Hey all...
My sister is getting married July 12th and I need some motivation and some challenge from others to shed the last of my baby weight to look hot in the dress! SOOO starting this Saturday I am going to start weighing in every Saturday in hopes of losing 16 lbs in the next 8 weeks! I would hope for more but I know it is only safe to hope for 2 lbs a week!!
So, who is in? Please only reply if you are serious to committing to the whole 8 weeks. The other challenge I joined has fizzled by week 6 and has left me unmotivated!!

Week 1and 2: Water challenge
drink half your body weight in water (e.g. for 180 pounds, you would drink 90 oz)
--OR--
__According to the Mayo Clinic the recommended water intake for men is 3.0 liters (13 cups) and women is 2.2 liters (9 cups/75 ounces).
Week 3: Fiber Challenge:
*Fiber is the part of plant foods that your body doesn't digest and absorb. There are two basic types: soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber adds bulk to your stool and can help prevent constipation. Vegetables, wheat bran and other whole grains are good sources of insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber may help improve your cholesterol and blood sugar levels. According to the Mayo Clinic ,
*Women need 21 to 25 grams of fiber* a day. So that's the goal! Eating fiber helps you feel full too!
(The smilies just help me to quickly locate those who are up to date with weigh ins.)

I've been doing pretty good the last 5 days or so, especially since I've been out and about with friends and still managed to stay within my calorie range. Today however, I binged a bit.
I've been really good at controlling my portion size until today at lunch and I just went overboard... This seems to happen every time I try to be really good. Does anyone have any great ideas that keep them from over eating? I'd love to hear them!
On a more positive note, I did some major arm workout today!

Hey everyone,
I also had a great day today. I woke up this morning knowing I had a million things to do and still squeezed in my 45 min of cardio - I think thanks to this group it keeps me motivated for my weigh in on Saturday.
I also bought these things called fit flops that I have read about and WOW they actually work. I wore them around the mall, to the grocery store and running my daughter around and my but and legs are sore (in a good way) like I did my strength training.
Keep up the great work everyone!!!!!

oh Bewitched I totally hear ya hunny!!!! it's like I get all sassy and think ya I can eat THAT I know when to stop and then
*BAM*
what the hell just happened? here's what works for me (sometimes)
* write in my journal here
* give myself a manicure/pedicure (you can't eat with wet nails)
* call a friend
I'm going to go back to stopping myself and figuring out if I'm actually HUNGRY or if I just emotional. sometimes matching a snack to my feelings helps:
SAD>> creamy comforting - yogurt + cereal or smoothie
MAD>> crunchy hard food - apples, carrots, multi grain flatbread type crackers or plain popcorn
like I said....SOMETIMES this is all I need to do. I find if I'm really tired, or if I've been putting everyone else first and putting stuff I'd like to do for me, that I tend to just throw all my healthy eating out the window!
just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back at it. one meal won't make that much difference -- it's what you do AFTER that counts!
Hey everyone,
I just got these labor day tips from hungry girl. I know BBQ"S are hard for me - a burger a few beers next ya know you blew it in a few hours.
I have so much coming up in the next few weeks - party's, weddings, vacations. If anyone has any suggestions to survival of the holidays that will keep everyone on track then please post.
ps. I would love if anyone has any cocktail recipes that are low cal. I am hosting a fairly large cocktail party next week and I know a lot of the girls are dieting.

I'd like to do this! I lost about 23 pounds but the last 5 keep creeping back up due to mindless eating. I know I don't have that much to lose, but these 5 pounds have been the bane of my existence for so long! 8 weeks will be good to lose it and maintain that loss.

awesome job waking up early to work out! I wish I had that disicipline!!
I'm totally in. I am having so much trouble keeping motivated. When I can stay on target with exercise & eating well, guess what, I lose weight and feel great. I really want to lose the last of my baby weight too (and maybe even some of the grad school weight) so I can fit into my summer clothes without them being so tight. I'm 5'4" and have 3 boys (5, 3 1/2, & 14 months). In some of the past challenges, there were weekly challenges that also helped keep me motivated, so maybe we can include some weekly challenges such as drinking enough water, eating enough fiber, various exercise challenges, logging foods, etc. I'm happy to try to post some of them.

yeah! i am so excited to see everyone jumping on the bandwagon and getting motivated to get thin. The best quote I ever heard about weight loss iss: "Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels". I would like to change skinny to healthy just to seem as if being thin doesn't materr, but it does....lol. I just want to get back to the point where I could get dressed for work without having to try on ten outfits to see which one makes me look the least fat!
Anyways, yesterday was a great day for me. Although I wanted ice cream and pizza with my friends, I opted to make a veggie pizza with chicken sausage and low fat cheese! I also got green grapes to eat instead of ice cream. NOW, I know you all don't know me that well yet, but that took a TREMENDOUS amount of discipline for me so yay!! I got on the scale this morning and it reflected my good work, but I will wait until Saturday to get the final weigh in before I post that!
Whatare some ways that you are going to resist your 'food demons' today? I brought a 100 calorie pack of hostess cupcakes to kill my sweet urge! The rest of my lunch is packed with fruit veggies and whole grains and lean proteins!
yeah.. how to resist food demons today... I've got my food planned out.. at least till I go home.
Not sure what I'm going to do about tonight.. we're going to a concert with my wife's parents... After work I have to drop my car off at the dealership for 15k maintenance... I'm thinking I might just walk home from there to not have to worry as much about food... that or spend the 4 hours walking around town window shopping or something.. but really.... how much shopping can I stomach? not that much LOL. wish me luck! its gonna be a rough week for loss...
concert tonight... out to the movies tomorrow night.. then camping all weekend with an awesome chef... hrm....
Sounds like everyone is on track. GREAT JOB!!!!! I got my wii fit this morning - wow there were a lot of crazy people there trying to get there hands on one (lol). It looks like a fun "extra" workout.
I just got home from working with my trainer for 1 1/2 hours and it hurts to type - no I am not kidding. She kicks my butt and I love it. If anyone watches the show workout with jackie warner - I call her my jackie.
Foods have been tough this week, my husband is the chair for the senior pga at our club so he is gone from 5 am till whenever and I hate to cook for just me and my daughter so I have been doing quick dinners and I am sure they are packed with sodium. I am going to just do chicken and veggies tonight and use the leftover chicken for a salad or something.
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!
bohdan...great idea planning out your food ahead of time. I pack my lunches the night before work so I don't go to the mall and get fast food!
zulu...fabulous job doing pilates... even 10 minutes is SOMETHING! I think you have inspired me to do my pilates ab workout tonight. Lets pray my lil man goes to sleep a bit early so I can!
walnut hill... I am so jealous you have a trainer! I wish I could afford one! I don't watch workout, but from the commercials I have seen I am sure you get one hell of a workout!!
Also, welcome to cdanda, barnaby, because7, whitney86, and missjester. I think I was able to welcome everyone else through messages! I am going to updates the original post with starting weights for this challenge, so please make sure to post your starting weight for THIS challenge. We can also have a biggest loser of the week! I will figure out how to calculate body loss percentages so it is fair!
I am LOVING this challenge!

I LOVE the idea of having weekly challenges! Lets have the challenge of drinking LOTS of water this week. How much are you supposed to drink daily? I have heard 8 cups or half your body weight in ounces? What should we do???
Tamji, Thanks for the encouragement and the advice! I know I'm totally an emotional eater so I'll have to try your tips!
I've been staying in my calorie range (1400-1500) for the past 10 days or so, minus that binge, so I'm feeling pretty good about that! Hopefully my weigh-in will reflect my good behavior :). But I'll be out of town on Saturday and may not have internet available for my weigh-in...mine might not be posted until Monday evening.
Also I love the idea of doing weekly challenge! I will work on drinking at least 75 ounces of water.
bewitched - you may even found you're down a bit more than usual because of the one binge -- sometimes that happens with me -- weird eh?
I'm fightin the emotional eating monster right now. VERY stressful day.
I just wanna tie a big ol' sack of chips around my face like a feed bag

Hi everyone. I just joined the site today and was so excited when I came across this challenge. I'm starting at 171.4 lbs today, so I'm hoping maybe 170 by Sat (that might be wishful thinking, but I'll try). My goal will be 150 by June 15th. I'm so excited, and since I'll be trying to lose 1.4 lbs before Sat, I won't be tempted to pig out before starting the challenge (as I have had the tendency to do in the past...)
Walnuthill - I have FitFlops, too. I absolutely love them! They are so comfortable, and you can definitely feel them working. I also love my MBTs. They are a bit more expensive, but give such a great work out!
I love Week 1's challenge. I always try to drink enough water, but that will push me to make sure that I do ![]()
One thought on emotional eating: Lately if I have a craving for a particular food, I make myself walk just over a mile to the store to get it. Then, most of the time by the time I've walked there, I don't even crave it that much anymore and end up getting something healthier. If I still crave it, I allow myself to eat it (just a small portion), once I've walked the mile home...![]()
sorry double post.
