:o
Haha.
This is definitely interesting. I'll be 17 in about a month and thought I stopped growing in like 8th grade--which would make sense, considering I've always heard that girls stop growing two years after menstruation begins, and my period started when I was in 6th grade [tmi? sorry :p haha]. I was always 5'3-3/4". Sometimes I'd stretch it and say 5'4". I was pleasantly surprised to learn, about 4 months ago, that my height had increased from 5'3"-ish to 5'5". A few days ago, I was measured in the same conditions, with the same means of measurement and everything and am nearly 5'6". Haha maybe it doesn't sound like a huge deal, but to me it truly is. I'm almost certain it's my body catching up with all the growing it had scrimped on.
So for all you teens out there that always say "Oh, I'm pretty sure my body's finished growing.." you could be wrong ;)
I too am still growing, and I'm approaching 17 1/2! I had a physical two days ago and was surprised to learn that I am now 5'5-1/4 up from 5'3-3/4...so I grew about an inch and a half! I think continuing to grow in late teens is something that runs in my family...my sister didn't stop growing until 19. So maybe there's more to come?
I think this might be why I'm hungry and tired a lot...so I just eat more and tell myself it's fuel for my body to keep on growing!
I have too! During my eating disorder, I was 5'3, but now, in recovery, I have already gotten up to 5'4 in like 2 months. My nutritionist said that you do not stop growing until early 20's. Yay! I want to be a tall bball player. :) Go eating more!
I say I've stopped. I really hope I'm wrong.
Did your mom have a growth spurt late? Thats the kind of thing that runs in families. I want to grow some more. I'm obsessed with it and annoy my friends with constant growth chat. I'm around 5'6 (I fluctuate, so I range from 5'5"-6")
lena & psycho--exactly :D which is why I've decided to stop any attempts at weight loss completely--I want this to keep happening! Go us :D
shrinkmeplease--Actually, according to my mom, she was the tallest in her class in 8th grade at 5'6".. and now stands exactly the same. Maybe my aunts on my dad's side grew in their late teens, but most of them [out of 8 of them!] are probably 5'5" or below, so that would mean they were even shorter :p Just nourish your body properly and it'll grow to its full potential.
Second, I'm jealous =P
And third, had your doctor told you that you were done growing before or did you just assume? I've given up hope because my doctor said I'm done =\ I don't know how she's so sure though...but yeah it basically stole my hope (I want to be taller so bad! Even just a little would be good =D)
Yeah, she did tell me that, actually, but it was based on when I told her my period started and not any formal tests or anything. She basically said, "You're done growing." lol. I've come to learn she was wrong about A LOT though.. obviously :p
It was SO depressing when she told me that though...I went in to get some shots and she walks in and my stepmom just asked right away, so is she going to grow anymore? and the doctor just says no. (Like, a didn't have to think about it, already know for sure, no.)
I hadn't given her any info and she hadn't ever seen my mom or dad so I don't know what she was basing it off of =P I had started my period really early too but I don't know for sure that she knew that! haha
I don't know who makes the rules!!!! I was 5'7" from the age of about 14 until my senior year in high school. From the beginning of my senior year until the end of my senior year, I grew 2 inches and was 5' 9" until I learned a year ago that I am now shrinking. I didn't think people starting shrinking as early as age 50, but I guess I was wrong. I am now 5' 8".
Trust me, being tall is not all it is cracked up to be anyway. When I was a teenager and early 20s, I used to have the hardest time finding clothes skinny enough and long enough. Of course, I don't have the skinny enough problem any more.
That's awesome, congratulation's!
I really, really hope that I don't stop growing, I'm only 5'1"! (going into 9th grade..)
I'm only 5'2", haha. I hope to experience a growth spurt of, say.... 10 inches or so... ![]()
yay! thats awesome! :) I had the same experience. I grew from 5'6'' to 5'8'' in 2 months. WOOHOO! lol. It's amazing. :)
