Hi! Im about 47lbs into my 100lb journey. its been a long road, and a tough one but i think im on the right path.. I know how to continue and plan on it, but also want to get pregnant.
should i lose the weight, and then try? do both at the same time, realizing i wont lose lbs since it will cancel out those im gaining, or forget tthe weight loss now and try after a kid?
what to do? what is the right thing, what is healthy, etc
The first thing I suggest you do (if you haven't done so already) is to make an appointment with your physician/OBGYN and let them know you would like to become pregnant in the near future.
The advice they offer should be educated and sound. They'll probably write you a prescription for prenatal vitamins and let you know risks associated with being overweight/obese and pregnant. It's really up to you and your doctors on whether you should start trying to conceive or not.
I think that talking to your doctor is the first thing that you should do and get advice from them.
Sometimes it can take a long time to actually get pregnant, so I don't see anything wrong with starting now on trying and continue losing the weight. I wouldn't stop with the weight lose till after you get pregnant and have the baby because you may have more weight to lose or lose your motivation because being a new mommy can be stressful and tiring.
I was overweight when I had my daughter and I lost weight throughout my pregnancy (under my doctors watch) and everything was fine as long as I didn't lose a whole lot of weight in a short period of time.
If/when you get pregnant and want to continue losing weight, make sure to discuss everything with your doctor. He/she will tell you the safest ways to do things.
Best of luck to you in your weight loss and future pregnancy!
On average it takes a year to get pregnant. Continue what you are doing while trying for that positive test :)
Once you get pregnant (I'm 7months pregnant right now), switch over to weight maintenance mode, set your - analysis to the "pregnancy diet", and stop increasing the intensity of your workouts. You will gain weight while you are pregnant that doesn't mean you have to gain fat, and undo all of your hard work!
Most women drop ~20lbs in the weeks after the baby is born, and breastfeeding burns ~500 cals a day. If you adjust your calorie input accordingly you will be healthier and happier than ever when your baby arrives :)
