Please stop taking antidepressants!!! My sister just got off Zoloft she was going through an awful depression and it made her depression worse!! She was sinking deeper and deeper into a severe depression until she went to a doctor yesterday that looks in your eyes and can tell whats wrong with you he told her stuff that no one could have known without knowing her. Her problem you ask?? Her pitutary gland had bottomed out she had very very low seratonin left that's why it was because of the ZOLOFT!! He put her on some herbs and she is feeling much better now. Exercise is a natural way to build up your serotonin level!! Please stop taking antidepressants they only make the depression worse!!

VERY BAD ADVICE. do you not realize that antidepressants have actually SAVED ppl's lives??? Some people can now function as a happy human being thanks to these drugs. Perhaps your sister's case is a rare exception to the rule and NOT the rule??????

agentstarling, are you related to Tom Cruise???
Just because antidepressants did not work for your sister does not man that it doesn't work for other people. I don't think it's smart of you to tell people not to take thier meds just because it did not work for your sister. Meds work different for everyone!
I started gaining weight for the first time in my life when I went on antidepressants, but it never occurred to me that they were connected! I'm still trying to learn how to pay attention to my calories after a lifetime of a jackrabbit metabolism.
As for stopping antidepressants, no matter what your decision, don't stop cold turkey without a physician's advice. I was out of the country once and ran out, thus quitting abruptly. I nearly killed myself, literally.
Overall, I think if someone is concerned about their antidepressants they should at least consult the prescribing doctor before making any changes. Don't just walk in and say, "Can I quit?" Explain your concerns so your doctor can make the best choice for you. I was once on the wrong type for me and had to change to find one that was successful. If I took my son's Adderall it would be a disaster for me, but my son has a definite need for it. With any medicine what's good for one may be bad for another.
