Thought we could challenge ourselves for the month of September.
September 1st is on a Monday. It's also Labor day. Sept. has 30 days. With the days left in August you can easily find time to come up with 'your' game plan and share with the rest of the Gang. That way we can help each other with good ideas.
Consider your diet, exercise and water drinking.

Calculate Calories Needed for Goal Weight
You should consume about 1950 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 187 lbs.
This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 1.5 lbs per week, which should be reached by March 09, 2009.
Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. It may vary slightly depending on other factors.
CW: 164.0 as of this morning
GW range : 160-165 (I reached my goal three weeks ago-- currently in maintenance mode).
After spend the most of 2007 trying to lose weight (lost over 50 pounds this year), Going4Gold in 2008 represents my quest to break the habit of annual weight fluctuations, where I gain weight in the fall and winter and try to lose it in the spring/summer.
In addition to maintaining my weight in 2008, Going4Gold also means the following:
- lifting weights and working on my core region twice a week
- running 4-5 days/week (25 to 30 miles a week on average. but more when I'm training for a race)
- completing two marathons, a 50K race, and a 50-mile race, in addition to numerous 5K, 8K, 10K, and half-marathons
You all sound very motivated just what I need to do this especially during the Holidays. Thank you Danceswithforks for starting this thread and I will be ready to go on December 1st!
Have a great day!
Nicole
So far today is going good!

I decided to type up this initial roster so we can easily see who our fellow team-members are (in case you want to add each other as buddies, or have a handy references to names and screen names!) I was thinking that once a week or so, someone could update the roster with new members -- just add them to the bottom of the list -- so that we'd have a handy reference of who is also "Going for the Gold" in 2008!

I did my 30 minutes of cardio for today.
Burn meter says I burnt 2,338 calories, so that gives me a 849 calorie defecit!
See you all tomorrow!
Exercise -- jog/walk for 40 minutes, housework this evening.
Calories 1230. Didn't get any exercise, spent all day at the hospital with my delirious mom,....really rough day. I didn't eat the last 300 until almost 9:00 and now I am exhausted. I hope tomorrow she will be better, they had her on a pain pump and took her off of it this AM, she is just reacting very badly to the drug. I know in my mind it is only temporary, but my heart breaks to see her the way she is. Pray for her and me. Sorry this a downer for this forum, tomorrow will be better.

((( hug ))) Prayers for you and your mom, 4square. Hang in there, dear.

I will pray for you and your mom. I went through my Mom on too many steroids, wow, that was hard. So I know how you feel.
I had 2000 calories today and burned 345 which put me at 1655. I can live with that. Yesterday I didn't have nearly as much and woke up very hungry. It all evens out! Tomorrow I will shoot for a lot less. I drank about 6 glasses of green tea with agave sweetner and several glasses of water.

CC says if I do nothing I should lose weight at 1650 calories a day.
read below...

That is for a sedentary life style.
So on the days I don't exercise I will try to stay at or below this number. I don't want to take my calories too low because I think then when you lose it gets harder and harder. Of course, after every 20 pound loss I will recalculate!
Here is my size chart (jeans)based on several years ago, ha ha
300-280 size 24
280-260 size 22
260-240 size 20
240-220 size 18
220-200 size 16
200-180 size 14
Of course age and the clothes industry could have changed things for me now. I'm setting small goals, a size at a time. When I get to 260 I will have to start buying new clothes.
On page 2, I wrote that my goal for Dec 1, 2008 was a size 16. Maybe it will be a 14! Not sure if I can lose 100 lbs in a year. Anyone out there that knows someone who has, let me know.
NOTE: after I wrote that I googled it.
http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/diet-fitn ess/can-lose-100-pounds-in-year.html
From the food that I logged in, my macronutrient breakdown was:
16.9% Fat/ 36.4% Protein/ 46.7% Carbohydrates
44 grams of fiber
I'm guessing that my actual carb % rose a little once I account for the stuff I didn't log. Yesterday's workout included roughly 30 minutes of weight lifting (lower body) and 2 miles on the treadmill.
4square, I'm so sorry about your mom! Hopefully she'll be better soon!
Molly, I must say you do AWESOME with your veggies!! I struggle with that! I also have a hard time with my fat/protein percentages! I have a hard time keeping the protein higher than the fat!
Kim, I totally agree with your game plan! I just figured out how to work the expenditure/alllowance thing a few days ago and it says I need to eat like 1600 too. I really need to shoot for at least that or more when I do my cardio days. I think I need to eat a few more higher calorie meals, that way I'm not stuffing myself full of stuff trying to get up to that. Maybe I'll have a glass of juice before I go to bed. That would add on a 100 calories or so. I need to bake some healthy muffins or something and that would help too.
So anyways so good so far today!
The other day I ended up with like 1100? cal after I exercised and noticed I woke up the next day starving and seemed to have a strong appetite all day. Yesterday I ate more and wasn't ravinous this morning. I'm going to have to eat a little more and exercise a little more I think to keep from wanting to eat all the time. Lots of water and protien help that too. I bought a lean beef roast and a turkey breast so I could have some good protiens. I ate a whole bag of veggies yesterday. I do that a lot. I get the stir fry kind and just nuke them. Mrs. Dash is good on them. (table blend)
I should look into those frozen veggies!!!
Enjoy moving Gina! Sounds like it's going good so far!
OK, I totally believe this, please go check out the site! This is just a small protion.
I just ate a granny smith and chewed up the seeds! :)
http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-di et/vitamin-b-17-laetrile.htm Vitamin B-17 - Laetrile - Anti-Cancer Properties? The diet of primitive man and most fruit-eating animals was very rich in nitrilosides. They regularly ate the seeds (and kernels) of all fruits, since these seeds are rich in protein, polyunsaturated fats, and other nutrients. Seeds also contain as much as 2 per cent or more nitriloside. There are scores of other major foods naturally, or normally, very rich in nitriloside.
Vitamin B-17 (nitriloside, amygdaline) is a designation proposed to include a large group of water-soluble, essentially non-toxic, sugary, compounds found in over 800 plants, many of which are edible. These factors are collectively known as Beta-cyanophoric glycosides. They comprise molecules made of sugar, hydrogen cyanide, a benzene ring or an acetone. Though the intact molecule is for all practical purposes completely non-toxic, it may be hydrolyzed by Beta-glycosidase to a sugar, free hydrogen cyanide, benzaldehyde or acetone.
Apricot Kernels (Vitamin B17) Apricot Kernels are the richest source of B17 (Laetrile). Ernst Krebs is the world's leading authority on the relationship between cancer and nitrilosides, and the inventor of laetrile. Apricot kernels are known to prevent and cure cancer, even though the medical establishment has worked night and day and even lied to suppress it. Vitamin B17 is found in most all fruit seeds such as the apple, peach, cherry, orange, nectarine and apricot. It is found in some beans and many grasses such as wheat grass. The hard wooden pit in the middle of the peach is not supposed to be thrown away. In fact, the wooden shell is strong armor protecting one of the most important foods known to man, the seed.
It is one of the main courses of food in cultures such as the Navajo Indians, the Hunzas the Abkhasians and many more. Did you know that within these tribes there has never been a reported case of cancer? (And there are doctors and scientists from the U.S. living within these tribes right now studying this phenomena) We don't need to make the seed a main course but we do need the equivalent of about seven apricots seeds per day to improve our odd for a cancer-free life. Other foods that contain vitamin B-17 are: bitter almonds, millet, wheat grass, lima beans and more. (The bitter almond tree was banned from the U.S. in 1995.) The kernel or seed contains the highest amounts of vitamin B17.
