I started about 1.5 weeks ago, and I feel like I haven't done anything right. At first I ate around 1,250 (my goal as 1,300), but now I'm eating 1,350 or 1,400. I feel like I'm cheating myself and not going to lose the weight. I'm just so frustrated! The only way I ever lost weight was by eating 500 calories or less in a day. I know that's not healthy, but I feel like I'm just going to stay where I am doing what I'm doing now. I exercise every day too.
My exercise: Run at 6mph 4-8 miles
Give your metabolism another few days. Keep up your good work and add some exercise, even a 30 minute walk. You haven't failed until you've given up.
You're not a failure. Maybe you're not eating enough. Running at 6mph for 4-8 miles every day must burn a ton of calories. Maybe your body thinks it's in danger of starvation with so few calories and so much exercise. Also, make sure you're drinking enough water. Good luck!
I agree with the others - you're not a failure. I always give myself a 100 calorie window around my goal caloric intake because it's really hard to get it exactly right. The main thing is that you are still getting a calorie deficit... that's all that really matters when it comes to weight loss. Hang in there! ![]()
If you are running that much, you probably need to eat more. You will burn approximately 100 cals/mile, and you don't want your deficit to be too big, that can interfere with weight loss too. Find a BMR calculator online and figure out what you burn without any activity (that is what the BMR is). Eat at least that because you will burn a lot more with activity, esp. the running. You'll lose about a pound a week if you eat 500 cals less than you burn, and that's a good number to aim for if you are really active because you may actually be burning more than you realize and you don't want to have a deficit bigger than 1000 for any reason.
Good luck.
Hi there - 1.5 weeks is waaaay too soon to feel like a failure :) Not that I'm saying you ever should feel like a failure, but you've only just started. I've been at this crap for 2 years now, lost 25 pounds, then gained 35, now have 30 more to lose :P I mean, you'd think I would have figured it out when I lost the weight, but I didn't realize how easily it would come back on. So, you're totally on the right track - however, you need to make sure you're not starving yourself. Running that much, that fast will burn a lot of calories and you really should have a max deficit of 1000-1500 calories per day. How much do you have to lose? Starting/goal weight/height? Having 500 calories a day will just make you waste away, muscle and all, so maybe you need to expect a slower but healthier weight loss with a more reasonable caloric intake per day.
Everyone just needs to chill, then go do some research and reading.
Like others have said, you are probably starving your body for the calories you need. I think you are only a failure if you give up, or you cheat yourself.. To me cheating is: eating something, and not recording it, or underestimating the calories. I think if you are honest with yourself on what calories are eating you are already a success because you are taking control of your body.
The next step is just finding the right balance between food and exersize. My personal balance is NO EXCERSIZE, and watch every calorie. I think it is much more difficult to calculate calories burned acturately, but it is very easy to calculate calories eaten. (Everthing has a nutricion label.)
Your first week, or two weeks should be the breaking in phase and just getting used to counting the calories, and practice eating 5-6times/day, the following weeks should be when you concentrate aiming for the calorie goals.
If you find that after 3 weeks something is no changing, then you re-evaluate what you are doing and come here for advise(it is not profesional though) Then, change your strategy because obviously it is not working, and I think for 90% of the posters on here complaining about not losing any weight it is probably the case, of too much excersize and not enough calories eaten.
Hang in there. Remember you should be aiming for 500calorie daily deficits, not 3500calorie daily deficits.
hey sunsmile,
I started working out and couting calories in January (even though I just signed up here) Honestly it took me around 2-3 months to see any results whatsoever. And the real results are happening right now - I lost about 8lbs and look smaller than before. It just takes A REALLY LONG TIME. I would love to see results right away but its almost impossible.
So, don't worry, chin up, and keep working.
Stats please: weight, height, age.
