I have heard people say that can't stand the idea of a greasy cheese burger, sweets, salty food, ________ ever since they have started dieting and exercising.
Do you feels that's true for you?
Do you think your sense of smell has changed?
Perfumes no longer smell good like they used to? maybe prefer different kinds of perfumes?
My sense of smell hasn't changed at all. But my tastebuds are much more sensitive to salty/greasy and even sugary foods. I almost choked the other day when I ate an olive by itself...i love olives..but they're too salty! I definitely can't drink soda anymore..it burns my throat! I love that these foods/drinks are no longer appealing to me anymore! I just wish more restaurants offered a bigger variety (or any at all) of healthier options, because even if the greasy/salty foods were less calories..I would not want them!
I don't think my smell has changed, but I do know that I used to LOVE hot dogs. I switched to turkey dogs, tho, and for about a year I ate those instead b/c they were better for me. The whole time I envied those who ate reg tho. Just a few days ago, I actually cut a reg. in half and tried to eat it. It was DISGUSTING; so greasy and hard to chew because of the grease. Now I don't even want to eat them :/
I've never liked beef, I won't eat it not even before my diet. But now I noticed for some reason I like the smell of it cooking. I usually think its because I am lacking iron, so I eat spinach and I am good to go.
My tastes are really different now. I use to LOVE salt I mean LOVE it! Now I find things too salty. Pizza was my favorite food, now I don't really like it unless I make it and I can control whats on it and how much cheese there is. I can't get a take out one the way I want it
I always think they are too greasy. Then I can't get past the taste of grease, it kinda sucks. I use to love hot wings but now, I don't I'd rather have Morning Star buffalo chicken bites. Lol, its really weird how picky I am now. I don't like normal butter, its gotta be a spray butter. Last night when I went out to dinner with my sister and BIL I ordered my dinner and said no to butter and no sour cream for my potato and the lady kept asking me until I was like "No I want just a plain potato please!". She then proceeded to look at me like I was completely insane. I hate trying to go out to eat its so hard to get anything thats good and actually healthy, other than SubWay.
I feel my senses have not changed. But they have sharpened. I can taste the pleasant subtleties in what I used to consider bland food. And the food I used to like is even more enjoyable since I realize "this is something special" when I'm eating it.
I've yet to come across ANY food that is too sweet/rich for me. ![]()
French fries don't taste as good to me as they used to. I don't really mind because they upset my stomach now!
The biggest change is salty things. I had some restaurant French fries for the first time about two months ago and couldn't believe how salty they were! I can't believe I once ate those without noticing all that salt! I used to like salt, too...
I kinda have the feeling that there might be something to the idea.
Personally my taste in perfume has changed. Some perfumes just seem bad that i've liked in the past. They are too strong now? I'm more picky about sweets and never cutting back my salt find it even more tasty!
I kinda wonder if it might be we are savoring our food a bit more?? or bodys are a bit more sharpener??
so many of our senses are inter linked just kind makes you wonder?
It's kind of hard to explain...It's like, I still like the thought of eating like I used to (pizza, ice cream, cake, etc.) and it's like, I think I want some ________, but if I think about eating it, I don't think I want it because I realize it wouldn't taste as good anymore. It's like I only miss the enjoyment I used to get out of it...or something. People always offer me cake and pizza, and then when I turn it down they say it's because I'm afraid of getting fat. That isn't true, I just honestly don't want those foods anymore and they aren't worth it to me. I have no *desire* for those foods, so why eat them if I won't enjoy them? That's my thinking anyways...
and I just realized that probably makes no sense..haha but I'm tired and bad with words anyways...
I have become super sensitive to salt too. I can't add salt to anything or it's just too much. My mom steamed some asparagus the other night and told me she didn't add anything. Turns out she added a *tiny* sprinkle, but it was overwhelming to me. I couldn't eat another piece =(
As far as smell, I've just learned to like different smells like I have tastes. I used to hate onions and the smell of them, now I like onions, and the smell of them. As far as perfumes go, though, I still use the same ones or the same kind =)
But yeah...now I crave apples and cucumbers instead of pizza and ice cream!
I'm still fairly new into this. When I do get around foods i used to love and crave it's just not the same anymore. I'll take a bite of something and think "wow this doesn't taste nearly as good as i remembered it". It's kind of like having a favorite restaraunt, then they get a new chef and your old favorite just doesn't "do" it for you anymore. If by chance I do want ice cream or something I'll have a skinny cow bar and it'll usually do the trick.
Well, this is actually incredibly funny to me now, but after about a week of dieting, everything I cooked on my stove or in the oven started to smell like chocolate. Seriously. I cleaned everything just to make sure it wasn't something burning, but it was still there every time I cooked something. For instance, I'd be cooking a pork chop, and I'd think, "Hmmm, why does it smell like brownies in here?"
It seems to have stopped now, and I have no idea why! Hahaha.
situationgirl- Were you craving chocolate at the time?
Absolutely. I can't stand the smell or taste of sugary sweets any more. It just sets my teeth on edge. Also, when I eat anything greasy, it just seems to coat my mouth and stay with me all day. Yesterday, I decided to have a splurge day and bought a Digiorno's single serving pizza. I ate it, but I don't think I'll be doing that again. It just wasn't as satisfying as I remember.

i still like the smell of unhealthy foods actually, but they dont taste as appealing anymore. i had pizza the other night and gelt terrible afterwards. and fries just arent as great anymore...im not complaining though!
Otherwise... I probably love my sugary and fatty foods just as much as always.
Unfortunately.
Not smell, but taste buds are much keener now.
I think my body went through detox and recovered from the over indulgence of sugar and salt that is in most of our foods (mostly processed junk that we eat). For me sense of smell was already fairly good - kinda thing that got me in trouble. But the taste buds have definitely recovered from the bad foods.
I am a lot more discerning when it comes to the food I eat. However I do indulge in junk food on occasion, but I find that most things are not as tasty as I thought they were. I know prefer to go for grilled stuff rather then fried.
So to answer the question, yes I've noticed a difference in taste and smell. I am a foodie and love to try different things, healthy or unhealthy. My problem is mainly that I used to be an excessive eater.

No, not especially. It just seemed to appear every time I cooked.
Heh still love the salt, but I haven't cut back on that any (mmm salt). My hubby told me he was concerned about me, because he didn't think I was drinking enough liquids. He keeps finding only half-drunk cans of diet soda, and he knows I don't like water. I had to point out I drink about a pot of tea every day at work, so I'm not dehydrated :) But I do think I'm losing my taste for soda altogether. He made up some lemonade for me, and even that was too strong. I have to cut mine with regular water. So, yeah, I think I'm losing my affinity for plain sugar (or plain fake sugar).
Never liked greasy foods to begin with - but I am noticing that the love of fatty foods had more to do with the salt than with the fat. Hence my lack of cutting back on salt, but having a breeze of a time reducing fat :)
Crazy as it sounds, but I think my sweet tooth is losing its control...
