my estimated cal burn is 2100 cals.
i donate blood once in three months (didn't do it during this diet).
i'm a heavy smoker (50 cigarettes a day).
i work from home and go out for half an hour a day to walk my dog and cat.
i'm a 29 YO male.
i started my diet about 10 days ago. i was at 166.2. now, after some meals, i weigh 160.5 (it was 159 yesterday). my goal is to reach 155.
the only change in my food that i've made was cutting some carbs and fat. my average intake now is about 1500 cals a day. I don't do excercises due to my heart problems. however, every second day I drink 2 liters of beer (about 800 - 850 cals) - let's say that I like the vitamin B in it :)
i usually drink the same amount of water (2-3.5 liters a day + veggie and friuit jiices, soups...) and I eat food with normal amounts of salt (so, dehidration is not an issue).
the food that i eat is more or less of the same quality as before the diet (organic vegetables and fruits, fresh milk that I use for making my own cheeses, yogurt and kefir... whole grain flour that i make the bread of - i bring the wheat to an old traditional watermill...)
could it be that the cal count is wrong? or the burn meter?
i expected to lose about 2 punds by now, but i got shocked when i saw what the scale said (it's a precise digital scale).
although i feel well and even have more energy to do things, i'm worried about loosing this fast (6 pounds so far)...
is there anyone who could tell me if this is OK, or should I quit the diet (i just started liking it)?
any people with the same problem?
It's normal to lose 5-6 lbs the 1st week. It's mostly water weight. How tall are you? What size frame do you have (by the wrist test)?
I set my activity level at sedatary (sp?) and log in my exercise to get the precise amount of calories I burn. You might want to try that.
Sounds like you eat healthy, so that's good. :)
Make sure you eat AT LEAST 1500 cals/day though. You don't have much further to go! Good luck!
thanks for your reply...
i don't think it's the water weight, as i did not change my eating habits a lot, and I tend to eat a bit saltier than before. i did cut off my home made bread, but didn't my home made fries (now i pre-soak them in a very hot water first for half an hour and make them in a deep frier - they absorb almost no fat!). instead of bread, i eat my unskimmed yogurt (made of the freshly milked milk, about 3.8 of milkfat) with wheat bran.
however, i don't know if cooking and steeming my food count the same, but i tend to use my steamer (food tastes much better) and i enter the steamed food in the log as cooked or boiled.
regarding my height... i'm 176 cm tall (i guess it should be about 5'9'').
again, I don't do exercises, and walking my dog and a cat (very slow pace, as they are both three-legged) shouldn't count.
am i burning my muscles instead of fat?
you also asked about the wrist.... well, my middle finger and thumb can touch, but i'm quite unproportional (and not worried about that). the most of my fat is in my legs and belly, and i want to get rid of that. basically i did not notice the change in my upper body, but now i already do need to wear a belt with my old jeans.
to make it shorter, i like the change that i feel (i don't have any health related side-effects), but i'm still worried about loosing this fast (especially because of people saying that they can't easily get rid of the last few pounds). i just don't want to go underweight again (as i struggled to gain some few years ago)....

yes. i tend to adopt animals who wouldn't have a chance to survive elsewhere (especially in the street). We also have 8 adopted parrots, one parrot that was bought, and an adopted cannarian. 12 pets all together!
Hi, I am new, this is my first week, just getting the hang of entering the food log, but I dont understand anything about the BURN meter, what is it all about and what should I do with it?????????
I'm 57, 342lbs and arthritic
Hope someone can help.
