I would also like to join, I'm 24 and I weigh 228, I just joined this site, so if its still possible I'd like to.

Hi everybody,

Jodi, sorry you're having car problems.  That can be so frustrating.  I also chew the extra sugar free gum.  I find myself taking a stick out of the pack almost like some people smoke cigarettes.  lol  My favorite is the fruit flavors -- watermelon and the strawberry/banana.  They are just sweet enough to cut my craving for a snack.

Penny, hope your hubby is recovering nicely.  I hope you are right about chewing gum helping tone up the muscles in the face & neck.  I am chewing a lot now and I'll take toning wherever I can get it.  :)

Call-me-fluffy, welcome to the group.  This is a great group of people -- very supportive and motivating.  Hope you like it here.

Have a great evening everyone!

Gracie

CoolHey gals... Jodi... GREAT seeing you living in the SOLUTION... and a great idea for me, too, thanks!  I don't usually chew gum... and when I do... I CANNOT just chew one stick... so you guys giving me permission to chew many is GREAT..

Thanks Penny and Gracie for adding the ideas about chewing and stocking up on the gum... a great idea... I am going to do it...

Just wanted to share that I am about a week from flowing (that is, if, o course, I do flow at all) and so am not weighing in until "after" ... so as not to discourage myself... because I need ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT I CAN GET... I AM NEARING THE FINISH LINE OF MY 90 days on P()X doubles workout....I have finished 84  workous in seven weeks and one day... and this is my LAST SIX DAYS!  I have one more workout to do today... and three more double days this week, and then two more workout single days... it's hot and I don't want to balk at the finish line...

ALSO... my MIL (86, almost 87)is suffering from a urinary infection that they have been unable to treat in the last six weeks, and now she cannot walk well because of a knee issue... (she is local here)... and I spoke with my Mother (81) today... she is doing terrible... has a leg that has been weeping for two years...resulting from FOUR bothced knee replacement operations (don't ask-I cannot go into it...her suffering has been enormous) and now, in an unrelated issue, she might have to be hospitalized tomorrow because of her blood count going down to 18 (they hospitalize people with 25 or under) ... she would have to have a transfusion... we will know in the morning... she is on Cape Cod... a long trip...

In addition, as some of you know, my husband has been transitioning from one pain meidcation to another (he lives in inractable pain caused by an accident he was in almost seven years ago.. injuring his neck)... and has resulted in inability to sleep... thus affecting my sleep as well as my sons....

All this produces stress... making it a bit more difficult to work out.. and easier to think about food to relieve the tension... I have been doing great... but the temptation and instinct to "self medicate" with food is always there...

Pray for my Mom (Mary), MIL (Carlota), Hubby (Robert) and me... I would so appreciate your loving thoughts... xoxoxoxo Bonnie

hello call me fluffy. welcome to the group.  I love the pic. Is this your cat?  this is a wonderfully supportive group of people that like to help each other and get advice from each other. you could not have picked a nicer group. gracie your fave flavors of the gum are mine too. I am sitting her chewing some right now. sometimes I chew a couple of pieces a night, sometimes a five pack. depends on how my day is going. hubby is reovering nicely so far. he is doing his exercises without being told, haha, but stills pouts when he has to get on the cpm machine.( the machine that works your knee to keep it bending and helps get the bend further with time). he has a great hate for that machine. hopefully I can get him out tomorrow to the place where we go for me to swim and he can get some walking done with walker on sidewalk near pool and around pond. he really needs to get walking to progress any further and we just don't have room in our house, and no good place in yard.  bonnie, try the gum it is a life saver for me.sorry to hear about your mom and mother in law and hubby. seems you have some situations like I have had to deal with in my life also. I hate to hear that you mom's surgeries were so botched.  I had a cousin only a few yrs older than me that had a terrible time with knee replacement ( she also lives in calif. coincidence..) and they had to go in and take out the knee replacement and leave her with her leg dangling for over a year before they finallly got the infection out.  Infection is the number one reason knee surgeries don't turn out good.  I was diligent with hubby at hosp with nurses and others about being careful, but even then you never know when infection will strike. bless her heart.  and your mother in law eghaads when it rains it pours.  I feel for hubby with the chronic pain. it is terrible to deal with.  traction helps some people. I have a  friend with degenerative disc disease in her neck like I have in my back and she has a contraption she hooks up over the doorfacing to do traction when hers gets too bad. she also has to go to therapy from time to time. she is holding out on surgery until it gets so bad she can't stand it anymore.  will keep you all in my prayers.   hope everyone is doing good and the week is off to good start............ penny

It sounds like we're all having a bit of a hard time lately.

Bonnie, your family is in my thoughts and prayers.  Penny, glad to hear your hubby is coming along and even doing exercises without being whipped!

I came home from getting the rental car fixed only to find that my basement is flooded (3" of standing water) from all the rain we've been having and my daughter's bedroom on the second floor flooded which ran into the dining room.  The clean laundry was on the dining room table waiting to get folded and now it's all dirty again.  but my washer/dryer is in the basement...under water!  So I'm either heading to my mothers or a friends or the laundry mat.

We've got a pump going in the basement but it only pumps 170 gallons an hour and we've got about 2500 gallons down there now.

We went out for dinner yesterday and I had haddock.  It was really good.  But after the flood I broke down and had 2 bowls of lowfat ice cream.  :(

I'm hoping things start turning around soon.  Good luck everyone!  I hope today is better for all of us!

Sorry to hear you are having flooding issues - we had that last year and now we are in the midst of a drought which I have to say I prefer, only cut my grass once last month.

I'm still fighting two battles on this weight loss struggle, one is eating when I'm upset which seems to be a common problem.  There other is binging when I eat one thing I shouldn't have.

Finally made 50 lbs. lost and then had a family party on Saturday and blew it.  Now I'm up 5 again.

OH Katie, I'm the same way.  All this flood stress sent me into a feeding frenzy last night.  Bummer!

I always wanted to be one of those people who couldn't eat when stressed - oh well!

Good luck with the flood!

omg jodi. I am so sorry that all of this  has happened. no pun intended but seems when it rains it pours.( not trying to be funny). the fact that you only ate two bowls of  "lowfat icecream" is amazing.  I would have ate the whole fridge of whatever was in there. ugh.  it is these lowspots that challenge us and show us what we are made of. your are a strong individual and I know you will be just fine. hugs to you.

katie congrats on 50 lbs down. that is a huge accomplishment. seems we all have the common thread of eating when we are upset, add to mine, happy, bored etc.  we too are in a drought here in east texas, however I don't know what is making the grass grow. ( well it is not really grass, the yard on the side of our house between our neighbors is more like hay so it is pretty and green and over thigh high now. hubby can't mow since he is down and I can't mow due to back issues and allergies.. oh well. let it grow let it grow.)  I guess the dew at night( high dewpoints) is keeping the weeds and hay growing. in front we have no " grass" left, it is all dirt... no rain here to speak of in 2 months. has been around us but only  a few drops here. don't worry about the 5 lbs.  It can't be just from sat. some of it must be fluid too, I am sure party food had lots of sodioum.  just acknowledge where you are and keep on from here. keeping on and getting back on the horse is what makes this time different for all of us.  WE ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE IN OR GIVE UP... WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER.  katie be proud of how far you have come!!!!

Katie, Welldone for losing so much, that is awesome!

Jodi, Oh no! That is awful, hopefully you will be able to get everything sorted without too much lasting dammage! I would hate that to happen. We have had ALLOT of rain too and im on the ground floor, round the back the door is level with the ground and the water fills up there if its really heavy.  I keep thinking its going to come into my house.

Bonnie, I am the same with gum, I need a few pieces to continue the taste otherwise I end up getting bored with it and spitting it out. I dont chew it very often but its nice to have once and a while. Hope your family are doing better and good luck with your last days of P()X !!

Thanks for all the encouragement guys I'm not giving up even though it has been a trying week.  A bunch of kids when rampant in our otherwise quiet neighborhood Monday night and did a lot of vandalism.  Mine is purple spray paint on my yard sign, yard light and brand new garage door.

lonestarpenny - I have nieces that live in Austin and San Antonio and I love to go and visit them.  I live in cold Wisconsin and so we are constantly weighing the advantages of heat and cold, rain and drought.

When I retire I'd like to live in Texas for the winter, Wisconsin in the summer.

Thanks everyone for the support and kind words.

Yes, this has been a trying summer...first the car accident (I'm supposed to get the car back tomorrow - finally!  The accident was on 7/3!

And the house is coming along.  The first and second floor issues are drying out, then the "fix it" part begins.  The insurance guy said they'll pay to refinish the hardwood floors in both rooms and paint the dining room.  The basement is finally almost dry.  They took all the damaged furniture and crap out today.  They're finishing up tomorrow.  The only outstanding issue with the basement is if it's covered by insurance or not.  Our clothing dryer got ruined, so we need a new one.  I don't know what they'll pay for the basement if it gets covered since we lost EVERYTHING down there aside from my china and some books and photographs.  But all the other stuff is trash.

I haven't lost anything, but I'm managing to maintain during this insanity, which for me is an accomplishment!

Stay strong everyone and Penny is right...there is no other option than to succeed!  Let's Go!

PS. I wish we could send some of our rain to TX!  We've had the wettest July on record since the 1930's!

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well!! I’ve been back from my cruise for a couple of weeks, but just haven’t had time to log on. The cruise was great; very relaxing and a lot of fun!

Unfortunately, I can’t say I’ve been doing very well with sticking to my eating plan. I am really struggling right now. I’ve gained 8 pounds, and can’t seem to get back on track. I can’t even blame the cruise. I actually lost 1 pound on the cruise. The gaining happened after I returned. I really tried to think about why this is. I think there were a few reasons why I didn’t gain on the cruise. First off, I actually got more exercise. Since I had so much time on my hands, I was able to fit in going to the gym every day, in addition to all of the walking, swimming, etc. Whereas, when I’m home I work all week, sitting behind a desk most of the day. However, I think the real issue is the food. Although food was ALWAYS accessible on the cruise I did less binge eating. I was always eating with other people, which makes me eat slower and somehow become more conscious of what I’m eating. Also, I went hours in between meals. Another thing was that there was no food in my room, so I avoided "mindless" eating while watching TV (in fact, proudly I can say that I didn’t turn on the TV once). Now that I’m back home, I’m back to getting stressed at work and eating over it, snacking while watching TV, etc. Now that I’ve identified some of these habits, I need to figure out a way to fix them!! I’m determined!!

I haven’t read all of the posts, but just from the recent ones, I see that this stress eating is definitely a "common thread". Penny, I agree; not only when stressed, but all emotions, happy sad, etc. However, as Penny said we won’t give up and we’ll get through it!! Jodi, sorry to hear about all of the hassles you are going through with the flooding. Katie, congrats on the great weight loss!!

leelee

leelee,

I admire you for doing so well on a cruise, I can't even think about going on a cruise right now with all the free food available at all times of the day and night.

Sometimes when you get out of your normal eating routine it's hard to get back on track.  Go back to what's worked for you in the past and I'm sure you'll drop that 8 lbs.  I sit all day at work too and it's hard to lose with all that inactivity.

Lee lee!  Congrats on losing on the cruise and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!  I completely understand about gaining those 8lbs once you returned.  I was doing really well when I was under stress with the house flood and everything.  But once the stress was gone it was a huge relief and I let my guard down it was as if tons of food just snuck it's way in my mouth when I wasn't looking.  I know I put it in there, but I honestly don't even remember eating half the crap I put in my mouth.  Now I'm 3lbs up from my lowest recent weight and I'm totally bummed.  But I tried to pull it together and today ate 1340 cals so far and jogged on the treadmill for 40 minutes.  I was hoping to squeeze in a snack tonight, but I'm not sure if  I want to waste the calories.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer!

CoolHi you guys... Jodi and Leelee... I am so understanding of that hanging in there with the discipline and then, when life returns to "normal" well, the instincts we have, I think, may be related to comforting or rewarding ourselves for jobs well done, for accomplishing what we aimed to do... and then, we get scared, life gets in the way, normal equals stress..everyday stress at that, but nonetheless, stress... everyone on this thread is contending with issues of everyday stress... Penny and I have injured husbands... Jodi is Supermom, replete with all the many many responsibilties of three young lives, home and hubby....

I just want to say that we can manage these instincts better and better everyday...we have all changed miraculously (and through the sweat of our brow) and we can still do better ... I know we can... with the help of one another.

MY REPORT.....((jumping up and down and screaming)) I DID IT!!!!! I FINISHED P90x doubles program... a total of 91 workouts in 90 days... totally and completely outrageous accomplishment...I WISH I HAD YOU ALL WITH ME TO CELEBRATE>>>>>> I AM SO PROUD of myself..and the sheer unadulterated committment that it took to do it... now on to the next round... I think I am going to try a new set of dvds... not sure what yet....

Not weighing myself til I flow, or next week... (as it is the itme of life when I might not)... but the water gain is evident

Love and thanks... xoxoxo Bonnie

Congrats Bonnie!  That is an amazing accomplishment!  You rock girl!!!

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I'm "supermom" but definitely better than average Wink.

But you are right, I think we are all doing much better now than ever before.  Instead of a 3 day binge it might have been 3 weeks or 3 months, even 3 years before the subconscious would say "STOP!".

So, although I'm bummed about the 3lb gain, I'm happy that I got back on track in less than a week.

It's been a great summer day here in CT...not too hot, not too muggy but lots of sun. I hope everyone else is enjoying the day!

Jodi

Bonnie, Welldone on completing your program. You look awesome in the pictures in your gallery!

LeeLee and Jodi, dont get yourself down too much about the gain. Aslong as you get back on track its all good. I gained 2lbs when I went on a weekend away, hopefully ill be able to get rid of it again over the next few weeks.

I have been getting back into the exercise swing, really enjoyed a really good sweaty session the other night but some of my muscles are still a little tender, I think i worked them too hard after such a long time with no exercise.

They will soon get used to it again, I hope.

Martoon & Bonnie, love the new photos!  I've been wanting to take a new photo of myself but I just don't take a good self portrait.  My 7 year old said he'd take a photo of me...of course at the time I didn't have any make up on and hadn't done my hair and I said to him...oh not now...I'm ugly and he said no, mom...you look beautiful.  Awwwww
