Hello all. I am new to the whole dieting thing and would really like to reach a goal weight of 135lbs. I am 5'8 and currently 154lbs. I want to reach a zone in which I am comfortable with my body and for some reason I have it in my mind that 135lbs would be ideal.
Any thoughts?
i was at 175 and am currently at 149 and want to be at 135 as a goal. i am 5'5". so, i'd say you have a pretty good goal in mind. why don't you try the challenge with me?

135 might be a tad too small for you. from my understanding, doctor's recommendations are that you add 5 pounds to the starting weight of 100 lbs. for every inch over 5 feet you are. using that, a good weight would be 140 pounds for you.
but that depends on a number of factors: your body frame (this site can help you with that), your amount of muscle (don't forget it weighs more than fat but looks WAY thinner), the amount of water you tend to carry, your enthinicity, your family members' body compositions (are most of the women in your family heavier/thinner?), and your body's natural, comfortable amount of fat. some of these things you can't measure yourself unless you get specific tools or scales (they're on the internet, or your doctor can measure you). and some of these things you can't fight. the point is, the number on the scale is ultimately not the most important thing. what's most important is how healthy you are, how fit you feel, and how good you feel about yourself.
On a 5'8 small frame, 130-135 is perfect. If you're a medium frame, 135-140 would look great. If you're a large frame, 140-145 is the area you should be aiming for. This is just a generalisation, though - you could be a small frame and look amazing at 150lbs, who knows?
