Plateau? Lets break it together!

Quote  |  Reply

I have reached a plateau since beginning this diet in January - I started at 171 lbs and i am now hovering between 150-152 and i am 5'5".

I definately need some motivation to get over this hump. Who wants to join me???

I have 15 lbs more to go, and I can not wait to rid myself of them.

Let's share our strategies and support - weigh in once a week on fridays and blow our plateaus to shreds!

Anyone Game?

Anyone?

I'm with you!  I started in the middle of Feb at 176.  After counting every bite of every thing I got down to 146.6 BUT.....For most of the month it has been bouncing between 146.6 and 151.2  I'll go down a few days then it starts climbing up, then down YKWIM.  I'm sure a lot of it is water.  I'm still counting the low weight LOL  The first 20lbs seemed so easy.  The next 5lbs were slower.  But come on I still would like to 125 (Then maybe 130)

I know I need to exercise more and I've been eating around 12- 1300 cals a day for so long I need to shake it up.  I'm going to start zig- zagging cals today and see if this does anything for me.

This seems to be a good site.

Feel free to message me any time.

I'll try! I started at 197 and I'm hovering around 173, can't seem to get my eating habits back on track, so any motivation/bitch slapping would be appreciated :)

Yay! I am not alone!

After i hit my plateau i kinda de-railed. Lost motivation... This week i am dedicated to ramping it back up and getting myself back together.

I am up 3lbs from my lowest weight as of today. Grrr.

I agree - the first 15-20 lbs was easy, now that i have 15 left, i can't make the scale move to save my life.

I might try the zig-zagging, though i finally purchased Jillian Michael's Making the Cut on amazon... I should get it friday- Looking forward to see what kind of butt kicking she has in store.

I go to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays and do 50 minutes of hard core cardio - listed the workout in one of my journals if you are interested in checking it out. Its a great workout. Burns about 450-500 calories.

Holy moly, that's quite the workout! You've only 15 to go? I'm not surprised, with a regime like that. I don't really have a regular workout, I just go to the gym whenever I'm in college (I'm a grad student) and walk/jog for at least 20 mins and at most 66 (the number's a coincidence, honest :))

I've never tried the whole work out dvd thing, I think I would never ever use them, or the motivation that I had for doing them would disappear as soon as I got them through the door.

No matter what though, I am bloody well going to kick this weight's ASS! I'll keep poking you to make sure you do too :)

(don't let me have chocolate!)

Does it count as a plateau if you haven't started losing, despite lowering calories, eating better foods, AND increasing workouts?   I am stuck.  I am stuck, stuck, stuck.   The scale dropped to 167 and I almost colapsed with joy.  Now, right back to 170.

I don't descriminate love, in fact, i FEEL your pain.

I was totally gung ho with workout videos when i started, now they just don't do it for me....

I had a good workout today, Ate great and have a good deficit to show for it... Hopefully i see some difference on the scale tomorrow... I do know that this morning i was at 153 and i just weighed when i got home and it was at 152... If i can just get it be back at my low (or lower) i will jump for joy.... Repeatedly.

I have been stuck for 5-6 months now.  Lost 30 pounds and now do battle up and down two pounds.  I still need to lose another 30 at least and while I work out hard three days a week, and walk 3 other days a week, I AM STUCK.  I do not want to just chalk it up to menopause and stay here,  I want/need to lose more.  I think one thing I need to revisit is accurate calculations of food I am eating.

=[ ive been stuck at 140.

ate well today.  Completed Day 4 of Making the Cut and 20 min of sprint intervals.  I have a bout 1000 cal. deficit today.  That is supposed to work, right?

i'm in!

I started(this time) at 177. Got to 162.5. now I bounce from 163-165. SO FRUSTRATING!!! I want to get to 152. Been about 15 years since I've seen numbers like that! I'll decide from there if I want to lose more.

I run. I love it. I just ran 10km 2 days ago(first time I've made it that far) but I only get out to run 2 or 3 times a week. I'm a single mom of 3. Chasing them all the time the weight should be falling off. Undecided

immom, not to quote every other post on all the other boards here, but are you eating enough to support all that energy expended? I know what it's like chasing kids around (I help my mother with two toddlers that she minds, whenever I'm working from home) and even that brief period shows exactly how much work it is! I sure hope your profile is set to very active!

I'm on a plateau as well. Ride the stationary bike every morning and typically do Jillian's "Making the Cut" as well. Weekends are really difficult for me, so I'm wondering if the scale isn't moving because I'm not consistant throughout the week. I agree with all of you who said the first 15-20 were easier than the next five. I've lost 20 and I've got about 30 to go... I was really hoping to be farther along than I am, but I am very pleased with the way my body is shaping up with all the exercise. I feel good in my clothes. I've dropped from a size 18 to a size 10/12. I could use some advice from those of you who are in the same situation or have just jumped off the edges of your plateaus!

Karinhenn - Good for you for feeling good in your clothes. Thats a super important step to take! You've made some awesome progress!

Immom - I love to run. I don't know what it is about it that i love so much, but its just great... All my stress just melts away, I run at least 3 times a week after work and then try to get a run in on sat or sundays (or both if possible.)

I'm feeling good today. When i got home i was only .6lbs up from my lowest point. I am so close to posting a loss this week, i will cry if the scale goes back up again!

had a good day today.  It was Let's-get-fast-food-day at work.  BUT, I talked my co-workers out of McDonalds and into TacoBell so I could get a Fresco Chicken Bowl (490 cal).  Then, since it was a late work night we went out for dinner.  YYikes!!  Two meals out in one day.  Never fear, I suggested Mongolian Bar-b-q which everyone loves.  I had a seafood stirfry.  I even managed to pass on dessert while my co-workers had the goo-iest, most fabulous looking chocolaty goodness.  Nope,  I drank my diet coke and then popped a piece of gum.   If I passed up chololatey goodness and still don't see a drop in the scale . . .

Hey ladies. How was everyones day? Mine went surprisingly well. I worked this morning, took the kids shopping and then took them swimming at my parents house after dinner. Pool was just filled. The water is freezing but the kids didn't care. My running babysitter comes tomorrow(he comes after school 2X a week). He's only here for an hour so I won't be running 10km. Should be able to go 8.

I saw 162.5 on the scale again this morning. 2nd time I've seen it. Just got off my elliptical. gotta go shower.

I had a good day diet wise, at work, I killed the computers and spent the day fixing them.  I am going to try that link posted earlier about cycling calories so today I still have a few more to eat.

I did fantastically well yesterday, til about 8pm. I did great exercise (I managed to jog for 20 mins for the first time ever! Longest I'd lasted before then was about 6 mins!) and had spread my calories out really well.

Then came temptation. I had dinner out, which was fine, I had loads of calories left for it so I knew I'd be ok. Only problem was that I craved dessert, and gave into the cravings. A slice of apple and blackberry pie AND 2/3s of a vanilla malt. I knew I was sabotaging myself even as I ate, hence not finishing the malt (that and being aware that I was full, which is definitely progress), and I am so annoyed at the fact that I always do this.

I know that what I ate is more than likely still going to give me a deficit of ~200, but if I am serious about breaking the plateau, 200 ain't gonna help. What's worse is, I've got nights out planned for the next 4 days! But so help me God, I am not going to keep this weight, and I am not going to increase it. Positive mental attitude's half the battle, right? :)

Lovetohate, are you Irish? We have Mongolian BBQ here and I didn't think it was a chain. My meal out tonight is in there, and I'm wondering what's the best sauce to go with on the stir fry. Thank goodness for the great selection of veg, it's so easy to fill up on that stuff!

Not techinically Irish, but was raised in an Irish household thanks to my stepfather.  Why do you ask?

Mongolian BarBQ here is a chain.  They are great.  I used a ginger sauce.  I grabbed one of the ginger dressing counts from CC in order to log it.  Even if it isn't exact, I am sure it was close.   Goodluck, and enjoy a heaping bowl of grilled veggies.  Seafood is fairly low cal too, if you enjoy that.

I live in Ireland (and am Irish), was just wondering if you actually went to the one I'm going to tonight. If so, you'd know what's the best sauce to take! I think I usually take the sweet and sour, or something with honey, can't think what it is. Any suggestions on what to avoid?

For possibly the first time ever, grilled veg (without meat) is sounding pretty damned tasty for dinner!
