Protein or other bars...

Ok, so I recently tried out those Snickers Marathon Nutrition bars.  I made a topic about them too, and I love them (150 calories, and chock full of a bunch of vitamins and minerals, and 7g of fiber and 11g of protein).  Now, I'm sure there are other similar things out there...

Now, what are your experience with bars?  This is my ultimate dream bar:

Hard to chew... You have to chew on it, but it's still tasty with the chews.  It somewhat expands in your mouth, I suppose.  Basically, it's hard to eat, and ends up taking a while to finish it.

My friend described Clif Bars as being like this, but I'm not totally sure.  I'd like a little more out of the bar for the calories, and it seems that the Marathon Nutrition ones I'm eating now are better.  But the way I described it would be a dream come true... I know I've must have had something in the past like it to describe it.  My brother has always been a health nut and loves to work out, and sometimes got a few boxes of protein bars at GNC (he also loves bargains, he got the whole boxes for like $3.50 when they were on sale), and I had probably ate one.

Clif bars are nothing like your dream bar description. It's more like a granola bar that's more dense. They're tasty but have a lot of sugar.

The Kashi Golean Rolls are amazing and hard to chew.

I get the ones that are 180 calories.  I love them so much I buy them in bulk.

Lamp is totally on point. The Kashi Rolls are very yummy but very difficult to chew. It definitely takes some jaw muscle to work your way through. Be sure to get the Rolls or the Chewy labeled ones, with rolls being the biggest chew (think Charleston Chew level of chew). The other Kashi bars are not that difficult to eat. I agree that Clif bars (as well as Luna, Lara, Zone, Atkins, or really any other bar I can think of) are not that chewy.

Ok, I went to the store tonight and looked around.  They had a box of those Kashi Rolls, but there was only one left, and it looked sort of smashed up ('twas the oatmeal and walnut, but I think I'd like to try out that chocolate turtle one more...), so I got this other bar I felt that was pretty hard.  ZonePerfect or something... It's dark chocolate or something, and the wrapper is black.  Has 190 calories and 12g of protein, but only 1g of fiber (yeah, not liking that much either).  I'll be out tomorrow, and I'll look for that Kashi Roll.  I'll tell you guys how things go over the passed two days as to which I think was better.

By the way, does every place sell those Kashi Rolls?  I was at Wal Mart, and all I did see was the box for the oatmeal and walnut.  Then again, the Wal Mart is completely changing the whole store over this long process, so a lot of stuff is mixed up until they finish it, which won't be for two months.

Okay, I have to say that I am with you. If I am going to eat 240 calories, I want to enjoy it for more than two seconds. I like the cliff bars. I have only tried the chocolate brownie (not very appetizing in apearance - but the taste is there). I like the price too - target has them at a pretty good price. I also like the power bar harvest toffee one. Although, it is a lot like eating a regular granola bar. I just read in Women's Health (may) that there is a website where you can design your own and they will ship it to you and possibly even name it after you. I think it is called youbar.com.  They are pricey though. Hope that helps!

Well, I ate the Zone Perfect bar.  Was not entirely what I expected!  I was squeezing it in the store, and it was so hard, I thought it was exactly what I was looking for.  Nope.  It was very delicious though.  But 1g of fiber?  Not going to purchase again.  As I mentioned before though, it was pretty tasty.

I hope I can find the Kashi Roll thing tomorrow.  I only saw the Oatmeal and Walnut at Wal-Mart, but I'm more interested in the chocolate turtle.  I'll be looking for it!

In regards to finding them....I try bars mostly when I find coupons for them. I eat a lot of the cereal Kashi GoLean! and for about three months every box had a $1 off a Kashi bar coupon. I had literally dozens of these and the bars are like $1.25. I wanted specific flavours and found that the selection is very different between stores. Target, Trader Joe's and Safeway (generic west coast grocery store) all had different types and flavors. I would look around at all the places. Target and Trader Joe's were the cheapest of all places I have seen (sports stores, corner stores, etc...).

Ok, these Kashi Roll! bars are amazing.  They're pretty much exactly what I wanted.  I'm enjoying the chocolate turtle now, and will be trying out the chocolate sundae tomorrow.

I found a really good protein bar once... although it was 300 calories, it had a whopping 27g of protein, and a mere 6 grams of fat. I found that I could usually chomp on half of it for lunch, and would be full until dinner. And they had that "hard to chew" consistency you mentioned. :)

If I ever see them again, I'll write the name down. They come in "chocolate fudge", "french vanilla", and "cookies 'n cream" flavours..
