Walking Off the Weight 2

Quote  |  Reply
Hello all!

I credit my taking up walking, in conjuction with the awesome cc, with my weight loss success thus far this summer..... I know there are many others out there, walking away the pounds, the stress, the stuff in life that needs to be sweated out, so join us here! We had discussions in WOTW1 from where we liked to walk to how to improve the walking work out after it had gotten too easy, blisters and bras, to how to get the SO to come along with you, so if it's related to walking, it can go here! ( :

Just FYI, but I think I am offically a "wogger" now -- I almost can't say that word without laughing (credit Jess who found it). So let's say walkers, wanna be walkers who need encouragement, woggers, even joggers if they promise not to make fun! =P Hope to see allmy old friends here + and a lot of new ones too!

So---Rock on with your walkin', girls and boys!    --Olivia

Hey ladies,

I have been stuck in the bed... all day yesterday I have a pinched nerve in my back (3weeks ago I went to great adventure amusement park and rode ALL the roller coasters) guess I am too old for that now :) and my back has been on/off since then. I had to get up yesterday to go to dinner at my inlaws I was pretty good with the food and even walked a little there. Today I went shopping for my sons b'day party coming up this weekend and I could walk that fast but walked at least a mile. Not feeling very productive but tommorrows a new day! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Southfork- I would love to meet up sometime I could use a partner my hubby has been promising me for weeks now.

I would love to get an exercise ball but will it put pressure on my back? Also I have no coordination and am very clumsy is it easy to use?
It's still hot at 6:00 drove through town and the bank said it was still 97!!! I have to walk tonight or at least do my 4 mile tape, I have been so lazy this weekend, but today my eating has been back in line and the one thing my body told me is that it didn't like what I put in it this weekend, I have been in the bathroom all day!!!!

No major event that caused me to eat, my husband had went to the lake with some friends so one of the guys wife and I got together with our daughters and just hung out.  So we were lazy and ate, but that's all over now so back on track.

We have 2 acres that I walk around, I did got to the track a couple days last week, and the gym in town doesn't have good hours, guess that's what I get for a small country town, I live in Wynne Arkansas about an hour from Memphis Tennessee.

Thanks for the link ot the recipe I'm going to make some for my lunches.  Rachelrobin, I can't believe you get 10 miles in each day that's just wonderful and here I'm happy with 30 - 45 minutes!!!!!

Good luck with everyone's week.
amaresmom---hope your back feels better soon!  I am the Clutz Queen and I found the fitness ball an awesome workout that's fun and sort of silly, easy to change up so you don;t get bored, etc. Cheap too.  I actually use my ball to stretch my back when it feels stiff, so I think be careful, of course, but go for it.  I do hold onto the endge of a table lightly for some of the moves that feel less stable to me---I don't need carpet burn on my face.... =P  lol

I think your girls day break sounds divinely relaxing, srogers!  Sometimes one just must rest.  ( :  How long does a 4 mile walking tape take to do?  I don't know if I could get into walking in place....  Never really tried though.   I sure wish I had some of my own outdoor land to walk and explore like some of you girls.  I'm in a small town too----nothing wrong with that. ( :  Hope you like the soup--- it is so easy and versatile. You could literally throw anything you had in the fridge into the crockpot and it would turn out ok!  I like to use up all my leftovers that way 'cause the bf was spoiled by mom that leftovers were beneath him (unless it's in a delivery pizza box =P ) lol
thank olivia I will look into the ball this week my bike is soo boring. And my living room is small so if I do my exercise vids there I am all over the place literally. I just checked out the recipe and will try it.

Meg good to hear you got your walk on! Good luck with those pictures I am not savvy enough to help.... you are also on my mommies board.
Yeah I am just noticing good luck on the weigh in tomm.

Rachel - 10 miles you go girl!

Yes, I'd say I am burning at least 1000 calories, even more, as I walk on an uneven trail, with some incline too.  Today it's rather windy and hot, so I'm only going to get in about 6 miles it looks like.  I just can't walk when it gets above 90, I literally drag, and don't really benefit from walking when I move so slow.

Amaresmom,

Exercise balls are so much fun!  I'm not very coordinated and I can do the exercises.  I have problems with my back and my physical therapist has me doing ball exercises.  They are great for strengthening the muscles in your back.  There are some good ball exercise books available too.
Hooray for me...I met the weekend challenge! Sat's walk helped my back get untwisted, but I had dinner with friends, and what was supposed to be steak BBQ turned into cold cuts & cheese platter with rolls and potato salads! I blew it with the cheese, one of my trigger foods! But, not letting it get me down, back on track today.

Yesterday we drove 2.5 hrs to go see another motorhome for sale...and this one was so right we bought it! We'd left our place at 7:30 AM so hadn't had my morning walk, and after dinner out (half of it came with me to work today for lunch) I decided to take a walk because there were so many little ones in the hotel pool. Luckily I found a park just 2 blocks from the hotel, and had a lovely 30 min walk!

Haven't charted my calories, surely I went over on the weekend, but I know I've downsized my portions and am more conscious of heavy carbs and fats. Back to normal routine tomorrow AM (had to drive back 2.5 hrs this AM to get to work!) Sure am looking forwad to my morning walk!

Hello fellow walkers!

I'm back from our weekend camping excursion and happy to be home. We did have a great time and while I didn't always eat healthfully (did I mention that Mackinac Island is famous for the fudge? Oh, and Ice Cream shops are prevalent as well), neither did I throw all caution to the wind. Sure did get in a LOT of exercise! We rented bikes and rode around the perimeter of the island (I was told it is 9 miles), which took about 2 hours at a pretty steady pace with only two short breaks. Then we proceeded to walk up a hill to the Grand Hotel, then back down and then up an even steeper hill to the Governor's summer residence (whew! I get winded just thinking about it!) and THEN hiked a mile past Fort Mackinac and through the woods to Arch Rock. I posted some photos in my gallery so I could share the experience with my cc friends. By the end of the day my pedometer showed 7 miles and that doesn't count the biking!

I also posted some pics of two of my dogs as well (there are two pictures of Owen, one when he was just a tiny baby, because he was so darn cute!).

Gosh, I feel like I missed out on lots of conversation here while I was gone!  It took me awhile to read all the posts I missed just to catch up!   Well, I had better get up and go to the grocery store(s) or we won't be having a healthy dinner tonight!

Enjoy your walks everyone!

Wendy

Wendy,

I am so proud of you I thought you were going to come back with a sob story instead you came back a success. I hope after my cruise at the end of the month i can say I got as much exercise as you did and have at least one line be about the food like you had and not the whole blog. I thank you for the inspiration because I have been stressing vacation because of all the free food! Free and food should never be in the same sentence for me:)

Thanks, Mom!  Oooo...a cruise! How exciting! But you're right, it will definitely be challenging with all that available food.   If you keep yourself busy it might not be such a huge temptation.  I kept asking myself before making any food choices if the unhealthy items would really be worth it.  In the end, I found that taking my time in choosing what to eat, I often found a reasonably healthy alternative to the high calorie choices and everything I ordered when eating out was still delicious!  For lunch on Saturday I had a black bean and lentil quesadilla (sp?).  The cheese might have been high in fat, but the fiber in all the beans made me proud of myself in making that choice.  Of course, the proof will be in the pudding when I weigh myself on Wednesday.  My goal was to not gain any weight, rather than stress out about losing any.
Hi,

I finally had a bad day, the first in quite a while, lol.  Quite a stressful one.  My little Poodle was spayed today, and it was quite nerve-wracking for me.  She's so little, just four lbs.  But she pulled through ok.  I couldn't sleep at all last night for worrying about today.  I waited by the phone for the Vet to call and let me know how she was.  He wasn't very speedy either.  I didn't dare go for any walks for fear I'd miss his call.

It is horribly smokey here today from all the fires.  Everyone is complaining about the air.  It's burning eyes and causing raw throats.  Sure hope they get these fires put out soon.  I need to earnestly pray for some rain I guess.  I've only eaten about 1200 calories, but no exercise at all. I feel awful sluggish.  I'm headed outside right now, and am going to try to get an hour walk in at least.  Then tomorrow I'll jump right back in and do my ten miles again, once I get my baby home from the Vet.  :)

Rachel
I was able to get 45 minutes in walking tonight at the track, I think I'd rather walk at home but a friend wants to walk and is just starting out and so I go, her speed has picked up so that's a plus for me, I can always come home and do a little more.

Olivia I think the 4 mile tapes takes about 45 minutes, I think, you walk in place, side step, kicks, and a couple other different moves and you also work your upper body, it was a huge help.  I can't wait to try the soup, going to make some this weekend.

I got rid of my exercise ball just because I didn't know what to do with it, so I guess I need to invest in another one!!

Rachel I'm still in awe of your 10 miles, I just don't even know what to say:) I had 2 poodles when I was in high school, one of my favorite dogs!!!

Amaresmom hope your back is feeling better, when we went on vacation my husband hurt his neck on a roller coaster, he's been at the chiropractor this week!!! Let us know all about your cruise, I would love to go on one, think of me while living it up!!!

Kris- You did wonderful, way to go you went out of the way to be able to exercise and that speaks volumes!!!!

Wlmich- oh my Mackinac Island, went there with my mom and dad when I was right out of high school and I swear I can still smell the fudge, it was so good and I still remember the hill to the hotel, bless you for doing the bike ride, you were better than me:)  I would love to go back.

Hoping to make it 45 minutes every night this week if not longer.
I'm suffering the consequences of my bad eating, especially the cheese, over the weekend. Feeling bloated and lethargic. But I got out for my walk this morning despite that. Only 40 minutes, and pace not quite up to par, but something is definitely better than nothing. And I refuse to give up, especially after reading all your inspiring posts!
hello fellow walkers, just popping in quickly.   Our computer has been down since last week sometime when some major storms went through the area, talk about withdrawal  : -0

my walking has been somewhat lax the last two weeks, sooo much going on in the evenings and weekends, weddings, fairs, concerts.......   hopefully I can get back on track this week, started yesterday with 3 miles of wogging.....

gotta  run talk later!
Despite the fact I only ate about 1200 calories yesterday and less than 15 grams of fat, my scale was up 3 lousy lbs today.  I shouldn't have weighed, I try to do that on Sunday only. So I stood in front of the mirror, simply emthralled at the inches that have literally melted away from all this walking!  I felt better, despite what the scale said.  :)  But oh do I have inches and pounds to go.  15 lbs at least, and several inches!

I did get an hour walk in last night, so that's good.  So far today, I've walked my first 35 minute session.   My little dog is home and happy, so very happy to be home!  Hard to believe she was spayed at all.

I'm feeling better so I've eaten ok so far today.  Two cups of Dole Baby Spinach with 1/4 cup of Kraft Mexican Crumbles rolled up in the leaves.  Mmmm  good!  I even got out the measuring cup to be sure I only took 1/4 cup of cheese from the bag!  I've had a banana also. Then I did treat myself to a 100 calorie Breyer's Icecream Cup, Chocolate Swirl, and just 1.5 grams of fat.  Those are absolutely delicious!  They are just over $ 3.00 for six cups if you get them at Wal-Mart.  They sure hit the spot! I didn't have my usual Bran cerial this am, so I'll do that this afternoon I guess.  :)

Well it's back outside, and another 35 minute walking session while the washing machine and dryer are making more work for me!  Later,

Rachel
Sounds like everyone's doing pretty darn good!  ( :

Back to work for me today--sigh.  I packed my lunch and snacks, so I could skip the BANQUET of pastries and goodies this morning, Subway, chips, and homemade cookies for lunch, and got out and walk/wogged with Bandit for 3ish miles.  I do not know how people do that--walk at 4:30 PM.  I did it, but I was miserable by the end.  AND, terrible thing is,  I KNOW I would NOT get back out at 8 and do it.... SO, I will perservere ( ;  But seriously.  You're studs if you walk after 8AM.

edited to add that you guys made me feel better and less down on myself.  I ate normal, maybe even a little less than usual, moved off and on all weekend hard, and was up 4+ pounds when I weighed today after work.  And no one noticed at school, "Lucy wwwwaaaaaaa!"  It's not like I wanted a parade, just someone to say, "you look nice/tan/like you've been working out, something!  lol -- I got some crap for eating my salad for lunch, and I thought something hateful while smiling on the outside. At least when I am thin, healthy and gorgeous, they will all still be old and bitter.  It evens out.
olivia- Did I forget to mention that ILOVETEACHERS! My son is starting school in Sept for the first time, if you are as good of a teacher as you are CC buddy (helpful, caring, patient, encouraging) your students are in for a wonderful treat(pardon the pun) You rock don't sound so down! They will notice after they see you for one consecutive week, the parade will comeLOL. How's the house coming along.... pictures please!

srogers-thanks my back is feeling alittle better already. Tell your hubby I feel his pain literally! And I also like walking at home with Leslie.... I will get back to you on her last name

wmilch- Your goal has just become mine. Not to gain any weight on my cruise thats for that I feel excited about going again.

Walk on sisters!

I got in 3 miles tonight, took a little longer than I wanted to but I got it in and kept it a brisk walk.

We met my daughter's teacher today and she seems like she is going to be nice, as long as Summer is happy with her I'm good, I hold teachers up today, they have such a hard job, it definitely takes a special person to be a teacher, what grade do you teach Olivia?  Summer is going into 3rd and my step son is going into the 8th.

I have done really good on my eating today, believe it or not I have only eaten 989 calories!! And I'm full, lots of veggies today so that really makes a difference.

Rachel that ice cream's sound really good, I'll have to look for them.  I had a snack of crackers which I think I've told you about- they are by All Bran- they are new at least they are new here-they come in Multi-grain and garlic herb, you can have 18 crackers for 130 calories and I have a wedge of laughing cow light swiss cheese for 35 calories and it's a very filling treat.

I eat 1 piece of  dark chocolate to curb my sweet craving, I never thought it would work but it does.
Olivia - the heck with what others think, its how YOU feel.  You know what you have done and how far you have come - so don't let them get you down!!!!!!

Mom - we were on a cruise in March and I gained 1 pound only.   We used the track and the exercise equipment once a day, and they also health meal choices. YOU CAN DO IT!!'

No walking last night, I had bought some zuchini at the Farmer's Market this weekend and need to use it before it spoiled, so I ended up make 3 loafs of bread and a dozen muffins........  oh well!!!  tonight is another night.

have a great day!
Funny how opportunities present themselves. I allowed myself to sleep in this AM because I'd been out late last night and was groggy all day yesterday. But the fella who was going to help pick up the RV today cancelled, so I decided to take the day off to do it. This gave me the chance to walk this morning after all! Did 45 mins, most of it against a moderate breeze that gave just a bit of resistence to make me have to work for it. Feels good! So off we go to bring home our new "home" :)

Hurray Sue for managing to get in a walk! I agree with how good it feels, too. Best of luck getting the RV.

So, I did not gain any weight or lose any...even though I was secretly hoping to. But I also measured myself again since it has been 2 weeks and I have lost 2 full inches off my thigh just above my knee!!  Happy, happy!! I dislike the way my legs look since I gained weight, so knowing the walking is helping them look better just motivates me to continue.

I climbed the bleachers today, which I haven't done since I twisted my knee a couple of weeks ago.  Man, that is so hard!  I don't even try to run them, just walk up and down and I really could feel the butt!

Olivia, this may seem like an odd question, but are you wearing the same clothes you wore when you were heavier?  If so,  you may not look like you lost weight since the large clothes could be hiding your toned body.  I find that wearing clothes that aren't really baggy and loose show the weight loss off much better.  Not necessarily tight, but form fitting.
