Thought we could challenge ourselves for the month of September.
September 1st is on a Monday. It's also Labor day. Sept. has 30 days. With the days left in August you can easily find time to come up with 'your' game plan and share with the rest of the Gang. That way we can help each other with good ideas.
Consider your diet, exercise and water drinking.

I have low blood sugar so I do better with a protien before bed. If I eat fruit or juice before bed, I have passed out in the mornings.
You may not have that problem.
Hello folks!
Well, I made it back to the gym today after two weeks. Did my weight training and 25 minutes of cardio Yay!. I going to be very stiff this evening, but it was worth it. Food wise about 942 calories so far still have a fair amount leftover for dinner. Sorry to hear about your Mom 4square. You both are in my prayers. Glad to be part of this group. May you all have a nice day!

As a diabetic, I spend a lot of time monitoring my blood sugars, which is all the more important now that I am dieting and cutting calories/carbs. I was having a problem with waking up at night hungry and with blood sugar lows, so now I eat 150 calories before bed ... 2 slices of organic, sprouted flax seed bread (100 calories) and 2 slices of lean roasted turkey (50 calories). Sometimes I add a few radishes, cherry tomatoes, or a dill pickle spear for crunch.
Ever since I've started "saving" 150 calorie for my bedtime turkey sandwich, I haven't had blood sugar lows or the "hungries" in the middle of the night, nor am I ravenous in the mornings. And I've found that a blend of carbs/proteins seems to be what our bodies like best to work with as a fuel source. My suggestion is to figure out what works best for you, and consider planning for a late-night or before-bed snack ... especially if you're waking up hungry. But, if you do eat carbs ... eat low-glycemic (slow-burning) carbs like bread or cereal, and not high-glycemic (fast-burning, spike high/plummet low) carbs like fruit juices with your protein.

OK, I hope you GGG'ers are happy ... but my wonderful DH now thinks I've totally "lost it." After reading Kim's article about the cancer-fighting properties of apple seeds, I resolved to save and eat the seeds from my next apple. So ... I got out my nifty apple slicer thingy and made neat, perfectly-matched slices. I was busy in the kitchen, and didn't pay attention to what my DH was doing.
When I turned around, my apple core was gone!
I shrieked, looked around, and instantly rushed to our trash can and started rummaging around in it for my apple core that my dh had just (rather helpfully, he thought) tossed there. "What in the world are you doing?" he asked in amazement as I trimphantly fished out my apple core. "I'm going to EAT THIS!" I proclaimed. "This is MY apple core!" He looked at me for a minute and then said, "Dear, if you're THAT hungry, maybe you should just up your calories or something?" I burst into laughter, explaining about the article and the seeds.... so he wouldn't think I was so hungry I'd resorted to rummaging food from the trash.
Sheesh. The things we do to be healthy.

Don't apple seeds have cyanide in them?? That's what I've always heard....
Yep, a tiny amount. But the seeds in one apple won't kill you, according to the nice people at the Urban Legends site ... LINK TO ARTICLE ON APPLE SEEDS

To all who have been praying for my mom, she was a little bit better today. She is still very droggy and has to wait for what she intends to say come out of her mouth. In the light of yesterday, she was absolutely wonderful today. They got her up from her bed for the first time since her back surgery on Tuesday morning, it looks like she might have to stay in a skilled nursing facility for at least a couple of weeks. This is fine with me because she will be closer to home and it will be much easier to see her.
So I just really needed to say a major THANK YOU! I believe in prayer, thank you for your support.
hope you're getting cozy w/ the empty boxes, DWF! I'll be moving this year when SO and I find our new house and sell our current ones. Yikes it's rough out there w/ real estate.
Report for 11/29 Total calories -- 1500, 20 percent fat, 22 percent protein, 58 percent carbs, 32 grams of fiber (veggies/fruits grapefruit, broccoli, tomato, beets(my fave), carrots, granny smith apple, onion, garlic, cucumber, fresh dill, fresh thyme, dried cherries) Exercise -- 90 min power yoga, 30 min jogging plus hauled up the decorations and tree from the basement, woo hoo
Is tomorrow weigh in reporting day? Or the following friday after the "official" kickoff? I'm pleased as Friday is my regular weigh in day. This weekend will do a "tempo" training bike ride on Saturday (50 miles), and a cyclocross race in Kentucky on Sunday. High heart rates but only a 30 minute race, plus an hour warm-up before. Must remember to up calories to 1800 tomorrow and 2000 on Saturday, and at least 500 calories at breakfast Sunday morning. (probably steel cut oats with skim milk, and cinnamon apples made with a bit of butter and splenda brown sugar, plus 1 cup of fruit juice. Will add a bit of better-n-peanut butter if need a few more calories) I can never eat just before a race, too nervous, so just down 20 oz. of water-down energy drink. The oatmeal is the best to get me through, kind of a miracle food.
People have been juicing for years and grinding the seeds and all from the fruits.
I hope I don't lead anyone astray.

I ate 1,274 calories, maybe a little more. 57.2% carbs, 21.5% protein, 21.4% fat and 35 g fiber. So that should be anywhere around a 800 calorie defecit! I might have a little snack before I go to bed too! Up it to 1300-1400. We'll see!
I'll go ahead and weigh in tomorrow since that's my normal day!
See you all tomorrow!
Hi everyone, checking in for the night, calories 1,200. No exercise.
I have had this problem while my mom is in the hospital, I haven't been eating enough during the day. At night I end up eating atleast 200 calories right before bed. I just ate Baked Tostitos because I wasn't hungry but wanted to make sure I ate enough to keep my metabolism going, but wasn't hungry enough to eat lower calorie vegetables which I would have had to eat more of. I still had an A- despite the Tostitos.
Does anyone know what to do in that situation? What would have high healthy calories???
I buy frozen mixed berries, they are low calorie but packed with nutrients. No worry about them going bad if they are in the freezer. Nuke a bag of frozen veggies, I like the ones with water chestnuts and sugar snap peas, yum! Poke a whole in the bag and nuke for 6-7 minutes, if you aren't concerned with nukeing in plastic. Get a box of high fiber snacks like Triscuits (cracked pepper and olive oil flavor are my fav), or TLC snack bars. I got the pumpkin ones with flax seeds, they are pretty good. Or eat nuts, walnuts, almonds, seeds. That will keep you going for a long time!
Praying for you and your mom.

Get some healthy snack or nutrition bars and keep them in your purse.... and try to eat one at least every 4 hours. (Or a protein shake, or something similar!)
