There are TONS of different vegetables, and TONS of different ways to prepare them. Same for fruits. Try something different and more unusual--you may stumble across something that you enjoy. :-)

Maybe these ideas will help:

use spices and herbs to jazz up your veggies and fruits, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, basil, oregano.

make a stir fry and add your favorite sauce

dip them in a favorite dip

eat a fruit bar or dried fruit (not the same nutritional return but you get the fiber)

eliminate the competition like cookies, chips and candy

finally remind yourself that you will not given up yourself, you are too important to you to do that :-)!

thx u but the different methods of cooking always involve some use of fat which  means they r high in calories.

i need low cals method of making them

It's not always high cal. I loooove putting some teriyaki on mushrooms and peppers and squash and tossing it on the grill. Teriyaki sauce is 20 calories for a tablespoon. Two tablespoons is usually plenty for a ton of vegetables. You can also cook them with some garlic. A teaspoon of garlic has 4 calories, so you can have a lot of garlic for very few calories! Vinegar is extremely low cal and tastes great with cucumber and tomato. Lemon juice, squeezed from a real lemon, is low cal.

You just have to be creative.

Even if you cook them in SOME fat, it doesn't necessarily make them high cal. And as minerva_moon pointed out, if you're creative you can come up with some great options. I love steamed corn with a sprinkling of garlic and parmesan cheese. Parmesan cheese makes everything yummy.

OH!  Snap!  She gets very testy when asked that question, ladyfire

Seems like members have given tons of advice for healthy living on all of your threads surina, what is not working for you?  You have to eat a balanced diet.  It is good for your body, mind and soul.

Really? I never saw anyone ask her that outside the particular thread. I honestly am curious to see whether it worked for her or not.

I wrote in another thread that I really enjoy my veggies when I am eating them because I am actually hungry. If I am eating them to stop myself from eating something high-cal, I hate them! They are SO not what I want!!! Same veggie, totally different response.

i think I have been in your situation in the past, when I did not realize how being hungry made me appreciate the food I got. I am NOT talking about the feeling that I'm starving to death--this always results in overeating for me, always, so I don't let that happen. But when I feel that first twinge of hunger, I eat something that was planned for the day. If I feel hungrier than I expected on any given day, I eat more--and I like the veggies then! But just munching on them all day so I won't stuff in cookies or whatever; yep, I get really sick of them that way, too.

Are you bored a lot? That might be one reason you are overfeeding yourself on veggies. Better veggies than cookies of course, but even better, find a way to deal with the boredom!

Good luck.

Any 'fad' is not going to get you where you need to be.  I have lost well over 100lbs. and kept it off for over 6 years, ergo I am speaking from vast amounts of experience and success.

I am not sorry that you feel that I came off as rude; at least it caught your attention.  The younger generation wants a 'quick fix' which is NOT what this site is about.  Take the time to re-read all of your posts.  There in-lies all of your answers.

Calories are calories, so if you're not going to eat your veggies make sure to take your multi-vitamin.

Without fruits and vegetables its hard to get enough fiber and volume to feel filled up. So you may need to drink craploads of water.

Having said this, these are patches and not cures. They have nothing to do with a balanced eating plan that you can sustain healthfully.

Steaming veggies (and not over-cooking them) works for me. I actually like the taste of vegetables so I usually don't spice them up much.

Keep searching for variety. Today I picked up some dates from Jordan that were half purple and half brown but not cured in glucose. Mangoes and melons are in season. Soy milk? Doh .. . I coulda had a V8. Fruit nectars. Carrot juice.

thx u every1. i understand ur concern  healthybmi and thx u but the younger generation like politeness as well. Innocent

ive tried eating only veggies so that i get used to them but i simply cant handle it. soft things disgust me. sorry guys! lol.

my cals for the day is 1200 and cooking the veg. in fat doesnt give me much room for staples at night. i cnt sleep with an empty belly.

im trying everything but i guess it'll take me longer than i think to get used to veg.

Steam and don't overcook vegetables. E.g. Asparagus is less than 2 minutes. You can eat broccoli or cauliflower raw, so it does not take long.

I've known a lot of people who were trained to not like vegetables their whole lives because they were always overcooked.

OH MY GOD STOP WITH THE TEXT-SPEAK! I swear, I fear for the communication skills of our youth ... so much "bcuz" and "thx u" and "lol" and "every1" and "ur" and "cnt" and "dnt" and "jus" and "r" and not using correct (or any) puntuation or capitalization ... I know this probably isn't the place, but for the love of all that's holy, it's like fingernails on a chalk board! YOU AREN'T TEXTING SOMEONE! You are using a forum where you have plenty of room and time to properly spell things and punctuate them. Do  people who communicate in this manner not realize how  it makes them look?

OK, rant done.

I'm the weirdo who uses proper grammar/spelling/punctuation while I'm texting people. XD Except I can't figure out how to make an apostrophe on my phone. Having to write "youre" drives me NUTS! I could never manage "ur".

Surina, if soft things disgust you (which is...weird to me, because you don't eat ANY soft foods? Really?) then eat the veggies raw! Squeeze lemon juice on them or vinegar or a little bit of balsamic vingerette or some other low cal dressing.

OK, so now I don't feel like the only oddball out there who texts, typing exactly as I would in a letter or email! I feel ya, I HATE not being able to use an apostrophe - I've resorted to using an asterisk instead!

And good tip, on eating the veggies raw w/ balsamic vinegar! Raw veggies with lemon & salt are good, too, as are raw, baby carrots with Tabasco!

I also text using proper grammar; nothing odd about it.

For enjoying vegetables, I suggest you start with something that hides the vegetables a bit. Sautee onions, red bell peppers, mushrooms, and garlic in a bit of extra virgin olive oil, set aside, then heat a tortilla in the pan (I suggest Sante Fe brand Whole Grain Tortillas from Sam's Club: 100 calories, 8g protein, 7g fiber). Add wild rice, black beans, cooked chicken, raw baby spinach, sauteed vegetables, salsa, avacado, and non-fat plain yogurt to the tortilla for a super delicious burrito. Omit any of the ingredients and it will still taste great! Plus, you can make a ton of the burritos and keep in the freezer for a quick meal...I recommend not putting in baby spinach until after you reheat the burritos, though.

Another way to enjoy vegetables is to drown raw vegetables with a nonfat plain yogurt and dried dill weed dip. I usually add a ton of dill weed and a little onion powder, garlic powder, lemon juice, and worcestershire sauce...Experiment with spices until you find something you like. Or, you could add caramelized onions to plain yogurt for another yummy dip. If the yogurt is too sour for your taste, add a little miracle whip to mellow it out.

A third thing you could try is cutting up lots of different vegetables into small pieces, and tossing them in a large bowl with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Let this marinate at least overnight for a wonderful antipasto.

For fruit, I suggest adding it to cereal or oatmeal. Oatmeal, berries, yogurt, and a little bit of honey is insanely good! You could also make fruit popsicles or smoothies from frozen fruit. Banana, frozen strawberry, yogurt, and a splash of orange juice is my personal favorite.

Have fun experimenting with flavors! I hope you like fruits and vegetables more in the future; I know I used to hate tomatoes when I was younger, but now I can't live without them (supposedly your sense of taste changes every seven years).

I actually really don't like cooked veggies much either, although in a stir-fry they're okay.  When I was a kid and my mom was cooking carrots or peas for dinner, she'd always leave a little bowl of raw ones for me lol.

I find I don't eat as many veggies as I should, so what I try to do is eat a mixture of raw veggies, and instead of using a dip like dill, which can be high calorie, I make a batch of home-made guacamole, and use that instead.  That way, I'm getting the guacamole too, which is so so healthy for you.  Or, you could try dipping them in hummus, full of yummy chickpeas.  Or, if you really don't want the raw veggies, just eat the guacamole or hummus with other foods, like whole wheat pita, or a few whole wheat tortilla chips.

Hope that helps!

I don't understand how you can say "I'M SICK OF ALL FRUITS AND VEGGIES"

They are all so totally different from each other in texture, flavor, mouth-feel, color, smell, etc, that the ONLY thing they have in common is that they are good for you.  How can you say 'I hate soft stuff' about fruits and veggies?  Most of them aren't soft at all, and if you're overcooking them to the point of mush, then eating them isn't going to be helping you much because you have destroyed most to all of the vitamins in them anyway, as vitamins are easily destroyed by heat.

You say you're only eating 1200 calories, which may be a little low for you to be able to get in the nutrients that you need, especially if you're not eating healthily.

You probably are just going to have a "Yea, but...." answer to this like you have had for everyone else's thoughtful answers, so I'm really not sure why I even typed it.  Let's chalk it up to a rant!

Do you hate apples? I find that it tends to calm my sweets craving. For veggies i use the steamfresh veggies and then top it off with some fat free salad dressing and they are really good! Maybe try different ways of preparing your fruits/veggies.

another thing you can try to get the serving of fruits/veggies in, is that new V8 drink, it comes in good flavors too!
