The day after hunger

Quote  |  Reply

What happens to your body if you don’t eat for a day? I understand that your metabolism will slow down a lot for that day. But what about the next day? Can you just eat regularly again with out worrying about your metabolism. Surly your body can’t go into starvation mode after one day, can it? I’m sure this is a question with an easy answer but I’m not sure what it is. Thanks a ton. :)

It seems to me I've read that two days is the amount of time your metabolism takes to start to slow down from undereating. I may just be totally wrong about that, though. Sorry - that wasn't much help! LOL!

Actually the metabolism is slowing down and speeding up on a constant basis.  Which is why people are always advised not to skip breakfast, for example.  The metabolism naturally slows overnight whilst you're asleep and needs a kick-start in the morning to get it back up to speed.   But you have to skip meals repeatedly in order to see effects in terms of weight-gain.

You'd feel pretty crappy by not eating at all for a day.  Ask anyone that's had to do that in preparation for an operation! But, if you don't make a habit of it and you go back to eating regularly, you'd be fine.

yes.. it just makes matters worse in the long run..you might appear thinner the next morning but then all you want to do all that day is eat everything you missed the day before. Atleast with me.. haha skipping a day of eating just makes me end up gaining weight!
