I have had a few health problems but I am in great shape and healthy now and want to get this weight.
Could use any and all help. Would anyone care to join me in my new adventure?
Well two weeks of company has caught up with me. I'm up 2 pounds
. Both daughters, their husbands and of course my grandson are all up for the fourth. We grilled and I ate it all. But I'm back at it today. Before, I would use this as an excuse to continue to overeat for several days instead of reigning in right away. So I'm putting it out there that I will eat sensible today and the next day etc.
Okay enough of the food rant. We have had perfect weather. We spent the day yesterday at the lake, boating, floating and visiting. We came back to town for the fireworks. We have the best view from the roof of our kitchen. We climb out of my bedroom window onto the flat kitchen roof. Our house is up on a hill so we are up pretty high. The fireworks explode at eye level. It's really cool. Today the boys are golfing in the morning and the girls are going to the annual antique fair at the county fairgrounds. We'll all be back at the lake for the afternoon and we'll blow up our own fireworks this evening. Everyone packs up and goes home tomorrow. Hubby and I have the cottage for the next two weeks so when the kids clear out, I'll move us in. I don't have internet out there but I'll be in town often to feed cats, check mail etc. So I'll log in then. Our cottage is only 20 minutes away on a small inland lake.
Donna I hope you get well soon. Take care!
Penny
Dess I hope your trip went well. So it’s a very small place you live in? guess I don’t know what a IKEA store is. Is it grocery, clothing or somewhat like a Wal-Mart super center have most anything? We are going the 12 and 13 to Wichita to do our big shopping at Sam store. They have most any and everything you need but still sometimes I need items I can only find on the internet. Thank goodness for the computer.
Penny your cottage sounds like paradise. I have lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks and several sense I have had the strep throat, but I’m getting better today I ate a piece of toast. First solid food I could get down. I hope I have not gone into starvation mode and it’s turning to fat. Down 2 inches in the waist that is what I always work for the inches to go away. You have a great time at the cottage and post when you are able.
Donna
Hello All!
Not much going on here. I've been on a food frenzy for the past week. Can you tell by my absence? I got on the scale one day last week and I was up 3 lbs. Hubby said it was due to all the water and cranberry juice I was drinking for my UTI. I said it was from all the food I was eating, sort of grazing all day.
Now my trainer is on vacation and I lack so much motivation. ![]()

But I will not sink!!! I may do the deadman's float for awhile but I will eventually start to swim!! Actually today was a great day for my food, so things aren't a total lost. I will weigh myself tomorrow to see how much damage I've done.
Donna, I think you caught my nasty cold. Take care of yourself and I'll be happy to peel your grapes and feed you bonbons!
Jenika, We'll call you the 'shrinking woman'!! Good for you!! See the miracle of exercise!! It might be worth a trip to see you so I can have a 'working vacation'! Why pay a spa to trim down, I can flip burgers all day!!
Penny, Don't worry about the weight gain. You're enjoying your family and that's what's important. The weight loss will happen.
Marta, Thanks for the compliment! No one is perfect here and no one will ever pass judgement on anyone. That's what makes this forum so special. We all know what to do but we're all human! It's a situation that I never found with all the 'diets' I've been on. That's why I may disappear but I'll always come back.
Alice, Good luck in your new job. I'm sure you're making the right move.
Dess, Don't you just love IKEA?? I love it when I have a client on a limited budget, that's where I bring them and we're always successful in finding what we need.
Karen, Where are you? Please come back!
I haven't been writing in my CC journal but I have been writing in my notebook. I've been slipping it in my pocketbook and pulling it out whenever I have a thought. I sometimes find it easier then sitting at the computer.
Hope everyone had a healthy and safe 4th!
Be Well,
Marie
Hi all!
I'm back in town to feed cats, water plants and do mounds of laundry (we don't have a washer and dryer at the lake.) I did not gain anymore than the original 2 pounds. I feel pretty good about that. Took a long walk this morning before coming into town. Logging in food again. I'm feeling pretty good even with the gain.
We had a terrific visit with the kids except that yesterday we had a bout of boat hell. I went out with my oldest daughter, her hubby and grandson to do some tubing on our new-to us jet boat. We sucked the tow rope up into one of the intake vents. We spent about an hour trying to pull it out. We were not successful. We drove back to the cottage on our good engine. When we got there, my hubby told us that my other son in law had had an accident with the shore station and sliced his hand. My youngest daughter rushed him to urgent care where he got 5 internal stitches and 7 external ones. While we waited to hear from them, hubby and first SIL worked the tow rope out of the intake vent. During all this my hubby accidentally broke the ski mirror off the boat while getting on . All this happened within an hour's time. The good news is second SIL did not slice a tendon so he'll have full use of his hand. We didn't ruin the engine and they got all the rope out. We ended the visit with an early dinner at a restaurant on the other side of the lake. We drove - no boats!! After the kids left, hubby and I went back to the cottage, sat on the deck and had a glass of wine. Whew!
Donna I'm glad you're feeling better. You're losing weight the hard way. BTW IKEA is a great big store with everything you can use in a house. It's a Swedish company so it has clean Scandinavian designs from cup hooks to furniture. I love to go there. There's one near both my girls, so I get to go often. Look them up on line.
Marie I'm glad to see you are back. I like the swimming analogy - I was a floater too this past weekend.
Take care all!
Penny
Marie well sometimes we just gain and have no reason then other times we gain and have several reasons. Maybe this time both of you are right, but either way it will come off again. But kick them feet, stroke the arms and swim, swim ,swim.
I finally am over the strep- my seems like it was a month before I could eat solid again, but at least I don’t think it was long enough to go into the starvation mode.
So where has everyone disappeared to again. Sometimes it so busy and other times it’s a few of us posting but like you said we come back and that is the important thing.
Penny I’m glad you had a great time but now it’s catch up time. I’m doing the same thing here. And the garden is growing prize winning weeds. So guess I’d better cut this off for now and get out there. I may peek in tonight and see if anyone is around.

Penny describes it very well, the only problem I have with the store in that I would like to clear out my home and go there with a very fat cheque book and just refurbish the whole place, guess my partner would have something to say cos he'a a kind of old fashioned guy and grumbles about change. so I have to make do with adding some nik-naks and soft furnishings, but I still managed to spend the full day going round the store.
And yes Ireland is a very small country in context to the USA. An 8/9 hour drive would take you from the northern most point to the southern most point. But it is a very beautiful country and there really are "40 shades of Green" if you know the song Johnny Cash wrote on a visit here. I guess the Green can be attributed to the amount of rain we get and the less than desirable average summer temperatures of mid 60's to low 70's. 75 degrees constitutes a HOT day here and 80 degrees gets a PHEW WHAT A SCORCHER headline. But I guess we wouldn't have the green if we had hotter weather!
"...75 degrees constitutes a HOT day here and 80 degrees gets a PHEW WHAT A SCORCHER headline." Oh Dess, so funny!! I was thinking of you when I saw this week's weather for Boston, hot, hot, hot!
IKEA is totally cool. Good stuff cheap. There has been some fighting about where to put one in the Boston area. I think they finally got some land and it shouldn't be too long before it opens. It will be about 20 minutes from house. Right now I have to drive about an hour to get to one.
Well, I think I'm OK. I think the rough waters are behind me again. But really, why are those bad habits so quick to surface? It's pretty scarey; not to fall into them for a year and then bam! Definite eye opener for me. I need to stay humble.
Be healthy!
Marie
Hi all,
Just stopping in to say we LOVE our new RV!! Had a wonderful 4 day camping weekend on Lake Ontario over the 4th. Lots of walking, BBQing and even went dancing!!
I still struggle...but always will, I s'pose. Time to time I check in here at CC+ just to keep up with what's happening with my friends and sometimes finding a bit of inspiration to help me get thru a day at a time.
Sue
Well, this week I'm the one with a bad cold
So my exercise has gone bye the bye for now. I'm not eating very much, though, so I may get through this with a net loss.
Dess, Ireland sounds just perfect to me. I love it under 70 for walking and hiking. Any warmer and I get too hot.
Marie, if you figure out how to kick the bad habits for good, please let me know. I think we can't do it because the same stresses in our life that caused our problem in the first place are still here with us.
Keep working at it, everyone. I am!
Alice
Thank you, Ladies. Your support is what gets me through!
Dess, thanks for your comments in my journal. You're the best! And I, too, will take Ireland's weather over Boston's anytime!!
Alice, plese feel better. It's funny how we're all catching it. Hmmm, via computer???
Sue, So glad you like the RV. Enjoy it! And yes, I suppose we all will have to struggle with food for life. *sigh*
I spent a great day at Mom's pool with her and my niece. It felt good to swim again. I haven't been swimming in about 5 years. It's the whole bathing suit issue that kept me away. But now that I can wear a bathing suit, I'll be there more often.
I see the hand specialist tomorrow. I hope it's a cortisone shot for some pain relief.
Be well!
Marie
Hi all,
OK! OK! I give in Ireland is just the most perfest place on earth (actually it nearly is) a beautiful land, beautiful people
, beautiful beer and whiskey and even more beautiful FOOD!. That's the root of my problem, I've developed a taste for all the beautiful food and it's a pity to not be able to indulge
.
I'm getting back on track - the body insists I should, the mind knows I should but the mouth sometimes don't listen. Just need to see some shift in the scales to give me that little boost. I'm so impatient
.
A quick question for anyone who knows! Now that I have a regular exercise routine in that I do gym 3 times a week, walk as often as I can and generally move a lot more than I did when I first registered here. Should I now recalculate my burn and intake as doing Light Activity instead of Sedentary as I was at the start? All help and advice appreciated.
Marie: Hope everything goes well with the specialist.
Dess
Hi Dess,
So happy you're keeping up with the exercise! I find that to be the hardest part of this healthy lifestyle!
RE: burn meter question.....I leave mine at sedentary b/c it gives me the least amount of calories. But I also check Light Activity to know the absolute largest amount of calories I can eat. So, I eat within my range Sedentary to Light Activity. I like to have that safety margin for the over indulgence days! What does everyone else think?
The hand specialist is sending me for EMG. We'll see......
Hi again,
EMG? Sorry I don't know what this means Marie, ( you Yanks with your initials
) I assume its further diagnosis or is it treatment of some nature. Whatever it is I hope all goes well for you.
Thanks for advice on the meter thing - might just do the same, because my burn starts at 1900 and when I add the exercise it is essential that I eat more than the suggested 1200 cals just to keep the difference between 500 -1000 cals. If I'm calculating correctly that is.
Catch you all soon. Dess
Dess- I typed in IKEA and could not find any of the stores near here. Sounds like maybe our Kitchen and things. They have everything. Not here in Iola but in the larger city within a couple of hours drive. I would love to visit Ireland sometime. Ireland and Australia sounds so fascinating to me.
Marie- I think I have been doing much better on my keeping focused. I have been writing down my eating and exercise once again. I start I stop and I always do better when I write it down. We have not repaired our pool from the flood last year. To many things going on. My son in law opened a new business, my daughter has enrolled in college (after 30 years of not attending) my granddaughter just bought a home and is remodeling. Where is the play time? lol
Sue – wish you was able to pop in more often but I myself have been having troubles getting on the puter. Summer is so busy with outdoor activities. I love it, never a dull moment. Fishing, camping, family cookouts. Great time of the year.
Marie that is a good question- recalculate. I never thought about it. I got the walk the pounds off DVD- talk about a work out. So now it is Mon-Wed-Fri- my exercise class. Also I do toning with bands and biking.
Tue- Thur- is doing the Red and DVD walk pounds. Sat- and Sun- is no exercise well anyway- planned exercise. With all that I still have trouble losing.
Now – for the answer--- I don’t have a clue. So now what?
Need to get to the garden. See you later.
Well guess everyone busy tonight. See you tomorrow.
Hey everyone, just a quick not to say that my scales do know how to register smaller numbers cos they did it this morning
. So guess who's a happy bunny today
.
I really do need to learn to be patient

etc. etc. etc.
We have a holiday weekend here so no work on Monday, haven't got any definate plans but I'm pretty flexible so could end up anywhere. Probably be restricted by the weather and the rising price of fuel (our fuel costs us the equivelant of $10.00 a gallon and you think you got it hard!!!) but I intend to enjoy the day off anyway.
Donna: If ever you get the chance to visit us here in the Emerald Isle you would be very welcome. So get saving and make the trip. Only one life! You as well Marie.
I was fifty years old before I started to travel and since then I have visited Spain and Turkey and in the USA - Maryland, Tennesse and California and of course California will be a regular haunt for me from now on cos of my beautiful grandkids. There won't be any money left for any one when I go and I will have to keep on working to be able to finance these trips but what the heck.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Dess
so you thingk you need to be patient- I guess lol Finally and I do mean finally I have started to move the scales a bit. I had went from 202 to 150- 168-178 and now today it was 167. Finally. But I got the dvd Walk the pounds away. And it's a great work out -that and the Red I guess finally broke the yoyo.
Guess we are going to be leaving early in the morning to go to Wichita. A friend of mine that I met 3 yrs ago on the internet is going to be there, so hubby and I are going to go met up with her. We have visited daily now for 3 years. She has Yahoo instant messenger and so do I. We both have mikes so we talk daily for free. I like free.
You all have a great week-end. See ya monday.
Donna
Just a quick note to say Hi! I'm in from the lake to wash some clothes, pat the cats and check up on the mail. I 'm on the losing side again. I'm down to 202. All the company is gone as of today. At least for the next couple of weeks. I Need to break the 200 barrier. Perhaps this week.
Have a great week!
Penny
Good Morning! Happy Monday!
Wow, I just realized I haven't signed on to the computer since Thursday! Just trying to give my hand a rest. (Yes, Dess, EMG is further testing, electromyogram, it tests the muscles and nerves. To be honest I didn't know what the initials meant, I just looked it up!!!!!
)
Excerise has been great, food good. I haven't been on the scale. I usually do that when my clothes start to feel too big!
Good work, Dess, happy the scale is moving!
Donna, hope you had a fun trip to Wichita.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Way to go Penny – I see you dancing in ONEDERLAND very soon. I also have started the scales moving in the right direction very soon. Well anyway till the last few days. I haven’t weighed for a few days and hope I haven’t done too much damage. Was gone out of town and eating out sense Saturday. Tomorrow guess I get on and hope for the best.
Marie I also need to let my hand rest but thought being off for several days it would be healed but had a lot of computer work to do today and I’m back in my brace.
I think my hubby needs an EMG test we had to go out of town today to get a MRI his legs is hurting him so bad. He tries to stand and he has to hold on to something and his legs shake from the pain. I wonder if it isn’t his Cholesterol meds. I know several people that have had to go off of it because of muscle pain. It affects the arm, and or legs the worse but can have it affect anywhere there is muscles.
Dess how is your patients today?
How everyone else is doing fine and having a great vacations, summer outings , family fun or what ever they are busy at.
A friend that was on Nutri System got tired of it and sent me a large box of the food. There is enough there for about 2 weeks. Not bad tasting but my the serving size is tiny. Many things I haven’t eaten in a long time but going to give it a try. That is unless I start gaining.
