Using Tagged items

We all hate to ask "silly" questions, but I thought I could tag each part of my ham sandwich and then just have to add "ham sandwich". If I am right, how do I do this? If not, how can I make this process easier. Adding each ingredient is way too ****.

Yes, you can do that. The first time you add a food, there is an easy-to-see option to tag the item. If it's already tagged, click on the "E" for edit and add tags. You can have multiple tags on the same item separated by commas. Each tag can be more than one word. So you might have "ham" tagged as meat, ham sandwich. If you also have two slices of bread with the "ham sandwich" tag, then when you click on "ham sandwich" it automatically adds both items at once. You can of course tag as many items as you wish depending on how you like your ham sandwich. You might tag "swiss cheese" and "mustard" using the same "ham sandwich tag".
Yes you are correct, you can tag each part of your sandwich with the tag "ham sandwich" (or whatever you want to tag it as.)  When finished, your list of tagged items should show "ham sandwich" with a little arrow next to it.  When you click that arrow, it will add all the items you tagged as "ham sandwich" to your food log.

Hopefully that makes sense, and it's not a silly question at all!  :)

Terrific! I hadn't noticed the arrow! THANKS!

You could also add it as a recipe instead. If you click on the Food tab, click on New Recipe and then follow the directions for entering it. For example this is what I just entered for a Grilled Cheese sandwich I make.

2 slices bread [90492]
1 slice cheese [96003]

The numbers in brackets can be found at the end of the web address for each item's nutrition info page (i.e. http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/item/96003.h tml is the page for Sargento Cheddar slices). That way it uses your exact ingredients.

Only thing is, you if you save it for later, you would have to enter "directions" for preparation (You could just say, "Put together to make a sandwich") It would also then become available to the community to use and view.

Hope it helps.

And as an added tip, when you do tag your items for your ham sandwich make sure you are tagging them in the quantity you are using for your sandwich.

For example, make sure you have the bread tagged at 2 slices rather than 1 slice (if you're using 2 slices).  That way it is as accurate as you need it to be and you don't have to go back and fix the quantity.
