WOW! well, i've heard of morning sickness and my mom said she had gotten it horribly when she had me and my siblings but that's really extreme to lose 40 pounds...what's your doctor have to say? hang in there!

try a piece of root ginger... peel a small piece (10 cent coin size)and poor over hot water and drink as tea when ever you feel nausea. Worked for me.... although I didn't have hyperemisis like it sounds like you have. Make sure to keep hydrated.. even sips of water.

Acupuncture is also very good for nausea in pregnancy... worked for a few people I know... one couldn't even leave house similar to you and she would go every few days and had great improvement!

Also had a cousin who had similar situation to you and it ended up that she had gall stones...... ???

Maybe one of these could help you???

thank you i am willing to try anything and i mean anything right now to feel better and to eat i have no issues drinking so i know im atleast somewhat hydrated and i will get my doctor to check for more possibilities he hasnt done any testing on this matter so i really feel he should if not i get a new doc  lol again thank you those are two things i havent tried

I had hyperemesis too. I took Unisom & it helped.

There are a lot of suggestions on the web, e.g. http://www.babycenter.com/404_are-there-safe- medications-for-morning-sickness_1366869.bc

Though I'm surprised your doctor hasn't offered to help you find relief or addressed your anxiety re: your sickness.

As I understand it you only need to gain weight if you're of a normal weight to begin with.

That is a lot of weight. Were you very overweight to begin with? The doctor can prescribe you meds to help you stop throwing up and they are completely harmless to the baby. I would ask for them!

I've read that sometimes during pregnancy very overweight (obese/morbidly obese) women can lose weight as the body tries to make itself healthier in a way so that it's fitter for the strains of pregnancy. Though at your weight it doesn't sound like you're morbidly obese or anything, probably more due to the fact that you're throwing up and can't eat. Maybe try sticking to quite plain foods when you do try to eat to make it less likely that you'll throw it back up again.

When I was pregnant I gained every single day lol...too much though. My doctor told me that in the first trimester you would actually lose weight because  your body is gearing up for the baby. The second trimester youll gain..which you just entered...and the third is about the baby's body weight. Since this is a baby and life's most important gift get a second DOCTORS opinion...it never hurts to be safe than sorry right...

Even if you were overweight to begin with, it is NOT normal to lose 40 pounds when you are pregnant.  The baby is going to get what he/she needs whether you eat or not and you should either be staying the same or gaining very little.  Your dr. should not be saying it's normal and I would seriously think about changing.  Throwing up with that much nausea should have already put you in the hospital for IV fluids.  Good luck.

i have to agree with sheriberry.  it is not normal to lose so much weight from being sick, nor is it normal to not be able to function because you are so sick.  your dr can prescribe meds to keep you from being sick (zofran i think, its expensive but apparently very effective) and you need to be monitored to make sure that the baby is growing properly and that you are hydrated and getting the nutrients you need.

ur dr sounds like a putz.  losing 40 lbs in 12 weeks from vomiting alone is never normal.
