what are calories in Groats vs Steel cut oats?

Quote  |  Reply
I buy it bulk, with no calories on bag.  My old fashioned oatmeal is 150 per 1/2 cup.

I'm seeing both;

1/2 C = 150 calories

1 C = 150 calories

Normally I take the larger amount to be cautious, but if its only 150 for 1 C, thats a lot of calories I could save.

thanks

Steel cut is 150 for 1 cup cooked (1/4 cup raw) according to my package. I don't know what a groat is

Edit:  I should say, I've never measured it cooked -- but I use a cup of water to cook it in and it certainly fills my bowl -- so I was guessing it to be 1 cup, but could be 1/2 cup, I gue

Groats are the same thing.  These are steel-cut groats.  They have to cook 1/2 hr, so I make a large batch and keep it in the fridge and just nuke 1 C for breakfast.

just googled several sites.  Many have 'uncooked' calories, and it seems to be 150 for 1 cup so I'll go with that.
Steel cut uncooked is 150 for 1/4 cup which cooks up to about a cup, according to the packages on all of the steel cut oats I've ever bought. Rolled oats are 1/2 uncooked --> 1 cup cooked, also 150 cals.
ok, thanks.  Whew, 150 a C is a lot better than 300 calories a cup.
