Seriously people, whats with all this 'guys dig curves' garbage? Yea right! If guys dig curves, than why is the stick-thin image promoted? And why do guys only date mainly skinny girls whose legs don't even touch when they walk?
Anyone else in high school notice this? Do you think it's just our age?
<120 for a girl who's 5'9
seriously?? wow, dcyounts, you and your friends must be sorely lacking options when it comes to dating. i don't know a single girl who fits that standard, and if i did, i'd be seriously worried for her health!
of course, i see that you are 22...so i suppose that's why you say what you and your friends are into instead of what YOU are into. sounds like a serious case of "liking" what playboy and maxim say you should like instead of real, normal, healthy women.
i just hope you wouldn't turn down a girl you found attractive just because your friends would think she was fat at 130lbs and 5'8.
Well my last girlfriend was 5'1" 98 and was Vietnamese. A previous girlfriend was 5'11" ~125-130 w/no boobs. I like skinny girls, but in agreement with the rest of you, anorexia isn't very attractive. But Angelina Jolie or Victoria Beckham at their normal weight is very attractive.
In closing, I'd rather date a girl who was too thin than too large.
edit: The moral of my story is NOT to be super skinny and eat 300 calories a day and bleach your hair platinum blonde because that it is what Playboy and magazines are promoting. I'm just stating my preferences, but I'd certainly advise you all to try and not worry quite as much about whether guys like your curvy figure or not and, instead, focus on living a healthy lifestyle and enjoying your life and the right guy will come along. The most attractive thing on a girl is her smile. It makes us think "shes got something going on that I want to be a part of."
thanks for that. hopefully that's what the very impressionable young girls on here will take away from your post. that, and the fact that you are a rare type of guy liking such skinny women (at least in my experience).
i, for one, am quite confident in the fact that guys like my curves.
swimchick, it is definitely a highschool/young guy mentality. when you get older, you realize that MEN like WOMEN, not little girls. the ones who don't are probably still stuck in that high school mentality, not worth your time anyway. i thought i was fat in high school, and so i had no confidence and was totally uncomfortable in my own skin. i realize now it was my attitude that kept the boys away, not my "fatness".
I agree with Jules. I think having a poor attitude (arrogance to lack of self-confidence) can make even the best looking woman unattractive.
I personally like curvy/athletic women. I also agree that men, like myself, like real women. I don't want someone who looks like she can pass for 15, or has to be carded to buy cigarettes. I want someone who I can take to dinner, and not worry I am the only one eating while she eyeballs my food. Also, it shows men that you are comfortable in the way you feel. I always see women who look like they are too skinny and instantly wonder if they have low self-esteem. It is a stereotype, but I always wonder.
I dunno, just some random thoughts there.
Thanks guys. Your all pretty much right; I was having a 'moment' when I posted that.
So thanks for slapping me back in line. Stick thin isn't attractive to *most* guys.
not in high school, actually just finished my master's degree but wanted to give a different perspective :)
as far as stick thin "promotion" from the fashion side of things (i'm a weirdo who has a fashion design degree and is now a therapist) really thin works well for the runway. #1 women can envision their curves in the dress, which makes them want to buy it more. #2 you don't have to alter any kind of patterns or custom tailor anything if your model is lacking in the butt/boobs area, and trust me, custom alteration sucks and is time consuming. #3 alot of the couture stuff we see is considered more "art" than wearable clothing, and designers want a model who doesn't outshine the garmets. #4 commercial and chain store clothing is more likely to feature curvy models with an appropriate waist to hip ratio because they are trying to appeal to the ready to wear person, not the pretentious, artsy community (which isn't an insult i love that community and am trying to get back into it!). i'm not saying those are great reasons, or ethical, but it is what it is.
as haute couture becomes more and more mainstream thanks to the internet, satelite tv, and euro magazine avalibility its hard to say whether it will become more accesable to the ready to wear crowd, or whether the gaunt heroin chic look will prevail in "normal" communities. right now there is a clear struggle, but it probably will just depend on what makes the most money.
I don't live to please men, and if they thought any less of me because I was flabby or my ribs jutted out of my torso, those would be the men that wouldn't be worth associating with. Our bodies belong to us, not them, and it's outrageous that the guys dig curves stuff is usually from people who want women to embrace their figures. It's difficult to embrace your figure if you have to consider the standards of anyone but yourself.
I sort of disagree with the "only date" statement. The guys I know just want a pretty girl, although they don't tend to date very chubby ones.
I'm 17, in high school and I've always had a "woman's body" so for the boys in high school yeah it's a turn off. But honestly I don't care. I want nothing to do with them. I'll wait for something good.
Some guys don't dig curves. Some do.
You all may find it hard to believe, but I know just as many guys with eating disorders as women. PLUS, I'd venture to say about half of the men in my university's gym have or currently are taking steroids. I know guys who are bulimic, anorexic, take illegal diet pills that raise their core body temperature as well as other things because they're afraid to take off their shirt at the pool if they have any extra fat. A lot of girls think we're such pigs because all we want is to take girls home but I know a guy who wouldn't sleep with his girlfriend until he toned up his stomach enough to feel comfortable. What I'm saying is everyone is self-conscious to some degree and if a guy/girl only concentrates on whether you have curves or are very thin, then he/she is probably not comfortable with themselves too.
Guys do dig curves.
It's a scientifically proven fact.
In psychology, I learned that men are, by instinct, attracted to women who are "curvy" enough to carry their baby.
But that doesn't mean guys like the crazy hippo-status chick. They just like someone who is healthy looking, I guess.

Guys DO like curves. Apart from some, who like ALL girls, and skinny models go in that category!
It's mostly stupid/easily influenced guys who only go for stick-thin girls...it's what they get told they should like.
You'll mostly find as you get older that guys like a girl with a bit of an arse and (obviously) some boobies! And my bf likes me being cuddly, but I don't think many boys are as soft and snuggly as he is.
..YEah they get told they should like. My fiance was "Mr popular" when he was in high school, and always dated the super skinny girls who looked like they were 12, because they were the girls he was "Supposed to date"...he said he didn't even like any of his girlfriends in high school, and there were girls he would have liked to have dated, but couldnt because of "what everyone would think"...
I'm glad he has gotten over his superficial phase...I definetly have a butt and boobs and a small waste, and Craig loves my curves! That being said, I've always noticed when I was younger, guys in high school didnt really go for me, I always dated older/college guys when I was in high school...I hit puberty kind of early, and by the time I was 12, I had more of a "woman's body" then of my own age...I think once guys get a little older and out of that high school/peer pressure type environment, they realize they can date the kind of girls they really want to, and not the ones they feel they "have to"

because the media isn't trying to impress the guys, it's trying to sell to the girls.
they've successfully created the illusion that guys like it (which some do, but most claim they don't), and the girls believe it.
That's it right there. They sell the image of stick thin girls being "hot" which fuels the crazy ideals for women to be that thin, which, in turn fuels the diet industries multi-billion dollar corporation every year.
Here is your answer. PORN. Porn stars are curvy - not morbidly obese, diffinatley not emaciated. They have huge boobs, little waists, and generally a full butt. And yes - some have a little skin around there middle that they can pinch because they are humans.
How many men do you see reaching for a vogue magazine so they can oogle all of the so called "perfect anorexic body-types". It's all the girls who do, and we've impressioned in our minds that that is the only way to be beautiful.
I've asked many men which they would prefer, and many say they would rather have an overweight girlfriend (again - not morbidly obese), than an underweight one.
Well, idk how to answer this question, but while i am reading these responses i am cracking up! You guys make me laugh! =)
I'll be honest that I wouldn't want to date someone who was really overweight or obese.. but that doesn't mean I'd laugh at them for it or anything. Sure, personality is great, but I think it's fair to have some standards for a partner.. if the attraction isn't there it just isn't. I'd certainly be friends with someone even if they were obese though.
Guys are attracted to hour glass figure in the mid-western countries. Its proven. As long as you have an hour glass, be big or small guys will still be attracted.
I dont know the saying in Spanish, but my ex from Mexico said there was one for females without curves which translates to that they walk on their hands. It means their legs look like arms and its not complimentary. I dont mean to enforce it because there is an audience for all body shapes but my observations with female bodies that are in a healthy weight range is that the curves seem to turn more heads.
The magazines that GIRLS buy, have all the thin women in them.
The magazines that GUYS buy, have all the curvy women with the Jay-Low Asses, Bulging cleavage and tight smooth stomach. As someone said, its easyer to have clothes ready to be modeled by thin women, than the curvy sexy Pornstars. Females buy the thin woman media, not guys.
mimi_js: lol hippo status. I had to laugh at that one! [I've just never heard it put that way before.. haha]
ibez: What you're saying makes sense. My boyfriend thought I was beautiful when he first met me, when I was at a MUCH higher weight, and at almost every stage of my weight loss, even when I was a bit underweight. The only time I think he ever really lost attraction to me was when I was really underweight, which again seems to validate that most guys just aren't attracted to anorexic-thin girls.
As a matter of fact, I'm getting a LOT more compliments now, at what might be my healthiest weight ever, than I did when I was at my highest weight and lowest weight. I mean, I went from being underweight and not have any guys look at me AT ALL to being a healthy weight and constantly getting compliments, from both guys and girls. [Maybe because I actually have boobs now? I dunno. haha]
