Hey, ladies! I've been on this diet journey going on 4 months and have lost 39.6 pounds (303 down to 263.6)! I'm just making it into a size 18 and am hoping to get into a size 14 within the next 3 months. SO, I was wondering for ladies who are similar in size and have gone down sizes....how long did it take you to go from a size 18 to a size 14. I know we're all built differently. But, I was just wondering what the average would be.
I find that I stay motivated if I have a concrete goal to work toward...My goal for my 30th b-day is to be in a size 14!
It probably matters what your height is. For example, I'm 5'2" and 220 pounds but am in a size 18 (I think, haven't been able to locate a pair of pants yet but the 20 doesn't fit right anymore). I'm calculating that every 15 pounds is approximately one pant size so to go from an 18 --> 14 should take me about 4 months at my current rate of 8 pounds per month.
Well, I'm 5'3 and 265...I wear a size 18 pants (tight but it fits). I heard that 15 lbs for every size. But, it seems like it take me a lot more for my pant sizes to change. I tend to hold onto weight in my lower body. I know if my pants are a size 14 then my top will be around a size 12....I've been averaging 1.5-2 lbs a week. So, hopefully, I can make my first big goal! :-)
I started the weight loss as an 18+. I say that because I was mostly wearing sweat pants and men's clothing. I actually moved from 18-14 by losing 8 pounds, from 186 to 178. I originally started walking, then added jogging. So, my waist and legs are a lot slimmer.
I'm another 5'2'' girl who wears a size 18/20....well, it's probably somewhere between 17/18 now, as my 18s are getting lose in the legs, which means the waist is not too far behind. I went from a size 20/22 to a size 18 in about 15-20lbs, so I imagine in another 10-15lbs I'll be back down to a size 16 if not smaller. I currently weigh 212lbs, and started at 235, but I lost my weight slowly (started losing in March, it's now July, only lost 23-25lbs since then, hah), so I imagine that by September/October, I'll be a bit closer to my 16s and 14s again. =)
For people of our height, 15-20lbs seems to be the average number for losing 1 pants size. =)
My goal is to be below 200lbs hopefully by September. =D Even if I'm just at 199, I will be happy to see a 1 instead of a 2. The pants size is also a goal, as I have plenty of 16s and a lot less 18s. If I can fit into them, I'd be set. =D
I'm an 18/20 hoping to get back down to a 14 myself, so I'm anxious to see how it goes and how it works. I'm only a month in, but I'm down 11 pounds. I haven't really seen a huge pants difference yet, but I'll be rooting for you!
thanks for the info, ladies! It gives me a little hope....I never appreciated a 14 when I used to wear it...I still thought I was too big. Now, that's what I hope to get back into. Ultimately, a size 12 would be GREAT. But, I'll take a 14 anyday! Good luck with your diet and exercise today ladies!
This is an excellent question as this is my next dietary goal. I have never worn a size 14 so this is a useful post for me. My current size 18 is a new thing to me, too. I've been extremely large all my life and since 14 is the introductory plus size I've decided to aim for it. Unfortunately, I'm a true sistah who has been blessed proportionally well in the North and South (ie big boobs and booty). My saving graces are a really small waist (little belly fat) and small legs (lots of treadmill time). So I have noticed that it takes me 20 pounds to transition between sizes. It will probably take me another 40 pounds and 3 months to reach this goal.
For me personally, I was 223 and a size 18 Canadian. Now I'm 212 and not quite out of the 18's, but into 16's as well. So about 10-15 pounds per size. I'm 5'7, with those big DDD's and 48" hips for comparison.
I was thinking a US Size 18 but that's a size 22 in UK sizes, right? So, the more comments, the merrier!
Bigbones...We're in the same boat...I'm now a proud DDD after spending a year in the F category....we actually have the same size hips...you're just WAY taller....which is good for you, because I look like a little M&M candy (short arms and legs and round body) at 5'3. :-)
I'm 5'7 and was wearing a size 20 at 250lbs. I'm down to 216 and I'm guessing I'm a 16, since my pants are literally falling off me, and I have some size 14s that I still can't quite fit into. I'm hoping I'll be in them by 200. Who knows, maybe sooner. :) So, yes, the 15 lbs per pant size sounds about right for my body.
i'm 5'3" and a size 20 at 254 lbs. i just started to fit into some of my size 18s today but the ones with a partial elastic waist band in the back (so they're zip up and button pants like the "norm" but with a little give in the back).
i should mention 2 things though that influence my size despite my being short: a) i'm appled-shaped (carry most of my weight in my chest and abdomen and upper body -- upper arms and back fat, eek!) as compared to pear shaped (more common) who carry their weight in their butt, hips and legs AND b) that i've been working at this weight loss stuff for over a year and have dropped close to 70 lbs so i am more muscular. in fact, i've been putting on more muscle since starting this weight loss stuff by exercise and eating more protein... so, although my weight shows what it is, my muscle percentage has increased and my body fat percentage has dropped dramatically since my journey started. i highly recommend tracking that to figure out how much it takes you to drop a size and to also look at the number of inches to get down to the next size. for me, the rule of thumb seems to be 8 lbs lost = 1 inch lost off my hips and waist.
also, note though that the size 18s at stores like ny&co are different from size 18Ws at other stores like lane bryant... all W clothes are cut larger (usually 1/2 an inch to an inch more). so, a 14W has almost the same cut as a 16 regular in NY&Co for instance.
I am 5'10'' and at about 300lbs in a size 20. Unlike many women I am fuller in the upper body (DDD's and all) meaning I have practically no butt. I would say it takes about 20lbs for each size for me.
