foods that give you energy

hey everyone-

are there any foods, food combos, or any routines that you think give you more energy?

i think for me it would be lots of protein and granola/energy bars like LUNA-  but it doesnt always do the trick!

I think that a good source of protein with carbs works, like PB with crackers or an apple. And sometimes turkey slices with a handful of nuts is a great snack to do the trick. Like you said, granola bars work, but they just leave me sorta hungry in an hour, so I try to stick to a more satisfying combo.

You could try a fruit smoothie with protein powder and flax mixed in. Just a suggestion!!

thanks!

maybe its that im currently at 1600 cals that i often feel a lack of energy throughout the day, but i will feel more energized after dinner, maybe bc by then ive eaten more?  hmm

i dunno, i need some energizing breakfast or lunch i deas i suppose, cant do the oatmeal thing tho, it upsets my stomach.

Bananas.  A perfect combination of natural sugar, carbohydrates, potassium, B6, and fiber.

I always have one before a workout, and it carries me through perfectly.  If just before yoga, the combination leaves me feeling fabulous.

hmm, thanks for te suggestion but they constipate terribly, same thing w/ the oatmeal!  i think its an IBS thing.

thanks!

Aww. I was going to suggest bananas, too. Hmm. It's odd, but I find that when I eat something spicy I am more awake afterwards! xP Perhaps make a meal with a bit of chilli in it for your lunch? I also find green tea helps me, but that's likely because it has a bit (literally a small amount) of caffeine in it.

ha-maybe thats why i have no energy, i cant eat any of these foods! lol.  i have IBS and acid reflux, really bad, so i cant eat spicy foods, bananas and oatmeal constipate me for some random reason, umm, i think thats it!

thanks tho!

eggs or a glass of milk! i think fats and protein give me longer sustained energy rather than a "boost " of energy

(edited) I was going to second Bnanas but I see they're out

lol, i know, it sux!  banans w PB and oatmeal sounds sooo good, but id like die later, not worth it!

thanks tho!

Then I find a scrambled egg with a bit of - fried in olive oil (or low cal spray)- spring onions, red peppers, mushrooms or anything really takes me right through to a late lunch very easily with the kind of energy that is very stable.  (It's only that fruit is best early on an empty stomach that I don't do eggs much lately as I am trying to get more in - but it's the next best.).

In addition I have just recently cut dairy (use soya - not bad actually) and do find there is a difference altogethor in how I feel even though I am not especially sensitive / intolerant to dairy or anything else for that matter.  Feeling better=more energy.

Milk! It's odd. I can be DEAD tired, have a glass of milk, and it's like a new day! =P Too bad I'm lactose intolerant. Only for emergencies! Haha.
