Quote  |  Reply

hi

My name is Veronica. Im 24 years old. I've been married for 3 yrs. My husband and I want a baby. We have been trying for 2 yrs, but I haven't gotten pregnant. I went to a doctor, and she told me that i cannot get pregnant because I'm overweight. I really want to have a baby. Can someone help me. If someone knows what I can do to get pregnant? I will really appreciate it.

Have you been tested for your fertility? There might be an underlying problem there that the doctor doesn't know about unless by doing certain tests. Have your husband tested too.

If it is because of the reason the doctor suggested then what else can you do? You'll have to lose the weight. Maybe have your doctor set you up with a nutritionist who can help you along the way with a meal plan. :)

There are other ways to conceive, but they are not cheap such as invetro or having a surrogate mother.

Whatever you decide to do I wish you and your husband luck. :)

A second opinion is always a good idea.

Edit: I confused myself.

If you have been trying for two years you meet the infertility criteria for treatment.   Furthermore if the obesity is the issue and you have PCOS then that needs to be treated.  It sounds to me like you saw a family doc or an internist and you really need to see an Ob/Gyn (seriously).  There are so many subtleties and options that were never discussed with you.  There is actually a very easy way for you to get pregnant that is also cheap.  You do need to pay attention to your weight buy the way the physician handled it is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY inappropriate.  Not just a second opinion an OB/Gyn opinion.

In 2005 i was 355lbs, and we were trying for a baby. I too did not have my period for well over 3 months, and i was actually told (after numerous tests) that i was pre-menopausal. I was devastated. So instead of trying to get pregnant i focussed on losing weight. In May 2007 i started WW and CC, and by August i had lost 43lbs. And then i got pregnant. It was the best thing ever, not to mention a huge surprise!

Maybe you do need to lose weight. Maybe you do need to be checked for PCOS or hormone problems. But meanwhile you could continue your healthier life style and try to lose some weight.

I wish you all the best!!

I would get a second opnion. I'm sure loosing a bit of weight wouldn't hurt, just to have you the healthiest you can be in order to carry a healthy pregnancy and keep you happy as well.  Maybe that is what she was meaning??  I've been trying for almost 48 months (4years) and am not overweight....so to say that weight is the reason....I think not.  Hang in there!!

:)

To be nice- your doctor sounds like an ass. I've been obese most of my adult life and have two healthy children. It took 3mths to fall pg with my eldest, and 11mths with the 2nd. To say that your weight is the reason without investigating other possible causes is hurtful, dismissive and ignorant. I'd definately look into getting some other diagnostic tests done. With my 2nd I had secondary infertility and had a simple blood test done to see if I was ovulating. If that had've shown I wasn't, then I would've had the relevant treatment.

hi i agree that you should see a fertility specialist, if your doctor won't refer you too one than you should get a second opinion.

i am not obese but i my husband had lazy sperm( low count) and after year a year of trying my sister made me take the steps to get to the fertility clinic and know i have one beautiful three year old son and one on the way.

Good luck:)

Just saying you can't get pregnant because you're overweight is a cop-out. Weight affects your hormones which affects your fertility but it's far from the only reason why you might be having trouble, and you should at least have a hormone panel done.

I had a very irregular cycle and after a few simple bloodtests the doctor said I wasn't ovulating... so I had to consider myself infertile for many years. But I didn't have to lose very much weight to kick my body into gear. I think exercising regularly played a big part - as soon as my weight started to drop a little and I got a bit fitter (okay, less totally UNfit) my cycle started up like clockwork, and it's a pendulum-steady 28 days now, even though I'm still 200 pounds.

Please get evaluated for PCOS.  You may be a good candidate for Metformin/Glucophage meds that may help address the issue.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their responses. They were all really helpful. I went to another doctor. He did alot of test, and he told me that my weight has nothing to do with me getting pregnant. he told me to relax that i've been really stressed that why i didn't get my period for 3 months. Last month on january i got my period. Im so happy. Hopefully I could get pregnant really soon. And thanks again to everyone.

I know this is a little late, but we tried for about 4 years. I wasn't overweight and didn't have any obvious issues. The doctor told me to try a raw foods diet. This diet is more of a lifestyle, but I thought if I could get through it for 1 week, I would. I started cold turkey and did it one week, which turned into 3 months. I went on vacation, which it was difficult to be on a raw foods diet, so I didn't follow it as closely while on vacation. Turns out before we even left for vacation, that we were pregnant.

I did a true raw foods diet for the first 2-3 weeks, then I added in clean meat sources, like cooked organic beef and cooked organic chicken. Some people thrive with the true raw foods vegetarian diet, but I thrived on the raw foods diet with clean cooked meats.

A word of caution, make sure you follow a nutritionist's orders on a raw foods diet. It's important to get enough calories and nutrients.

On another note, a friend of mine wasn't able to become pregnant, and found out she was deficient in some B vitamins when she went to a naturopath. Within 2 months, she became pregnant.

The point is, it may not all be your weight, but possibly your nutrition.

In hindsight, another baby would have been difficult for us if we would have had one sooner. Even though we tried for many years, God's timing is perfect.  We thank God for the gift of our 2nd child.

I know what you mean and what your going through , I have a son who will be 5 this Thursday December , 26 2013 , my husband I got pregnant right away we were very happy . when my baby was 3 we decided that we wanted to  have another baby my son also wants to have a sibling witch I too want for him being that he is always alone. so we got started right away with trying and baby dancing as much as we could we even tried the ovulation predictor kit app on my phone where it told me the days I were to be fertile. however it was  somewhat correct with the date of my periods coming the following months , but then I started to notice that my periods where coming a few days early every month still in all im having a period so that assumes I can indeed have children witch is what the obgyn also told me I can have more kids but that my weight can be the reason y im not gettting pregnant . I just don't believe this for the simple reason I have a friend 3 times my weight ( im 240) and she just had twin boys yes twins I was so happy for her but also very jealous too. im writing this to tell you not to give up and to pray you and your husband need to pray and God will bless you on top of doing other things like trying soft cups and preseed , I have I have not used this myself but Im doing it this month it will be a first for me I will let you know my results im praying for a yes on the next test. good luck  I hope to hear back soon I don't have many ppl I can talk to about my feelings of not getting pregnant and how it makes you feel less than a woman , some ppl just don't understand that but maybe we can exchange stories and pass advice and different things to try what lol tty

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
