I thought I'd start a 2012 thread for people trying to conceive.
Please share anything you'd like here. You never know what might help someone.
Sticky baby dust to you all!
Thank you for starting this thread! It is so helpful to read others' stories, especially when we feel particularly down or exhausted from all of the trying. Who knew having sex 6 times in a week would make me complain!?!
I am 35 and my husband is 42 and we are trying for our first. This was our 7th month of trying and I am currently in the middle of the 2 week wait ;-) The first several months, I tested 3 or 4 days before my period was due, but I have mellowed out a little bit and am able to wait it out now ;-) It has definitely gotten easier for us, perhaps partly because we are a little older and it isn't terribly surprising that it isn't easy.
One of the things that has helped me out a lot is that I have worked at gaining the perspective to see that if this doesn't happen for us, we have many other wonderful possibilities in our lives. Maybe if we don't become parents in the next few years we can do some more traveling - I have always wanted to go to SE Asia, and that probably won't be happening for many years if I have a baby. Maybe we will adopt or be foster parents, something that I would be incredible proud and honored to do. Maybe we will be able to use the extra money we are able to save to buy a home that we really love and can grow old together in. There really are so many possibilities, and pregnancy is just one of them!
I wish great luck and positive feelings to everyone!!
katyayer - Thank you for your response! Congratulations on getting pregnant! It's awesome it happened your first month! Have you had an ultrasound already? I don't know how the process works for when you do those, but I'm sure that is/will be very exciting. Please share with us how things go for you!
I am not sure what to think about my body right now. My boobs do not hurt at all, which makes me think that I'm not pregnant. However, I have been lightheaded for over a week and getting headaches. I also have been experiencing cramping on one side for about the same amount of time and a pulling sensation and other pains. I won't go into more detail, but for a little while today I was worried about an ectopic pregnancy. I did some research online and it really could be anything. Oh well! Hopefully I will know one way or another in a week!
fincharella - You have such a great perspective on everything! I'm glad to hear other people have adjusted to the two-week-wait, it gives me hope I can mellow out soon too! I fully agree there are lots of other options and exciting things to do if pregnancy is not on the horizon.
baby4me - I am not going through IVF, but I know a couple who did who have boy/girl twins. Good luck to you!
Good luck to everyone! Have a good week! :)
5togo, Yes I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks. It was pretty exciting- we got to see and hear the heartbeat. Everybody is different so just because your boobs aren't sore doesn't mean you're not pregnant. By the way, not to stir the two week wait anxiety any more, but I too had light cramping on just one side during the first few weeks. I too was concerned about ectopic pregnancy but turns out everything is in the right place.
Fincharella I too love your perspective! That's how I was too- I love travel and horses and figured if we couldn't get pregnant I would launch into some other exciting endeavor. I am 34, so no spring chicken either. I was kind of surprised that it happened so soon, and I know this will sound weird but I was almost a little bummed that I don't get to adopt a wild mustang and train it- which was one of the things I promised myself I'd do instead. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to start a family, but the other goals and dreams were pretty cool too!
Just this morning I got my BFP after 7 frustrating months of trying. Every other month I was watching for symptoms and trying to convince myself that every little thing meant I was pregnant. This month I have had no noticeable symptoms yet the HPT is positive!
I know it's early days so I'm trying not to get too excited but I was convinced it would never happen. I had been looking at people with kids and thinking 'why can't I have that?'. Fingers crossed for this to stick and for everyone else who is trying.
I am so happy for you and your family ;) Oh you will be just fine and I'm sure you'll be a great mother too..you are indeed lucky to fall preggers so natural and easy! Enjoy your blessing and stay happy and healthy. You making me excited now to keep trying for my baby ;) il be ovulating in next days!! So fingers crossed we get it right ;)
All the best Luv
Thanks busieluv and good luck to you! :)
No news for me quite yet. Technically my period was supposed to start friday, but I can be a bit irregular (usually between 28-34 day cycle). I am hoping to know by next week. Cramping on the left side comes and goes but im inclined to think its wishful thinking because I took a test yesterday and it was negative. I've calmed down a lot since last week though. :)
Hi Everyone, I'm a newly returning CC member. I was a faithful Calorie Counter after my 2 yo was born, and got back to my pre-pregnancy weight in about a year with exercise. Unfortunately, my husband and I have spent the past year trying for baby number two, only to have 3 miscarriages -and I've gained 10 pounds.
I have a lot of good excuses (we've moved, the m/c, etc), but the bottom line is that I've lost my motivation and energy. The baby losses have been devastating, but I know that if I continue in this direction, my health will suffer and make it that much more difficult to carry a baby to term.
I've been reading posts from other folks and it sounds like there is a lot of great support out there. I'm planning to start running again (training for a race this spring/summer) and putting off TTC for a few months to give my mind and body a break. Problem is I just can't seem to get started.... and have been spending a lot of time baking sweets instead.....arrgh.
Hi ladies, just checking in to see how everyone is doing.
DH and I are going to officially be trying here in the next couple of weeks. In fact, my 5k is in one week and I guess that will be the right timing. I'm excited and yet so scared at the same time. We haven't had any issue getting PG in the past; one month with our oldest and two months with our angel so I'm hopeful.
I just hope my nerves can take all the waiting, and I don't mean the 2WW. The waiting for a healthy baby as our nievity is completely gone when it comes to a "safe point" within pregnancy.
I wish all of you sticky baby dust!
Good luck hmbghettopic! Hope all is going well and your 5k was a success!
How is everyone else doing? I am so curious about everyone else who has stopped in on this thread.
I was not preggo the first go-around, so after my period being 3 weeks late we decided to do the ovulation sticks this month. After some confusion with them, I finally got a true positive today (day 15), meaning I'm ovulating today or tomorrow. I know a lot of people take the wait-and-see/relax-it'll-happen-when-it-happe ns approach, but I feel a lot better knowing what's going on. That way, if enough days pass and my period doesn't come, I can know whether or not to believe a negative pregnancy test.
Yes, things are going well. My race went better than I expect...ran my fastest time yet! DH and I have been BD and I'm hoping the timing was right. Just started the 2ww today and I can feel when I ovulate. And holy crap, I O'd from both sides yesterday. Yikes! Hopefully I get a little rainbow out of the deal. :-)
The wait-and-see method is okay, but I'm a slight control freak. Since I can feel when I O, it's not hard for me, but I also temp. I like to consider it my AF or PG (this month, FX!) heads-up.
If you feel more comfortable with the ovulation sticks, go for it! I'll be thinking of you since it seems like we're both on the same time frame.
Annoying, I just wrote a post on my phone but it lost it. Serves me right for being too lazy to get up and come to my laptop to write. Oh well..
Anyway, hmbghettopic, we are totally on the same cycle. Must be the hormones on this thread, jk! The way the sticks work is that they are more accurate in the afternoon, but I've been using them in the mornings. Well, yesterday I started having some mild cramping (on one side) in the afternoon, so I retested and got the positive. It's so weird because I'd never felt ovulation until last month (which I did not know at the time what I was feeling) but clearly now I'm feeling it. I must be hyperaware these days. I wonder why! ;)
Best of luck to you with the 2WW!!
5togo - how are things? I know we're on the same cycle and wondered if you had tested yet.
I got a faint BFP yesterday and this morning it was darker. I am so excited! And scared s***less. Sorry for the language, but there's really no other way to describe it.
How is everyone else doing?
We actually flew to ny for the weekend today and we've been running around all day. Im exhausted and worried I may be overexerting myself. But enough with the worry, yayayayay for faint second lines!!
Congrats, Jen and 5togo! I haven't checked out this thread for a while, came in today and saw your news, well done!
congrats you two!!!!! so so exciting!!!!
we aren't going to be TTC until June :) i'm anxious to get going again!! we're just waiting because DH is turning 30 at the end of May and i'd like to celebrate with him :) we're going camping so i'd like to avoid morning sickness too, lol!
