Lots of people peel kiwis but I recommend eating them with the skin on, just wash well and slice into thin rounds. Most of the fibre and many nutrients are in the skin or just under, so you are getting lots of good stuff when you eat it all. Plus, it adds texture and helps it keep it's shape...my bf used to hate kiwi, found it too mushy, until I gave it to him with the skin on!

Thanks for the tip! I was going to peel them thinking the skin was inedible, you know? Am munching on them right now. Mmm!
That's funny, I never considered eating it with the skins on it. Anything that looks remotely hairy usually doesn't remind me of something that tastes good. :)
How did everyone's weekend go? I did ok, I keep forgetting to weigh myself- although I am pretty sure I didn't gain. These summer BBQ's are killing me. I am almost wanting fall to hurry up and get here.
Ive never writen to anyone about myself before, so im horribly new to this, and was wondering if anyone else always feels so empty, and just takes so much to get full or to feel full.....or even just satasfied.....im 399...and hopefully heading in the right direction
Good evening everyone!
Welcome to the group to amandief, aprilj79 and chamber_lanes! This is a great group, very supportive and motivating.
My goal for this week is to walk every morning and ride my exercise bike every evening. So far, so good. I had the same goal last week, but missed Wednesday and Friday. I just want to do "purposeful" exercise every day. Even if I don't walk and ride every day, as long as I do one or other I'll be happy.
Still hanging in there at 248 today. I am jsut happy I haven't gone back over 250, especially with my birthday last week.
Hope you all have a wonderful evening.
Gracie
I know what you mean Chamber_lanes. I had to really think about why I was never feeling satisfied until I had completely overdone it. I realized that stress is a huge trigger for me, and also my emotional state. I tend to eat more when I feel bad about myself, and pretty much anytime I am bored! I've started to stop myself when I got to the fridge- I question myself like: Why am I here? Is it because I am hungry? Or bored, frustrated etc? I also have been eating several small meals w/ lots of fruits and veggies during the day so that I don't go crazy at dinner time. That was a big one too. But its all about what works for you, because most of the things that I was "taught" by one person or another just never really applied to me. I guess it all had to boil down to straight willpower and a desire for change.
Chamber__lanes, welcome to the group. I love to eat until I am completely full, unfortunately then I usually feel very sick afterwards. I save my main meal for at night and even though I always want more when I'm done if I wait a little while I'm glad I stopped when I did.
Hang in there!
Happy Sunday everyone!
Katie, I know what you mean about eating until you are completely full but then feeling very sick afterwards. We have a favorite Thai restaurant that we go to for lunch and I would eat everything on the plate and then be miserable all afternoon. Now, when we go, I divide out some of the food (not to half yet, but I am getting there) and only eat what I have portioned out. I am full all afternoon, but not sick and hurting.
I am trying to be more aware of what I am eating each day. I can finish off a bag of chips or some cookies without realizing it. So, I have tried taking out however many I allow myself to eat and then put the bag away. I still catch myself looking down thinking there has to be another cookie or chip left, but I've eaten them all, but this way they are counted and posted in my calorie log.
I have an exercise goal of doing some type of purposeful exercise every day and last week was the first time I achieved it! I actually exercised twice a day for 6 of 7 days too. Hope I can do the same this coming week.
Hope you all have a great day!
Gracie
Hi Everyone.. its been a while since i have been on this thread.. welcome to all the new peeps! You guys have found a really supportive and kind thread! My report.. for those who read my journal.. well, its been a busy August.. as you know I finished my first round of P90x doubles, and am now in my second week of round two... GRACIE that twice a day exercise makes allthe difference in the world with appetite... I find that I just don't want to eat that much while I am on a good exercise schedule, thereby my body gets into the HABIT of beginning to eat in order to feed my activity, instead of the eating for all the other reasons I ate for..(emotional reasons)....
I have had a ton of menopausal symptoms that are kicking my butt.. not being able to time my FLo is primary among them... so that whole hormonal part of my life is now totally unpredictable.. so I HAVE to pay greater attention to my nutrition.. or I will got NUTS
After just a phenomenal birthday week ... followed by the out of a dream weekend up north visiting the ranch and Hearst Castle... well, I am coming down to earth again... next week booking my show for Sept and Oct.. getting ready for our BIG FAMILY TRIP to Europe!!!! (It only took me 35 years to get there--that's how long I have been wanting to visit )... it will be a bustling fall...
I have been on a plateau of loss for almost 6 weeks now.. this is frustrating.. but others have told me that they have expereinced the same thing... so I will pull up my socks, continue to log my food and activity, to journal, to reach out and to exercise and eat well... eventually my body has to let go....
Love you guys... hang in there, and, as I always say..DO NOT GIVE UP BEFORE THE MIRACLE! ((hugs))
Hi Guys, I'm back from vacation and I'm hoping...BACK ON TRACK! Welcome to all our new friends.
Bonnie, sounds like your trip and birthday celebration were wonderful. Don't get too bent up about the plateau, sometimes you body just needs to refocus (like out brains). Plus if you really are having hormonal issues that could be causing some of it.
Gracie, 2 workouts a day is amazing. I have to make time for exercise again. I don't want to put it off, but I'm realistic in that I won't have time until the kids go back to school next week. I'm going to try to fit a few workouts in this week to get me re-motivated.
We had a great vacation, but we spent SO much time in the car I feel permanently cramped! We visited with my grandfather, which was heartwarming but a little sad since grandma passed away so recently. But I think he was happy to see us. We had a blast in Chicago. Everytime we visit we say we should move there. It really is a wonderful city. I like it better than NYC...but NY is so much closer!
Well friends, I'm going to get my day started. i have a job interview today for a part time job that I probably don't want and tomorrow I have training for a part time job that I already have (it's a new project that lasts about 6 weeks). The extra money will be nice, but the insane schedule always stresses me out a little.
Stay strong!
Jodi
Thanks for the welcome, Gracie! Hope you have been doing well so far! :)
Dramaqun- sounds like you had a wonderful birthday celebration! good for you not giving up! I was so frustrated with my weight loss progress that I gave up for a week then seriously got back on track. :) You CAN do it.
Good luck on your job interview, Jodi!
Goals for this week and thereafter: drink at least 3 liters of water per day, start walking 30-45 min at least 4-5 times (a week) in addition to my Wii Active and will try to keep in mind that it is okay to have my carb/fat/protein percentages not always be a perfect 45/25/30.
Hope everyone else is doing great!!!
amandief, what do you do on Wii Active? I found there was too much jumping in a lot of the games/exercises. I ended up doing a strength training (hard arms/back) on days when I wasn't running, but it got boring. Have you tried the 30 day challenge?
Yesterday was a good day, today is good so far, but I did have a donut hole and 1/2 slice of banana bread at my meeting this morning. I wish I had the will power to say no. But I logged it and I'll just make up for it the rest of the day.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Everyone keeps meantioning Wii Fit, or Wii Active, but that system is only for someone who is under 250 pounds, what about us who are well way over that limit
You're right- there is a weight limit for the wii fit and wii active.
Right now I attend water aerobics classes, they are very low impact aerobics but you still get a great workout. Being in the water you move better and it is better on your joints. I attend about 3x a wk and then walk other days so I don't get bored.
Hello everyone. Sorry it's been a while since I posted. It's been a very busy month with my mom coming out to visit and the boys starting back to school. Thank you for all the very sweet welcomes. I'm excited to continue my journey to losing weight.
I can say that one thing that has made me feel so much better and has helped to cut the pounds away is quitting soda. I used to love drinking soda...Ice cold lol but now I mainly stick to water and healthy drinks. I've found that the Naked drinks are great.
Anyhow, the boys are calling me to come look at something. Enjoy the rest of your day!

250? I remember reading 330 in the manual when I first bought it. I thought it was kinda ridiculous to have a weight limit. :o\
Jodi- I am doing the 30 day challenge, started off on easy at first. Now I am on medium since the workout yesterday was easy. I didn't think the jumping was too bad. It's the running part that's killing me! :) That is why I'm hoping walking might help with my stamina with running? I also do about 15 minutes of wii fit (just the yoga and some of the strength) before starting on active.
Palmetto- Oh man! I used to drink Naked drinks a lot but after a while, it started to add up price-wise so now I make my own green smoothies- helluva cheaper but still nutritious and most importantly- tasty! :) Though I do understand if convenience is a factor, though.
I didn't do so hot yesterday as far as calorie intake is concerned, so I worked out a little longer and am lowering my cals by 200 for today to even it out. I am armed with a menu plan so all should be well today. :)
Good morning everyone!
Bonnie, sounds like you had a great birthday. Big family trip to Europe sounds fantastic. Good for you. I love your "Do not give up before the miracle!" I printed that out and hung it in my office to help me stay motivated.
Jodi, welcome back! That is good you got to spend time with your grandfather. I am sure he appreciated it more than you can know. And good for your children too. Hope your job interview went okay (if you decided it was something you wanted).
Amandie, those are great goals. I sometimes forget about the water, and I know it is very important. Being armed with a menu plan is also a very smart thing. I need to do that. Otherwise, that's when my mindless eating takes over.
Chamber_lanes, I didn't realize Wii had a weight limit, but my daughter told me that it announced your weight out loud to whoever was in the room, so that's been a deterrent for me!
For exercise, I started out walking every day. In the beginning I could only go around the block once, which wasn't even a mile, and it took me forever. But I kept with it and I've gotten to the point where I can walk 2.5 miles in around 40 minutes before work every day. Still not a speed demon, but I am moving and I think that is the most important thing.
April, that is a good idea about the water aerobics. I am thinking of looking into that as my knees give me a fit if I overdo it in day.
Palmettoflipflop, welcome back too! It was getting sort of lonely around here. It is always good when the children go back to school and you can return to some type of normal routine. Good for you on quitting soda. Wish I could say the same. I have started drinking Coke Zero on some days, but I really love my regular Coke. When I go out to eat though I have gotten much better about ordering either tea or water. That has to help since I was up to about 4 sodas a day.
I am doing okay with the exercise so far this week. Hope I can keep it up and hopefully I can get the eating under control.
Good luck everyone!
Gracie
I honestly haven't explored the Wii Active enough to know if they have a weight limit...but I can't imagine why...there's no balance board like the Wii Fit. You just hold the remote/nunchuk or slip it into a strap on your leg. It even comes with an extender so you can make the leg strap bigger.
When I was 250+ the only thing I did for exercise was walk. But what really helped me get from 230s to lower 200's was a little strength training, which is what I use the Wii Active for. It comes with resistence bands, and frankly at $50 it's cheaper than a gym membership. And if you won't want to put your weight in you don't have to.
I have a problem with soda...I drink too much of it. I love diet coke, seltzer, anything with bubbles! I try really hard to drink water, but I don't get in nearly enough!
So far, 3 days back into the swing of things and i'm feeling really good. Not as cranky and physically feeling less achy and bloated. It's amazing how much better I feel when I put good food into my system instead of crap!
Hope everyone has a good wednesday! :) Jodi
Hey people... I too haven't done the Wii thing.. but I wanted to share some of the greatest news I have had for seven weeks... I STOPPED losing about that time ago... even with great diet, always logging, and doing a really intense saily workout regimen (P90x doubles) and sharing on line.... BUT I WOULD NOT GIVE UP (yeah, I ranted a bit about it, but I DID NOT GIVE UP) and GUESS WHAT!... I finally took off a pound!
ONE WHOLE POUND off of my 194.5..... I began here at 207... and have given myself a year to goal... so I WON'T GIVE UP... that's the most important message I have to peeps starting out... DO NOT GIVE UP before the miracle! THey DO happen... (in that 7 weeks I did not GAIN anything--THAT's the miracle!)
