Due in Winter 2012

There is a feed for expecting parents for babies due this summer and this fall. I'd like to start one for expectant parents of bundles of joy that will be coming this Winter.

My wife and I just found out that we are going to be having our first baby on December 7. She is just 8 weeks along and the ultrasound recently showed us our first peek of the peanut.

I look forward to reading posts about how your diets are progressing throughout the pregnancy and how you deal with those nagging symptoms of pregnancy. My wife has been nauseated a lot and has had a really picky diet, and picky for all the wrong foods. She wants to eat right, but she hasn't been hungry for healthy choices. I hear this sometimes passes as she progresses. Any thoughts? Any expectant parents having other nagging pregnancy symptoms having an effect on their diets?

Hi smith!

I am 6 weeks along, so I haven't had my first doctor's appointment yet to get a firm due date, but the one the online calculators give me is 12/23.

Congratulations to you and your wife! How was the 8 week appointment? Mine is May 11th and I can't wait!! Right now it doesn't feel like there is really anything in there. I just feel like I'm suffering from a protracted illness and being taken over by aliens. :)

I am having a hard time eating healthy. About 2 weeks ago I got really, abruptly sick. It may have actually been a stomach virus because it was accompanied by a fever. When to the ER and they put me on an IV and did blood work. Luckily there was no infection. Anyway, while recovering from that my tummy was a little tender. Now I am eating a ton but only want junk food! I am getting a little better about throwing a salad and some fruit in here and there, but I am not depriving myself of chips or salty chinese food if that's what I want. I am in the worst part of morning sickness (so I'm told) so I am just glad that it's nausea only because I haven't vomited in over a week despite some close calls.

Best of luck to you! I am happy to check in on this thread. I hadn't seen one up for Winter yet, thanks for posting. :)

My wife is 10 weeks along and she feels nauseated about every other day. And she has only thrown up once which is pretty good I guess. I've been doing my best to accommodate her cravings while not indulging my own, which has been a challenge, but I guess that's what dieting is all about. But we've put some healthy food in the house which is half the battle.

Good luck to you and yours! I'm ready for December!

Hello, I'm just about 5 weeks.  We found out we are expecting last week.  I haven't been to the doctor yet, but according to the calculators online, I'm due mid January.  I haven't had a whole lot of symptoms yet, really just fatigue and some mild cramping that comes and goes which I'm told is because my uterus is preparing itself for the long haul.  I get a little nausea after I eat and if I let myself go too long between eating something, but it's a little early for full on morning sickness any way.  I have noticed bloating too.  I mean, the scale says the same weight, but my pants are tight!!!  I get home from work, and I can't wait to put on something with an elastic waist.  The hubs thinks it's hilarious because it looks like my stomach is already bumping out, but it's just gas and bloating.

I follow the paleo lifestyle, so my diet is what some would call unhealthy, but my physicals and bloodwork show it's right for my body.  My cholesterol is "remarkably low" according to my doctor, and my weight is well within the normal range.  I don't eat any grains (no wheat, corn, barley, oats, or beans) and I stick to a mostly meat, vegetable, fruit, and full fat dairy diet with some high quality dark chocolate thrown in for good measure;).  I haven't had bloating since I started the lifestyle a year ago, so that's why I'm pretty sure it's a preggo symptom.
