I just drank over 80 oz in the past hour, and I'm STILL thirsty. I have heard you can drink too much water (don't know how much that is though!) so I'm wondering if I should just let myself be thirsty for a bit tonight or if I should keep drinking water.
I already know I'll be up making trips to the bathroom all night but it has kinda been like that for a while now so I'm not too concerned with that. I just don't know what to do =\
Water poisoning is down to there being an imbalance of electrolytes to water thanks to more water coming in to the body than it can then filter out again. It causes the swelling of cells, which can ultimately include the ones in the brain. You need to be aware if you start feeling light headed or sick, or out of sorts. Give yourself a while of not drinking anything and see if you still feel thirsty.
But, yeah. If you feel at all dizzy, nauseous, or get a headache, let someone know (and tell them why you're worried). I've seen someone collapse of water intoxication and it isn't fun. :[
Drinking too much water isn't good for you. Leave off the water for a while and just focus on eating healthy things for the rest of the day. Exercise some of your self-control; you can drink water tomorrow anyways.
Consider this. I myself once landed in the HOSPITAL due to an electrolyte imbalance brought upon sweating a lot+drinking heavy amounts of water+drinking a lot of red tea (which I later found it out to be a diuretic)... I started feeling extremely nauseous, puked everything I ate, had an unbearable headache... I eventually fainted... My doctor tells me I COULD'VE F@!%KING DIED had the ambulance not arrived in time. This happened last year, on Christmas eve.
And if anything, I agree with gi-jane, you should check with your doc. Although considering you're on CC, and probably following a healthy diet, it's unlikely that you have diabetes ;)
You don't need that much water, unless you have some sort of strange medical condition, like kidney disorders, or something psychological like psychogenic polydipsia which I doubt.
Whoa, hundreds of ounces of water? 64 is the recommended amount per day and exceeding that by a doubled or tripled amount could be dangerous. I'm no doctor and I can't tell you what a safe level to stop is, but you should probably stop drinking it right away, and like everyone else has said, if you start feeling nauseous, light-headed or generally ill you should call a doctor or go to the hospital right away. Last year or the year before someone died on a radio show from drinking too much water in not very long a time. Have you had an excessive amount of exercise or activity today? Is it exceedingly hot where you are? Maybe you can take a shower instead of drinking water - maybe it'll make your body feel cooler and less thirsty?
