Since noone did this yet, I figured I'd start this off. :o)
I'm so ready to get this started, and if all goes well I will have a few pounds to give to my team! Come around and say hi, I want to know who I'm losing weight with for the next 12 weeks!
The last time I did something like this, it was amazing. I hope this is just as amazing! The question is, do we make up a name for ourselves or just keep it 'the purple team'?
Week One challenge (starts 8-1-08...ends ???) Sodium challenge!
Starting in August, we tackle a big monster...sodium. Commonly used as salt, it is essential for the body to function...but in much less amounts than are usually consumed.
The general consensus for sodium per day is 2400 mg. Most get much more than that, and this can lead to water retention. Noone wants that. So the time being, we will focus on lowering the amount of sodium in our diets. This can be done by not consuming certain foods. Suggestions are:
- Anything canned.
- Crackers.
- Soups.
- Seasonings
- *gasp* Salt!
Going for the low-sodium variety of foods is a great way to cut sodium consumption. Using alternates of certain seasonings helps, and keeps your food tasting great! (Mrs. Dash is a personal favorite)
So if you're game, let's kick sodium's tail. :)

I'm new to the challenge part of CC but hope this challenge will keep me motivated.
I vote for a name but am creatively challenged. Hope you all can come up with a good one :)
I would like to loose about 15-20lbs for this challenge which may be a bit aggressive but what the heck.

Hi, everyone! How is everyone doing today? I honestly cannot wait until tomorrow's weigh-in!
This is just the kick in the butt that I need: I started running a few weeks ago, and knowing I have to answer to a group of fellow exercisers will keep me motivated. It worked last time - I lost heaps of weight!
GO PURPLE! We're gonna win this. :)
As for a team name, I think a new name might be fun. Last year we were pirates and we talked like pirates all of the time. It was really dorky, but I think it'd be funny in general to have a unified, unofficial name!
Hello Everyone!! I'm so happy about this! Just like everyone has said...it's nice to have some motivation to get me going! I saw that the teams were posted and I already went out for a long walk with my son in his stroller. It's nice to hear that you lost so much weight, Goddess9. And yes...purple team rocks!
Hi everyone! Thanks so much Goddess9 for starting the team thread! I did this challenge for the previous 12 weeks and my team was so super supportive that we were like a family. It was great! I hope we can bond and encourage each other like that!

Question to anybody that can answer: CC say I need atleast 1500 for my daily calorie intake so if thats true and I eat around 1200-1400 will that keep me from losing weight or will that just help me lose weight faster??

1500 to maintain or to lose weight? You should always eat at least 1200/day to keep your metabolism going. It would really depend on your deficit for the week. 500 calorie deficits per day x 7 days = one pound lost, hypothetically. A safe range is 0.5-2 pounds per week, but I see you're on the smaller side, so a pound a week is great going for you. As long as you're eating at least 1200 calories (and even more on days you work out), you'll be fine.
Cristin, I know what you're talking about! I did this about the same time last year and I was honestly rooting for everyone and everyone was supportive of me in turn. Here's to being unified for the next 12 weeks! We can do it. :)
Korali, the weigh in is tomorrow. As a friendly reminder, everyone needs to poke their heads in to weigh in at the very least...but I'd love to see everyone stick around and get to know one another as a team.
I just did 77 minutes of exercise today, woohoo!
Okay, once this gets started up I may steal an idea from the last challenge I was a part of. We'd challenge each other to certain things each week. For instance, one week everyone would have to try and get 64 oz. of water in a day. Or eat 3-4 piece of fruit and veggies a day. Anyone game for that?

I've never done a challenge on CC before, really I'm pretty new to the site, but so far it has got me really motivated and I'm hoping that this challenge gets me even more amped up! Good luck to everyone on the team and I'm game for any team challenges you guys want come up with!

Trendy ~ Team Irys (variation on the spelling of the purple flower)
Kooky ~ Team Barney (after the somewhat annoying, overweight dinosaur)
My pre-teen's suggestion ~ Purple Peeps
For Prince fans ~ Purple Reign (as in purple will reign supreme)
Hello my fellow purple teammates! Nice to see we have a good group of us here.
I was part of a challenge about half a year ago but ended up dropping out because I panicked when my weight temporarily fluctuated upwards one weigh-in. I've become a little more accustomed to my body since then so I'm looking to stick through this until the end.
Can't wait to meet the rest of the team and also to weigh-in with you guys each week :)
Oh and I'm also creatively challenged, unfortunately. Can't wait to hear more ideas from the rest of the team though.

You should honestly be eating back the calories you burned off during exercise...I know, I know. Sometimes I don't feel like eating them back, either. Why burn them off if you're just going to eat them back? But when you think about it, it makes sense. You're still down 200 or whatever amount you burned off. Hypothetically, yes, if you do eat more than 1200 but less than whatever your goal is (I'm assuming that's 1500), you should lose weight. :)
Great, then I'll start throwing out ideas for the next week (starting tomorrow!) How about starting off relatively simple? A water challenge - 64 oz. of water or more a day for a week.
How about Barney's Revenge? It's kind of menacing, but silly. I'm sorry, but I crack myself up. LMAO. I can imagine Barney with a 50 pound dumbbell in the gym, looking mean as hell. Okay, I'll stop haha...

I think of Barney when I think of purple, but I don't know if that's a good name, since he is pudgy, himself.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
