i love cottage cheese and tomatoes! is it good with tuna??? do you heat it up or something?
My personal favorite combination is cottage cheese, black beans, and diced tomatoes.  Sautee them (seriously) in a hot pan, just until the cottage cheese melts a little bit, throw a little seasoning salt, and dump the whole mess on a plate.  It's FANTASTIC.
*sniff* Cottage cheese and tomato eaters make me so proud..
Mmmm----just tried 1/2 c. cottage cheese mixed with 1/2  of a diced pear (fresh) and a sprinkle of cinnamon.----it was REALLY GOOD! I'll had some honey next time :)
i got the idea from YOU, celdel!
i eat cottage cheese for breakfast every morning... i love it. i never get sick of it! i mix it with all bran cereal and cinnamon. it's crunchy and delicious!

-my mother's old combo - a piece of fruit (pear or peach or pineapple ring) topped with cottage cheese topped with a tsp of mayonnaise.  It gets old after a while, though, believe me.

-cc topped with paprika, black pepper and spicy relish (I like muffaleta, but girardinara would probably be good too).

-having had Indian dishes with chunks of cheese in them, cc would probably taste good with curry.  You be the guinea pig on that one.

-green salad.  Cottage cheese in green jello.  You'll have to look up a recipe.  Highly addictive at summer picnics.
Add hot sauce and garlic powder for an amazing veggie dip/salad dressing!

Garlic and dill weed are also good for dipping veggies in, but not as good as the hot sauce. Man I love that stuff. ;)

My fav. things to do with cottage cheese:

1. "Pumpkin cheesecake oatmeal" Ingredients: 1/2 cup oats. 1/4 cup canned pumpkin. 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese. 1 cup vanilla soy milk (or milk of your choice) 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. 2 dashes of pumpkin pie spice. 1 dash of salt. Splenda (or sweetener of your choice) to taste. Heat milk and oatmeal. Make sure to stir continuously so that nothing gets stuck to the bottom. When it begins to boil, mi in the pumpkin. Then mix in the cottage cheese. Reduce the heat and keep stirring! Stir in the salt, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon. After well blended, let it cool off and stand for about 5 minutes. Stir in the splenda and enjoy! It sounds strange but it's soooo yummy. And much more healthy than real pumpkin cheesecake. It's like eating dessert for breakfast. =)

2. Peel and chop up an apple. Place in a bowl with about 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese. Add some cinnamon and splenda and microwave for about a minute.

3. Eat it with pierogies.

4. Eat it fresh fruit. (I like it with pineapple, peaches, persimmons, berries, pears, etc.)

5. Eat it with crackers. I love Kashi TLC 7 grain crackers, Triscuits thin crisps and wheat thins.

6. In sandwiches. I've never been a big mayo fan but just a little bit of low fat cottage cheese of my sandwiches or veggie burgers make them so much more satisfying...

As you can tell I LOVE cottage cheese too! I also tried some light swiss laughing cow cheese today and MAN it was yummy. And they come in these cute little wedges. You should totally try them if you haven't already!

oh heck yeah!
laughing cow cheese and COTTAGE cheese are two of the MANY staples I keep in my fridge :)
have you tried any of the flavors other than swiss? I haven't and I am curious if the fr. onion is any good??
Cottage cheese IN pierogis.. Oh man.. I can't wait to go back to my mom's house.  Kielbasa, pierogis, paluzki... PACZKIS!

xD I'm going to get fat again.

Low fat Friendship is my favorite.

I like to put a large spoonful on a cup of whole grain pasta.

In a whole grain tortilla with ground turkey or chicken.

Mix with tuna in lieu of mayo.

Make a homemade Mac and cheese with it,

mix 2 cups cooked whole grain pasta with a tablespoon of Smart Balance buttery spread.  One triangle of laughing cow (I love the garlic one).  1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 1 teaspoon of lowfat parmasan.  4 Tablespoons of Light soy milk (I like the Vanilla it makes it sweeter) and top with whole grain crackers (crumbled) and shredded light mozzarella.  Put in the oven at 375 for about 10/15 minutes until golden brown.

I LOVE it on toast, and I also make salads with it.  Just some spinach, cottage cheese, and a fruit of choise.  My faves are blueberries, raspberries, or grapes.  Delish!
Confession: I have NEVER tried cottage cheese. I was always put off by the texture but cheese is one of my favorite foods. I'm sorry that this deviates from the OP a little but for all you cottage cheese lovers can you describe what it tastes like? Does it taste like cheese? Like yogurt? I'm actually really curious and this thread has pretty much convinced me to finally give this stuff a try.
sweetblea:
WHAAAAAT?~!!!!  Oh you pooor poor thing! How can you POSSIBLY have missed out on the FANTASTIC world of COTTAGE CHEESE!
for a first time tryer,..i wouldn't go NON-FAT----go with like 2% or something. And I like the LARGE CURD kind......Specifically,..I buy FRIENDSHIP 2% Pot Style :)
Hmm---as far as WHAT it tastes like. It is very mild..umm------hard to give you a description! Because it is SO mild,---it is FANTASTIC paired with things, on things, or just BY ITSELF is wonderful :)
Some don't like the texture,..but it has NEVER once bothered me in the slightest!
SO glad we've convinced you to give it a try. If you want,....BREAKSTONE has single serving portions that you could try as your FIRST TIME :)------they also have single serving portions paired with different kinds of fruits...pineapple, etc.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! :)
i just discovered a new way to use cottage cheese, when i was making chicken and dumplings and didn't want to use buttermilk in the dumplings.  i liquefied it in the blender with some 2% milk and used that instead.  the dumplings turned out just fine, if a teensy bit rubbery.  but my new thing:  i had some of the cottage cheese/milk mixture left over, and put it on a baked potato like sour cream... i PREFER it to sour cream!  and bf, who has no interest in or need for "diet" food, liked it too.
wow lileberly i think it is safe to say you have a passion for cottage cheese lol! I will definitely be trying it! I'm a pretty adventurous eater so it is strange that I have managed to go so long without ever trying cottage cheese. It's so fun to discover new good diet foods!

Nah I've only tried the swiss SO FAR. =) I will definitely try the french onion soon. I love french onion dip so I bet the laughing cow cheese will be great.

Us cottage cheese fanatics should stick together. =P

Happy Holidays!

cottage cheese + cut up banana + cinnamon = heaven :o)

I've heard from a couple friends that mixing Cottage Cheese and Worcestershire Sauce is the only way to eat it!

I haven't tried it that way yet but I prefer simplicity - mixed with dill and fresh tomatoes!
