... so I guess that's what's really important.  And, yes, I am staying on track with healthy eating.... even though some days I feel like a hamster on the wheel, running for food!!!

Dinner tonight is shrimp, oyster mushrooms, broccoli -- probably in a stir fry, plus a salad of cucumber, radishes, tomatoes and cottage cheese.  Lunch today is egg white salad, cottage cheese, a blueberry fiber cake, grape tomatoes, almonds and an apple.  I am eating egg whites twice a day and cottage cheese at least once a day (on top of tuna for breakfast) .... and think I am getting pretty tired of all this lean protein. I just don't know how people on Atkins do this!  Anyway, the high fiber, high protein multigrain bagels I ordered (140 calories, 9g fiber, 18g protein, 10 net carbs) will be here on Wednesday ... yay! Something new for lunches! Something new for lunches!!!

Looks like somebody has gotten over her cottagecheeseophobia!  I did the same thing.  I was totally suspicious of it, then once I figured out that it wasn't that bad, I started eating it all the time.

My latest cottage cheese creation was a "burrito" made from a little brown rice, some cottage cheese, black beans, pico de gallo, and tomatoes wrapped in romaine leaves.  MMmmmm.  It almost got rid of my craving for a Chipotle veggie burrito.

Sorry you had a sucky weigh-in.  The weight fairy might have still been at my house.  I had to slap her (and the scale) around a little, but I finally got them to admit that my mini-plateau is over.  I'll see if she's still in the bathroom and send her in your direction.

Happy Monday everybody!

Sharpeis are adorable!  Be proud of the excess skin.  It shows how far you have shrunk!  Consider it a trophy of your hard work.   Ok, so you probably won't, but you could.  Smile

Please, Molly, please, please, please be sure to post your review of the bagels.  I have been on a search and put in a request at Publix for them to carry the Western Alternative Bagels since X17star17X mentioned them in her journal and I can't wait to hear what y'all think of them!  Wednesday can't get here fast enough!

Karen

hey molly,

recently read somewhere that the skin does usually come back but it might take a year or so, yo u need to be patient probably...
